Of all the street food places in Shoreditch, I think Pump is my favourite. It’s a little quieter and more intimate than say Dinerama, great for a date or just hanging out with friends. It’s not too loud so you can actually have a conversation. The food selection is really varied and interesting, with international cuisines including Mexican, Brazilian, Argentinian, Italian… My favourites though are the Asian stands — Makimayo and Nosteagia. I have reviewed Nosteagia separately so won’t go into too much detail, but will say that the hot bowls are reasonably priced, delicious and substantial and the bubble waffles are to die for. My other favourite is the ‘popcorn chicken’ from Makimayo. This isn’t how you’d imagine popcorn chicken, it’s huge chunks of panko breaded chicken breast in your choice of sauce — the Szechuan style Gangnam is justifiably the most popular. They have a decent number of stalls catering to vegan as well. I like the layout of Pump, and having been an old petroleum station it’s an interesting space. Gets a bit chilly though — there are fire pits but I’ve never seen them used! Oh and the bathrooms are inside Boneyard, just inside the kitchen and not signposted at all! No alcohol is sold on site but you can bring your own, which isn’t a bad thing.

The more food markets, better. I love street food but because it’s outdoors without enclosed areas, I’m not sure if it’ll be so good as it’s so cold these days. However there’s quite a bit of sitting space and range of foods to eat. Nosteagia — Serving eggettes/HK waffles with various toppings. Lacking a bit of crispiness on the outside and a little something(can’t quite pinpoint it), still not as good as Hong Kong ones but a good attempt. Makimayo — Fried Chicken with various sauces. I got the spicy mayo which was nice but as it’s just a sauce on top only the top pieces have sauce. Los Pibes — Sweet Potato Fries and Chorizo — Nice and crispy fries. Yum yum yum.

Pump is a street food market in Shoreditch serving all kinds of yummy foods and treats. Today I had the bubble waffles at Nosteagia and it was great. The waffle was great, they had a small menu with different fillings and garnishes and I had mine with Nutella, cookies and cream. It tasted a bit like heaven but I could have wished for more filling. I had a quick look around at the other places, I was offered Swedish candy by a nice woman who just opened up her Swedish candy store at Pump today! But generally the staff working seemed bored, probably because it was a quiet Wednesday. I am very happy about the variety of foods you can find and the price, it makes the food absolutely worth the money. The only thing I was missing is a place to sit and eat. Since it was a quiet Wednesday it was all fine, but I am not exactly planning on going as a group on a late night as I believe it would be hard to find a place to sit. Overall I got a good impression of Pump.

Went to eat at Essential Vegan as I’d been following them on Instagram for months and their food looked great! The burgers were quite nice and it was great to have all the sauces PLUS home made vegan cheese! The bread was a bit dry but was ok to eat with all the sauces. The rosemary fries were nice and crispy but didn’t taste too much of rosemary… The cheesecake was ok, I’d imagined it a lot smoother and the base less soft. If go back for the burger and fries though, quite tasty! The Pump food market space itself is quite nice, not as large as other markets which is a big plus in my book! Nice decoration and atmosphere, will definitely go back :)

Aw, thank god they finally did something with this space. It was a gas station and then it was a nothing, for a long long time. And then for a while they were building something, and it turns out that something was a constant street market. And it is delicious. Love the street food scene in London, and this is a great example of it. They’ve got your normal burger joints, BBQ, chicken, etc but then they have fantastic bits of culinary cuisine from all over the world: Japanese hot dogs! Argentinean steak sandwiches! Tacos! Tacos! Tacos! Also, tacos. There are tables to sit in, lots of different choices and friendly people who work at them. Need a quick bite, this is a good spot to be.
