These fish and chips are a *revelation*. Absolutely delicious and unfaultable! My battered haddock was deliciously crisp on the outside while melty and flaky inside. Meanwhile, the chips were perfect — very fluffy with a good scattering of extra crispy ones to complement. I mean, fish and chips is already one of the best meals — but this was exceptional. Why on earth isn’t it a five star then? Firstly, I guess that it’s not a particularly exciting interior — you could sit there but it’s very plain and quite stark. I know it’s mainly a takeaway but you can definitely step up the décor. And secondly, they have poor mayonnaise game. 10p for a sachet, which is a tiny one, and only cheap stuff, nothing particularly tasty. I think sauces should either be included if they’re sachets or should be a proper amount of a decent type! But seriously, so delicious. Glad I have a friend in the area who I can visit…

QUALITY Fish & Chips spot in Putney, a southwest London suburb. Located in close walking distance to the Putney Riverbanks, the chaps runnin’ the show were actually quite friendly compared to our other eating adventures in London. Despite what it’s name implies, the menu is more than just fish & chips, BUT us Yankees, we’re INENGLAND!!! No way I’m chowing down on anything else here! That being said, we ordered a few things… *LARGECOD: HOLEYMOLEY! This large piece could feed Godzilla, it was so huge!!! Biggest chunk of fish I’ve ever been served anywhere. I was NOT expecting that! Batter was still crisp even after a 10 min. walk. The paper wrapping was fairly greased up, but the fish itself didn’t taste oily at all. That’s some magical paper! Fish was flaky and moist. Better than what I recalled from my previous British jaunts. *LARGEHADDOCK: Righto! Just as IMPRESSIVE as the large cod in size. Wifey could not tell the difference in taste between cod & haddock, but I was kinda partial to haddock, as was my little man. *LARGECHIPS: Just like the impressively large fish cuts, this serving of potato wedges was more than enough to feed my family and, THENSOME! This was probably the most French fries we’ve ever been served, and pretty tasty for English chips :) *KID’S FISHFINGERS: No gargantuan serving here, thankfully. Comes with 3 kid sized pieces that my young squires readily enjoyed. Comes with chips, too. For this Yankee family’s first foray into the classic English Fish & Chips, Putney Pier offered impressive visuals and tasty morsels. Don’t forget to ask for ketchup AND tartare sauce. These aren’t automatically added to your take away bag, and they don’t offer them freely. Easy recommendation.

I have always thought that Putney Riverbank was always missing a fish and chips shop and now I’ve found it just a few streets away. Portion sizes are good at this lovely little take-away and not as oily or greasy as I’ve had in the past. You can also purchase pickles, eggs, saveloys and other common fish and chip shop staples. Prices are also reasonable and everything I had was very tasty. This is just as fish and chips should be. Although off the beaten track this is a fantastic addition that makes any stroll along the Putney Thames Riverpath complete.
