Alert! If you’re reading this before security(and you’re hungry), turn around and go buy food from one of the places downstairs by the check-in desks. Better yet, pick something up before you get to the airport at all. If you do have the misfortune of needing a feed once through security though I’m afraid you’ve got two main choices — get ripped off at Panopolis, or get massively ripped off with the posher looking £30-a-main-course sit-down restaurant. It’s a glorified Pret, just with a better selection of desserts and everything a couple of quid more expensive. A cheese and salad sandwich, crisps and a mineral water all tasted fine but came to a ridiculous over £8. The guy at the till makes no effort to offer you a bag either let alone a hello. The best thing about the place is its name(and I do enjoy saying it for some reason). I only have myself to blame for falling into such a food trap though — hopefully someone else can learn from my mistake!

Panopolis: It’s not like TERRIBLE… until you consider how ridiculously overpriced the food and drinks are, even for an airport. My colleague and I each had something to eat, fruit, a drink and some nuts and cookies and it was about 22 quid. Like, what?! Pro-tip for food at LCY: grab your snacks and such at Pret(ground floor near check-in) BEFORE heading up to first floor to pass through security. Once you go through security you might be stuck with Panopolis, and it’s just really really average and extremely overpriced. Even for London. Even at an airport. It’s worse than most. I very rarely recommend«GOTOPRET» but in this case, it’s the best choice for a quick meal on the go. Just remember not to get drinks there(like I did recently) as you will then be passing through security moments later and have to chuck it. There are plenty of places to grab a soda or water after security, including WH Smith, etc. Bottom line: No to Panopolis.

Airports are never a shining example of good food at good prices, but blimey, Panopolis takes the biscuit! Salmon bagel and small fruit juice for an eye watering £9, made worse by the bagel being almost inedibly stale. What a waste of money for bad food — avoid.

Panapolis is one of the cafes at London City Airport and it is most likely the one to avoid. I tried it as I just wanted a cup of coffee and some breakfast in the 10 minutes before my flight was due to board. The yogurt was not bad and the sandwiches seemed decent as well but the coffee was horrible — the staff are apparently not at all trained to make any espresso based beverages. The espresso was really pulled too fast — I counted something like 10 – 12 seconds and the guy behind the counter had no clue when I asked him about it. He also was about to resteam already used milk so asked him to it with fresh milk. Did not really help since he anyway burned it and then added chocolate on top of it without asking me about it. Will next time go elsewhere for breakfast.
