My go-to date spot in east London for a glass(or two) of wine. Wonderful ambience and the the servers are extremely helpful. The wine list can be overwhelming, but my server provided a few suggestions and my date and I loved the bottle we ordered! As other reviewers have stated, the nibbles do seem a bit pricey, but were well worth it. We were pleasantly surprised with the flavor of the food items we ordered. Do make sure to get reservations as the venue does fill up easily during the evenings. The tables running across from the bar are a bit cramped, but I was luckily seated at a table in the back which I would recommend if you don’t want to be within earshot of other tables. Summary: the best wine-bar in east London and among the best in the entire city. Bring a date, but be sure to call to book a table!

astoundingly accurate and delicious Japanese flavors on the menu the night I visited. found the cocktails to be a bit too sugary — not much alcohol, and the more interesting, uncommon ingredients were covered up by the old standards. I would give them 5 stars, but the décor is obnoxiously persistent.

Fabulous wine bar, close to the Columbia Flower Market. I love the atmosphere here, and the wine selection(try the St. Aubin White Burgundy). Very knowledgable bartenders. Great munchies(try the grilled cheese). I would definitely return!

Located in trendy East London, Sager + Wilde is a small, cozy wine bar with a great selection of excellent wines, small plates of delicious food and friendly, knowledgable staff. It’s difficult to find a finer place for a glass of wine, or two. I just noticed that I never wrote a review for Sager + Wilde, possibly the best wine bar in London. It’s a small place, and tends to be busy. If you’re lucky, you might still spontaneously get a spot at the bar. The interior is beautifully crafted and unusual. The muted lighting in the evening creates an intimate atmosphere and makes this the perfect place to impress a wine-loving date. Or just to enjoy a bottle with friends. Last time I was in the area, I ended up at Sager + Wilde twice, first before a gig for something by the glass, and then after the gig with two friends. Selecting wines for people with different tastes can be a challenge, but believe me, you can trust the folks at Sager + Wilde. The lovely girl from behind the bar listened to our somewhat conflicting preferences and recommended a Forstmeister Geltz Zilliken Saarburger Rausch Riesling Spätlese from 1999. Admittedly, not the cheapest bottle on the list. But undoubtedly one of the best, and we enjoyed every sip of the last one they had in stock at the time. It was a beautiful and very balanced wine, sweet, but not too sweet, minerals, a great smell, it had aged so well — most importantly, all three of us without a blank agreed that this was one of the best wines we ever drank. It’s unique opportunities like this, that make the wine bar so appealing, a place you cannot miss. One of the nice things about Sager + Wilde is that you get also intriguing, carefully selected wines by the glass. In combination with specials and regular changes, the offering is kick-ass — you can always try something new and exciting. They have very good bread and of course you can have a tasty cheese with it, or also choose one of the small plates. Whatever you get, I’m sure you won’t regret. It is hard to find anything about Sager + Wilde that I do not like. It could be pretty busy, so it might be a challenge to get a table. Once you secured a spot, just enjoy your time there. And I should go back more often to check out more of their fare…

This place is incredible. *Excellent* red wines, great service, and that grilled cheddar cheese… holy-god-amazing. I seriously cannot wait to go back to this place. Best wine bar I’ve been to in a while! Make sure to book ahead. It’s totally worth it.

Came here after dinner for a glass of wine and loved it. Thought the service was really friendly and it was fun having a guess at what I was drinking. Great atmosphere, reasonably priced wine and some cheese to go nibble on. Would like to go back and try their food next time.

Without doubt my favourite bar since it opened. Always an interesting set of wines by the glass — I don’t tend to drift to the full wine list — and well made snacks(cheese toasties, salad, cheese, charcuterie etc) in a creatively designed space. Service always friendly and whilst maybe a notch down on where it was in the early days still a strength. A place we’ve been back to again and again — something I’m sure will continue whilst it remains open.

This place is pretty fabulous. Book ahead. Hard to do a stop-in on a weekend I’d imagine. And don’t come expecting a meal, but you can enjoy snacks including a very good toasted cheese sandwich. But expect a great atmosphere, amazing wines(although most start at 40GBP a bottle so bring your American Express card) a knowledgeable and friendly staff(although they are quite busy). A bit out of the way, but worth the trek.

I love half of Sager and Wilde. I love the concept and most of the staff are really excellent(especially the girls behind the bar). The wine list is great and if you don’t know where to start all the staff know the wine list back to front so they will be able to help you. And the wine list changes regularly so no chance of getting bored. Aesthetically this place rocks and the whole inside of the bar is really inviting and easy to sit solo at the bar. Even better for a date. I love how the windows fog up its super cozy and easy to block the outside out. Great lighting too(very moody… refer to date comment). Don’t love the food offerings and 6.50 for a toasted cheese sandwich I think is a little steep. My first and last meal there wasn’t so good(actually inedible) but they were happy to send it back and not charge me. Worth a visit after dinner for some interesting wines.

A little bit of a walk from the overground stations, this cute little bar is quite visible from the street with its white, minimalist exterior and black logo. Once you go inside though, the warm woods and tight seating is very intimate. Great place for a date or with a few people. It’s known for its wine list, so we got a few glasses paired with some dishes. Maybe they can recommend which food goes with what wine, because as a wine amateur I had no clue what to order with what. But the staff are very nice. Lovely place.

