Delicious inexpensive Vietnamese. Close to great bars and Shoreditch. Its not byo but really delicious food!

Came here for lunch, but have been here for dinner. Its fairly quiet here, and the food is good, fresh and portion size is decent. Went for the usual crispy fried squid, steam rolls and vermecilli with grilled pork and spring roll. Service was quick and food came out quick. To be honest there are not many bad Vietnamese restaurant in Kingsland road when you go for these type of dishes, and they are and should be fresh and simple. I would come here again.

Que Viet is located in the ‘Vietnamese street’ Kingsland Road and we choose this restaurant, because it is recommended by Unilocalers. Que Viet serves North Vietnamese food, which is less spicy. Although my father is from the North, I grew up with South Vietnamese food. My mother from the South told my whole life that her food is the best. I had not high expectations about this restaurant. But many Vietnamese people go to this restaurant so it must be good, right? Forget the warm Vietnamese welcome. The staff is not unfriendly but a bit cold… they do what they have to do, that’s it. We started with free prawncrackers and decided to order Phở soup. The soup was huge and not bad, but I missed many vegetables and peppers in my soup. And no chilisaus? I know the food from the North is less spicy but even my dad always takes chilisaus! After request we got a good portion of chilisaus. For £7.50 it was not bad but I don’t think I will take my parents to this place. Before the arrival my boyfriend preferred Vietgrill… next time we will try that place.

I booked a table for 6.30pm last Saturday and it was nice and quiet around that time, I probably didn’t need to book it. We spent the next hour catching up with relatives and the restaurant had no qualms about that. When we ordered our food our server was very helpful and explained one of the dishes we were unsure of. The food took around 15−20mins, very quick! I ordered the spring rolls and beef which was a simple and tasty dish, but I wouldn’t have minded having more on my plate. I also tried my mums phở and was pretty decent. If you’re looking for a quiet meal go earlier, because once it’s full in the evening you find yourself having to raise your voices over one another. Que Viet was cheap and cheerful, I would go back. :)

Avoid if you don’t like waiting an hour or more for your mains, and subsequently getting charged for the drinks that were supposed to be complementary due to said wait. Real shame too, as the spring rolls came quickly and tasted good. We were there for 1,5 hours and left hungry as the spring rolls was all the food they decided to serve us that evening. Moreover, when after an hour of waiting for our 3 mains we asked to get our food to go(as we were fed up waiting and figured surely our food would at least be ready by now) we were given a bill for our drinks and starter. After enquiring further, we were unceremoniously told the food would not be arriving. Since we were now about to lose reservations for cocktails, we paid and left, but needless to say: customer service, zero points. Thankfully, there’s a great kebab shop just down the road.

Of the Vietnamese restaurants on Kingsland Road, I’d probably rate Que Viet third best after Viet Grill and Song Que. The BBQ pork with spring rolls and vermicelli is particularly good here. The phở is also pretty good, although not quite up to the beefy stock that can be had at Song Que. It’s good value for money, especially as they occasionally do lunch deals. Service is normally okay, but not amazing.

Everything we had was superb and the service was excellent! The Phở is really fantastic. All of the food was really tasty with some unique dishes and excellent flavor. The Phở was so huge I wish I could have eaten all of it, but I did not have the room. It was quite busy, even close to the end of the night. Highly recommend. Worth a visit!

A bit disappointed after all the good reviews. The cha ca fish appetizer was very tasty, but we ordered the lemongrass beef and there was no hint of lemongrass in the dish. It tasted fine, nothing special, but it also came out first, with the rice following 4 or 5 minutes later, by which time the beef had cooled down. The Hanoi pork was great, well spiced and well cooked. The worst part of the experience was the bad service. The waiter was rude, and he ignored us when we wanted to pay because he and the rest of the staff were eating. It is also one of the more expensive Vietnamese restaurants on the street, and the value for money wasn’t worth it. Two of three dishes were very nice, but with the bad service and higher than average prices, we wouldn’t go back.

Explosively fresh flavor in the spring rolls. Most spring rolls, if you think about it are a) fun to eat, b) you taste the dipping sauce. The veggies in Que viet’s spring rolls are screaming flavor. It’s winter here but I just tasted SPRING. Phở is fantastic. There’s something in the broth that lightens the heaviness. So you get the heartiness of long-cooked beef broth but then there’s this twist in it that lightens the palate. Transporting.

One of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants on Kingsland road. The prices are great. The food is awesome. And the service is very friendly. There are some dishes and ingredients that I had never seen on a Vietnamese menu before, like okra and goat, so we tried them out! The flavors were wonderful!

My favourite of the Kingsland Rd vietnamese restaurants. Lovely crispy spring rolls are great as a starter, but my favourite dish has to be the monkfish curry. Very reasonably priced as well. My only complaint is that service can be a bit patchy on Saturday nights, but I guess it’s to be expected when the place is packed! Much nicer to go on a Sat or Sun lunchtime.

