Tha, what to say about Rhubarb — it’s a restaurant at an airport behind customs. Most people are in a hurry and they understand that. Food is reasonable and so are the prices. Staff is quick and friendly Eventhough — not more than 3 stars — if I would have options I probably try something else, but is you have one hour to wait for boarding this is a decent place to go. If they serve the tomato soup as Day soup — you might want to check if it is spicey…

Nope nope nope nope nope. The only redeeming factor was that the waiting staff were friendly but I will not return. Inefficient to the extreme which is unforgivable in an airport. 17 pounds for eggs royale, a coffee and a juice. Looked cute on the outside so I thought I’d give it a shot. I was catching a morning flight and needed breakfast. I had a bit of time to kill so thought I’d have time for a sit down breakfast with some nice coffee and eggs to get me set up for the day. I’d had a lovely morning and was in a great, optimistic mood. Coffee — took 10 minutes to arrive after ordering and was awful Food — Over 35 minutes to come out after ordering. At an airport. With no prior warning to this. Another lady’s granola took 40 minutes. She had already given up by the time it arrived. Granola. 40 minute wait. What?! The eggs were overdone and the hollandaise was meh. The salmon was nice but at this point my coffee was long gone and nobody had come over to ask if I wanted any more so I was cranky. Other people around me were also visibly baffled. No apologies, no explanations. About 20 minutes after I had ordered and my panic levels were starting to rise the staff started telling new potential customers that the wait would be 10 or 15 minutes. The weird thing was the place had LOADS of empty seats. Wish I’d gone to Pret. TL;DR: Expensive, meh, incredibly slow.

AOK for an airport breakfast, I say! I always seem to find myself with ample time upon arrival at LCY — probably because I always budget so many hours for airport travel, sercurity, etc and LCY is amazing fast in all facets. When allowed, I do like a sit down meal before a flight, long or short, so I was quite pleased to find Rhubarb just past security and close to the gates(let’s be fair, EVERYTHING is close to the gates at City). Within 3 minutes I had an eggs royale with smoked salmon, sparkling water & cappuccino in front of me. Not bad, Rhubarb! Not bad at all. Probably faster than Pret, even! The food was fine, nothing spectacular but it was a good start to my day, which had begun at 345am and was in need of some serious fuel.

like everything else in LCY, this place is beautifully bedecked, nicely lit and expensive. …but a mans gotta eat so I set myself up at a table and ordered the pulled pork sandwich with fries and a coke(I would have killed for a pint but this was a work trip and I was driving later!). The pork, when it(finally) arrived was fairly horrible, served on a fairly horrible(and burnt) bun. My coke continued to not arrive and I had to ask for it twice. Overall, not a great experience and not somewhere I’d be killing myself to get back to any time soon.