I love, love, loved Sager + Wilde. I’ve passed it so many times on the bus and have been meaning to stop in. Knowing that they’ve also just launched Mission in Bethnal Green(and having swooned over their Instagram feed) I knew I needed to plan a visit soon. Sunday night was that time. We were on the bus; we both said«we really must go there some time»; the bus was stopping; we were jumping off the bus and running to the open door of Sager + Wilde. The décor is amazing– there’s an unmistakable San Francisco vibe to it(apparently the owners used to live there– it shows). It’s all exposed brickwork, industrial lighting and an utterly brilliant bar all lit by shadowy candlelight. We picked a corner and sat down. We were immediately offered water(still or sparkling– both free) and asked if we’d like to be talked through the winelist(we did!) The lovely waitress was friendly and knowledgeable and soon helped us pick out a couple of brilliant reds. The kitchen was closed(which was fine, we’d already eaten) but we were told we could have sandwiches if hungry. We’ll need to come back to sample some of the small plates as they all sounded yummy, and the perfect match for the small, but perfectly formed wine list. Prices aren’t cheap, but the wine is interesting, the surroundings lovely and the service absolutely brilliant. We can’t wait for our next visit!

Small, intimate and with a friendly setting, Sager & Wilde is Passionate and knowledgable about their products. The waitress had the unique skill of painting a picture of the expectation of the wine with her vocabulary. She described the Le Maceration Blanc ‘L10’ Le Soula(£8.50) as having an orange marmalade flavour which was spot on. From an international perspective I thought the wine price, which is perceived to be pricer by local standard is a step up from the current local offerings in quality. One could argue that the local wines are expensive because the quality is poor and prices are inflated. The wine is different and researched, you won’t be disappointed. The Brut J Lassalle champagne by the glass was £8.50 and was the best value by quality and price as we’ve been paying £12.50 for generic champagne everywhere else. The food is tapas but it insubstantial. It is best to visit pre or post dinner or if you’re not hungry. We stupidly came for dinner and drinks and despite the cheese and charcuterie board shared among three, we will still a bit peckish. Nevertheless, still high quality food. Quality wine, food and service, this is it!

This place is wonderful. Great wine, nibbles and décor accompanied by almost perfect service(they did forget my wine). The idea is that all the wines are drinkable by the glass or by the bottle. Even the pricey ones — BEWARE the bill could get very large, very quickly if you start splashing out on the £14 a glass wines as some of my co-drinkers decided to do(we split the bill and I ended up paying £25 more than what I’d drunk because of my companions expensive tastes — needless to say I made sure that at dinner afterwards I had the most expensive thing on the menu and dessert when noone else did to make up for it). It was busy without being packed on a Saturday night and I’d happily go back again. The cured meats were tasty and we also had the nduja on toast(I wanted grilled cheese but thought nduja was a fancy cheese, turns out it’s spreadable spicy sausage — still nice but not grilled cheese). Better go back for that grilled cheese then.

‘I don’t know about paying 7.50 for a glass of wine…’ ‘But it’s from 1997, what were you doing in 1997?‘ Probably not running a vineyard, so fair enough. I’d heard about Sager and Wilde enough to know that when it was suggested we go there for a drink, I jumped at the chance. It was still quiet enough on a post-Columbia Road Sunday to get a seat at the bar. The bearded bartender(ahem OWNER) served us up a couple of Riojas and we got down to the business of drinking them. This place is great, I love the ‘street-grate’ glass bar and the extremely laid-back Swedish vibe. The namesake Sager and Wilde happen to be the owners, a couple, who are clearly committed to quality and keeping it authentic. They talked about diversifying and opening another place but acknowledged that they needed to maintain a certain standard and that nowhere else could bear the same name. I appreciate this attitude to business. My companion wasn’t keen on paying 7 pounds for a toasted cheese sandwich, but it smelled amazing and seem on par with the prices round Hackney, and I so wanted one. I’ll come back to this bar, but for a bottle this time.

A relatively small, slightly cramped wine bar with an impressive — though pricey — bottle range and a small — and pricey! — selection of eats. The staff was quite friendly and attentive, so top marks there. And I love the aesthetics of this place. With only one bottle option for red or white under 30 quid, this is not a spot for the penny-pinchers. Also, this place is laughably incongruous with its neighbouring businesses.

There’s definitely a market for wine bars down Hackney Road, even though I’m a little partial as it’s on my walk home, it’s nice to be able to do something easty that isn’t a pub and isn’t ground zero Hoxton. Staff are lovely and if you follow them on instagram, you’ll get a sneak peek at what’s new or what they’re drinking. Sometimes it isn’t so easy getting a table, but if you happen to take a stroll over after the flower market closes on a Sunday, you’ll still be the first person in so stake your space out and settle in. There’s bits on the menu and endless sparkling water. If you follow my reviews, you know how this hugs my insides. Stop in, unless it’s busy and I can’t get a table, then go home!

very very impressed with this spot, they’ve done very well and i enjoyed my evening here. 2 bottles of wine at the bar — which is beautifully made, recommended the 2nd on the list by the pleasant waitress and it didn’t disappoint, in taste or price. charcuterie was a little light for what it was but alongside 2 splendid grilled cheese the night was made. will definitely come back.

Would you like a glass of the ’76 Bordeaux? Oui, oui. Fantastic new wine bar specializing in pricey bottles — that one can enjoy by the glass! Refined bar bites menu to match, this is a winner out of the gate. Looking to impress a date a bit off the beaten path, saddle up to a few seats at the well-appointed Sager + Wild, and you are sure to impress without breaking the bank. Service was on point, helpful with recommendations and the place was bustling with revelers. The crowd is Hackney-sophistcated, in the best way possible. Treat yourself.

Perfect, from the soft lighting to the well spaced seating. Sat down after a rather hectic week, and was soothed by level of expertise, quality and ambiance. The two wines and vermouth were divine, as was the food. This is not a place to eat a meal, but a little something to go with your drink. They do charcuterie board, cheeses, etc. Looking forward to perusing their daily changing menu in the near future.
