Very nice venue with an external seating area facing out onto a relatively quiet street. If you prefer the inside it’s got a central bar area that you can walk laps around if you should want to for some reason. Maybe you got lost? There were a handful of ales available. It was a shame that my choice the 2 O Clock Ordinary was not in the best condition and was vinegarising somewhat.

Traditional Victorian boozer and home to micro brewery Dragonfly. Really tasty beers at modest prices for the area. My go to choice for a swift pint after work or at any time actually.

Although the atmosphere is nice, and the music is great, the food leaves more to be desired. We ordered burgers, and although the meat was well seasoned and a nice medium rare, the bread was stale. Unfortunately our burgers turned into fork and knife patties because the bun crumbled away and just wasn’t worth eating. Our aloof server asked how the food was, but could care less about our answer.

Popped in for pub quiz, dinner and a beer on Tuesday night, new Dragonfly Brewery Early Doors lager very good even though I’m not much of a beer drinker. Mellow mixed crowd, food lovely and everything one would want in a local. Tried the Spurstowe down the street, too noisy, crowded and impersonal.

The Prince George is a wonderful pub. Yes it is populated by trendy types, but it doesnt cater for them at the expense of alienating other pub goers. They have a better range of ales on tap with the prices average for London. The décor is mostly from the 70s, which is a lovely break from loud contemporary bar style décor! They now serve food, which i was sceptical of at first. However, after having an exceptional roast dinner there on Sunday I was very impressed. It was the best roast in the area, surpassing recent ones I’ve had at The Pub on the Park

I’ve come full circle in 7 years. Last night I was back in here and realised this pub is marvellous! When the Spurstowe is crowded to the rafters and the arthur is too full of diners, it’s easy to get a seat here. They have a pool table, decent selection of beer and bar snacks(of the peanuts and crisps variety, no wasabi peas), a pub quiz on a Monday that doesn’t dominate the pub, different sections that stop the noise becoming unbearable, a small beer garden on a quiet Dalston lane for people watching and large tables. Come here for a drink, if you want a meal… sod off… this place isn’t for you.

A great pub. The place itself is very traditional with its layout and bar with it being snuggled down a side street. It’s the people that make this place. Almost everyone seemed to be 25 – 35. You do get a lot of trendies in here, what with it being Dalston and all, but everyone was relaxed and having a great night. I’d love to go back.

I will summarise before I start — Stupidly expensive hideously pretentious venue. To make matters worse the landlord /lady are like something out of a B rate horror film. In its favour I have to say that it has one of the best jukebox music selections that I have ever come across in a pub. But if you want good music then get a few cans in and stay at home and listen to your own music that way you will not get ripped off or have your intelligence insulted in. The Prince George.

I only have one problem with The Prince George, or just ‘The George’ as it is known. The problem is that I always get lost trying to find it, and even more unfortunate is the fact that I get lost on the way home after a couple of Leffe’s. Considering that is my only problem with the place, it is pretty obvious that I really like it. Situated in a lovely area on the back streets of Dalston, The George is a cosy pub that attracts a rather large crowd most days, especially in summer. The juke box is great, and as I recently discovered there is a pool table in the back room. My favourite beer on tap is Leffe, but be warned, it is quite strong. Although it may not be of interest to many people, the crisp selection is really good. I recommend the beetroot flavour, amazing. The crowd is quite trendy, and a pattern seems to emerge. That is, Broadway Market by day, The George by night. Not a bad way to spend the day I guess.

Back in the day, before the relaxation of licencing laws, the Prince George was one of the few pubs where you were guaranteed a late drink(when all pubs closed at 11pm). On a Friday night, the«lock-in» lasted til 2am on average. Pity the person who made the mistake of popping outside though, as the door was genuinely locked. But of course, you could smoke inside in those days. And the jukebox played vinyl only, with nothing more recent than 1975. Nowadays, the George is still cool. I went there recently, just to see if it had changed. It hadn’t. The clientele(and staff) are still relaxed. The jukebox is still cool(despite being somewhat updated). And the beers are still varied enough for most tastes.

The George is a great pub on the edge of Dalston, walking distance to London Fields. Always a good atmosphere, and usually packed full of people so it can be a challenge to find yourself a table, particularly during the weekend. In the summer people spill out into the beer garden, plenty of picnic benches, and they’ve even put out a few heaters for the smokers benefit during the colder autumn months. Inside feels deceptively small & cosy, rickety wooden tables, chairs and stools fill the rooms. It’s always refreshing to find a real pub instead of the typical London bar. They have a decent selection of bottle & draught beer, ale and plenty of good wine by the glass, starting at £3.50. It seems to attract an eclectic mix of people, mostly an older, fashionable Hackney crowd. But I always like the vibe, and the layout of the pub has a more intimate feel, you can hide around a corner with your friends if that’s what you feel like. Check out the free jukebox, stick on a bit of Dolly Parton and settle down in a corner with a good bottle of wine. Its got to be one of the best pubs in the area.

One word. SmokeyNo actually two words; ridiculously smokey and thats saying something from an person who really doesn’t mind people who smoke — but when you are literally suffocated out INTHEGARDEN at the front — thats smokey. I know I am getting old when I say the place is rammed full of young hip east end crowd, and that you feel totally out of place. The Bar staff look at you like you should know who they are and drinks are pricey — £3.40 for a Guinness. Blimey.

A great ‘hidden’ pub in Dalston that I continue to return to despite moving away from the area. The prices are a bit steep, but the décor, good service, friendly crowd and great jukebox more than makes up for it. They don’t serve food, so avoid if you’re looking for something more substantial than bar snacks with your pint.
