Delicious Italian restaurant, very expensive but worth it for the White truffle. Also, large round tables(7 – 8 people) are small which makes it very cosy. The restaurant is calm.

Stumbled in seeking refuge from the Harrods Vampires, tourists blood thirsty for sales. It was closed to prepare for dinner, but they let me have drinks at the bar. Very kind and genuine people, also do their best to accomodate. Quiet, yet not dead. I will return for dinner soon and update on food.

Visited London last week with my wife to see Eric Clapton at Royal Albert Hall to knock off one one our bucket list items. While in London we visited 25 pubs, several museums and many restaurants. We stopped by San Lorenzo’s as we heard that it had great food, was once very famous and EC visited often. While EC never stopped by while we were there, the restaurant was still fantastic and the food was very good. We visited after lunch, later in the afternoon so we had the place to our selves. Lorenzo stopped by the table and we talked for hours about his heritage, WWII days, shipping travels, history of the restaurant and more importantly his family. What a great man and great restaurant. It was my favorite in all of London. Ignore the other poor reviews and stop by this restaurant.

One of the Old School Italians that used to be the rage in 60’s/80’s London, San Lorenzo hasn’t stood the test of time as well as the others. Gossip says Lady Di frequented the restaurant in its long gone glory days. Now weekends can be crowded and weekdays a quiet hush among empty tables. The menu has a fair selection of Carne, Pesce, and Pasta; Appetizers are varied and expansive. Everything is of high quality and is prepared well. Unfortunately, It just maybe worth less than the sum of its parts. If you live close by its probably a standard, if you don’t then venture to nearby Scalini for a livelier meal.

Well I agree with some of the put downs about this place. Afterall, I was dating a rock star when I ate here the first time. My pasta was actually okay. Was it worth the amount of pounds it cost, well no but it was decent. Calamari is good. Service is impeccable and yep it is a place to be seen and most of all to be seen with someone famous. And yes I returned with the same rock star again and again and it was my fave place for espresso and Tiramisu. Excellent, but then I wasn’t paying for it. Once I stopped dating him I never went back! Too expensive. Still an interesting place to hang, see and be seen! It IS Chelsea and I may pull out the Chanel bag and stop by next time I make it to London. Next night I’ll ditch the bag and go some place cooler.

This place is funny. But an expensive, not worth the money kinda funny. It’s just so «known» by the type of people who go there regularly to be a place to see and be seen. However, the food really isn’t great at all, and a complete rip-off(which seems to be accepted common knowledge). It’s easily easily twice what it should be in price and half as good as it should be in quality, but that’s just how this place rolls. It’s still amusing if you don’t mind paying(or have someone else to do so)!

You can’t beat the 80’s jet-set style of this place. The dining rooms are decked out with retro art(the good and the bad), palm trees, outdoor patio umbrellas and endless homages to the days when cocaine was probably snorted in the loos and prostitutes forced themselves on any man in a suit(actually, both probably still happen). I heard the food wasn’t all the rave, but my monk fish main was quite good, in fact the best of the lot, I’d say. There were only four pastas on the menu which isn’t very Italian of them, but they seemed decent, though no one in my party ordered one. The wine was good, if way over priced, and the service was mostly perfect, if only they served olive oil with the bread basket(what Italian place doesn’t have olive oil!!?) Eh cuisine, cheesy/fabulous décor, and an over priced menu might lure me back, but not until I have a maserati to roll up in and some dolce & gabbanna furs to check in the coat room.

When I was just a lad and still carried a British accent, San Lorenzo was close to home and a frequent dinner venture for my divorced but not separated parents. Hmm… maybe they stopped arguing for a hot minute while dining at one of Knightsbridge’s hidden ritzy gems. Of course, at that time my dad had them special order me nothing but penne pasta with butter. My mother always reminded me where Princess Dianna’s special table was,(being that she was still alive at the time) she frequented San Lorenzo and apparently it was one of her favorite restaurants. My father is a man of ritual and therefore, we still go to San Lorenzo to this day. To start, as I usually do at Italian restaurants, I get the calamari fritti. SL sets the bar for fried calamari. I get the lamb cutlets as an entrée. While not a huge portion(maybe three-four chops) the meat is delicate and delicious. The highlight of San Lorenzo is the vegetable array appetizer that comes with different dipping sauces, one reminiscent of a peanut butter flavor. Celery and carrots with said dip is a remarkable treat for any veggiehead or for anyone who likes to snap into something healthier than a slim jim. Schnipz this review is boring! Maybe because San Lorenzo in a way is a very boring restaurant that serves premium Italian food Brits expect from a place of its caliber. The servers are usually from Italy and are right on the money. London’s ritzy places(unlike Chicago’s) are guaranteed to be worth your pennies, well pence. Actually, pounds.

San Lorenzo has been a jet set heaven for years. It has been around since the 60s and is one of the most established restaurants on Beauchamp Street. The cuisine is less than inventive and actually seems rather dull. But it is the consistency of what they offer and their approach to service that has maintained them for so long. If anything it is a place for locales of people that have some sort of a paparazzo connection. The process are high, it will be hard to find a good bottle of wine that is not super expensive, and as I said if you don’t have a star status the service can take you for a second rate costumer.
