The Royal Exchange is a stone’s throw from the office, so it’s a handy watering hole for a Wednesday evening. The staff are very friendly and as others have mentioned, the clientele and furnishings have the vibe of a local pub — a rarity in such a central London location. The food is delicious — one of my party finally succumbed to the bangers and mash when the smell from the kitchen became too enticing! Drinks are on the pricey side even for London — averaging £5 for a pint — but not a bad pub to swing by.

After a disastrous start around the corner at a nearby pub, we found the Royal Exchange. The owner was really nice and the clientele was interesting. It was a little bright, but at least it was clean and had some fun tunes on the jukebox.

The is an exceptional and one of the most friendly pubs i have found in London. It is more like a local than your average London public house. I went in on one of my quick visits to the capitol and was pleasantly surprised at first glances i thought this was probably a bad choice as outside was a big crowd of Chelsea supporters as Chelsea was playing in the F.A. Cup Final, but ones inside my thoughts changed. The pub was full of locals no football instead they were watching horse racing on the big screen TV. I ordered a point of breakspear’s from there excellent choice of three real ale’s available this was served chilled as a good beer should be served. As i was drinking a local ordered a salted beef sandwich which looked very nice freshly cooked salted beef carved behind the bar in thick cut fresh bread and lashings of mustard cut into four portions, as the customer was served he said that he only could manage a quarter and the remaining three helping were offered to myself and others around the bar. This is a small pub slightly of the beaten track of the normal tourist trade but one i would recommend to anyone. And if that sandwich was anything to go by i guess the meals they serve would be great too.