I absolutely love this establishment. The food is fantastic and at a very reasonable price. I highly reccomend the beef in bettle leaf starter, summer rolls with prawns and goat meat dishes. The hanoi grilled pork is the best I’ve ever tasted. This place is a great place to go before hitting the bars in Shoreditch.

This is the fourth Vietnamese restaurant that I’ve tried on Kingsland Road. I came here based on the Unilocal reviews which it has received. I ordered the Hanoi grilled pork with spring rolls meal. I had absolutely no complaints about the food; the quality was on par with all of the other restaurants that I’ve tried on Kingsland. At this point I will be more critical about the other aspects of the restaurants as there are about ten other restaurants to choose from in the area. First, there was only one other table occupied in a fair sized restaurant which isn’t always a good sign. Second, despite there being only other occupied table, there was only one person waiting both tables and it took him quiet some time to get my initial order, and he never came with the bill(I went up to the bar to pay). Third, the meal was about £2 more than most of the other places I have eaten at in the area. Lastly, the Hanoi style dish was served on a plate and did not come with an extra bowl, so finishing off the dish was rather challenging. Otherwise, it was a satisfactory experience despite how critical this review is.

You are in a lovely classy restaurant that serves tasty modern Vietnamese food and where: * The service is friendly and efficient * You can relax and take your time * It is comfortably lit and furnished * The menu is an adventurous fusion * The food and alcohol is priced to match Yet you are in the Vietnamese quarter in Kingsland Road Shoredich and are wondering about gentrification, authenticity and prices — no it’s not that cheap, trad or quick and you can’t get your student mates to bring their own booze. Just judge it on its own merits! Four stars? On your second visit try the goat grill with a side order of greens and like me judge it again: Five!

Much swankier interior than some of the other places on Kingsland Road(I’m looking at you, Mien Tay) which initially made me suspicious, but hey, gotta catch ‘em all. It was a rather heaving Saturday evening, but we were seated and ordered with no problems — the waiting staff are super friendly too. I enjoyed my banh xeo crispy pancake starter — not the best I’ve ever had, but still tasty. On the waiter’s recommendation, I got the garlic beef phở for my main course. Whilst not so far removed from a regular phở, it’s a different experience: it’s served in the Hanoi style(without the garnishes) and, true to its name, is very garlicky. Surprise surprise. However, the garlic flavour isn’t so strong that it drowns out the other flavours, and the soup base is really tasty(I’m a soup completionist when it comes to these sorts of things, but finishing this one was easy). Reasonable price, great service, nice interior, friendly staff? Can’t fault this place — definitely coming back here again.

I luv all of the Vietnamese restaurants on Kingsland road! Authentic, tasty, inexpensive and fast. Most of them allow BYO too. I think I must eat here almost 8 times a month! Chilli Salt squid is lurvley, as is most dishes! Yummo!

Let me preface this review by saying that the waitstaff were apologetic and let us leave with no bill. For that I want to thank Que Viet as we really had a terrible experience there on an early Sat evening after driving cross town in search of wonderful phở. Letting us leave for free after our starter meant we could still afford to get some good phở down the road. So what went wrong? Well, for us it seemed everything. Other diners seemed to be having a good time so perhaps we were unlucky. It took almost half an hour for our starter of snails to come and it was nothing like we expected, just being a little bit of meat on lemongrass stalks. After another 20 mins the rare beef phở and garlic beef phở arrived. Just the bowls, some lime slices and chilli. No hoisin sauce, no herbs, no beansprouts. The broths tasted simply of beef stock — no hint of star anise or aroma of cinnamon — and the meet cuttings were bland, no tripe or tendon to be seen. I felt let down, so rather than tucking in, I asked for the usual accompanying garnishes to be brought so I could spice things up but I was told that actually this was Hanoi-style and they didn’t do it Saigon-style which was what I wanted(wikipedia says they have a point). Kindly, they humoured our requests and out came some beansprouts and mint, but really we just wanted to leave. The lack of taste to the broth would’ve been the killer, until we noticed that sitting among the beansprouts they’d just brought out was a chunk of raw white fish. Yikes! As we left we were told that they were having problems in the kitchen that day. Very true!

Fancy schmancy vietnamese place. Very cozy and clean. Softshell crab was good. Banh xeo was a little overcooked. The lau(seafood, vegetable, beef shared soup) wasn’t traditional as I’ve typically had it, but it was still pretty good.

We’ve been here several times for big pre going out dinner and the waiters are always patient the food is always good and at the end of the night the bill is always reasonable no matter how much we have drunk. this is the place i first sampled goat curry– mmmmmm and where we discuss where they got their king prawns from coz they are huge! morning glory is always good for a laugh, but when it comes, nothing is left within minutes. a bit further away than the usual by about 2 minutes, but well worth it!
