Quite standard food and price. I had the melting salmon roll and crunchy tune roll which were recommended by a friend and cold soba with tempura. They are all rice. Quick service but staff aren’t very nice though. It was a small place so it might be better for take away so you don’t have to pay for the service charge which is ain’t worth it lol

Ordered some sushi for collection after reading some great reviews. I’m new to area and wanted to find a replacement for my fave local sushi spot. I was quite disappointed when i got home and found they had given the wrong dragon roll(a more expensive one also). Called the store and initially they did not want to replace my wrong order and implied i would gave to pay for a replacement(!!) i insisted on not paying anything and getting the roll i paid for, and returning the wrong roll if they wish. After keeping me on hold for three minutes, they agreed to send me what i ordered and take back the wrong order. Besides that, the salmon skin roll was crunchy and nice but very skimpy on the filling. The dragon roll was yummy though, decent filling and cooked well. I’m still hunting for the right store at the right price!

It’s weird that I’ve never been here, maybe because it’s a further walk from my place and I am hella lazy. But I’ll be back! The pricing is much better than some of the other places in Islington for sushi and I was pretty happy with everything we got. Except the service was slow. We got our edamame and then waited about 30 minutes for everything else. High points for the crunchy tuna roll! Massive low points for the wine selection. It was minimum £7 for the cheapest glass of 125ml wine. Sorry, but no, who do you think you are? I’m not paying that for a small glass of probably bad wine.

There were only two other tables in when we arrived, which was pretty surprising for a Saturday lunch time. We were seated at the back of the restaurant and instantly ordered some much needed Green Tea, which is free to refill(as it always should be). The menu at Sasa Sushi is pretty big, with an obvious emphasis on sushi — sashimi, nigiri, rolls and sets. We both opted for Bento boxes, both of which came with the appetiser of the day(which was a tasty fish cake), a miso soup and steamed rice and a portion of chicken in teriyaki sauce. Antonia’s Chicken Teriyaki Bento(£10.50) also had a fresh salad and 6 pcs of salmon roll sushi and I had the slightly more expensive house, Sasa Bento(£13.50), which came with salmon & tuna sashimi and mixed veg and prawn tempura. Both were excellent, the teriyaki sauce was particularly good and my tempura had a lovely crunch to it. We also ordered a Dragon Roll(£8.50) filled with king prawn, Japanese pickle & cucumber. It came cut in to 8 pcs and had a dragon’s head and tail made of prawn shells, very cool! The prawn had a crispy coating, so as you bit through the rice coating you got a crunch from the batter, which was a really nice surprise.

We LOVE Sasa Sushi! Service is top notch and the prices are great for the amazing quality of sushi you get. They do lunch time bento boxes which are of good value. Highly recommend this restaurant! My husband also said the«dragon eye» roll is the best he’s ever had.

Decent sushi joint in Angel. I’d come again because the food is good, service was very nice, and it’s a clean and comfortable space. Very attentive and friendly staff. If you plan to sit at the sushi bar, they have these bright blue lights glaring at the table, and for us, it’s distracting when you’re eating something like sushi. The sushi was good, wasn’t amazing. The quality was good too, but there was just no wow factor. The rainbow roll wasn’t traditionally made with a CA type roll– the roll just had some tobiko and a piece of scallop inside. So, don’t expect to order a Rainbow Roll as a filler. For the«spicy» sauce, I usually like the ratio with more sriracha than mayo– here the sauce is made more on the yellow side… so I wonder if it’s even spicy. We went on a Saturday and it started to get busy at around 9pm, meaning the sushi chefs got backed up. When you order, try to order all at once or else you could be waiting a tad longer than you want. Overall, decent place with decent prices. I’d be happy to visit again. If you want to book a big party, I noticed that they put a couple tables together to fit a group of 8.

Sa Sa Sushi is Angel’s best kept secret, that’s no longer a secret. If you love sushi and sashimi that explodes in your mouth with perfectly pitched creativity and only the very finest and freshest ingredients, you owe it to yourself to experience Sa Sa. It’s not just sushi either, this is a complete Japanese menu to explore and the hot dishes are just as impressive.

What I ate on a Monday evening. just before closing… Nasu Deng — £6.50 Two chunky halves of aubergine were soft and smoky beneath plenty of sweet miso glaze. This was delicious and moreish and a top class example of a vegetable dish seen everywhere. Miso — £2.50 Sa Sa Sushi serves some really great miso — so often it is gritty and lacks flavour and taste but this is packed with seaweed, tofu and spring onions with a great rich umami taste. Assorted Sashimi — £18.00 (3 pieces of tuna, 2 salmon, 3 turbot, 2 sea bass, 1 sweet prawn) Because it was late our turbot was substituted with 2 pieces of mackerel and 2 of sea bream. The tuna was fab, thick cut from a great piece of fish, the salmon fat ran thinly and evenly and it melted in the mouth, sweet prawn was also firm and fresh. The mackerel and sea bream were ok but not something to add to any future sashimi orders. Crunchy Tuna Roll — £7.00 A seared tuna, salmon, spicy mayo and avocado filling with crunch coming from wasabi tobiko on the outside and tempura flakes on the inside. Very delicious but not quite as good as the same dish at Pham Sushi. Vegetable Tempura — £7.00 Our original order was the Tempura Deluxe(£10.20 for 3 King prawns 4 pieces of vegetables) but they were out of king prawns. We asked for a whole portion of sweet potato tempura instead of mixed vegetables and they could only offer butternut squash so we gave it a try. The batter was crispy and light but we missed the amazing contrast of the dense woody sweetness you can only get from sweet potato tempura. Drink 1 large hot Sake — £7.00 2 Green Tea — £2.00 Atmosphere We ate at 9.45pm on a Monday evening and there was only one other couple in restaurant but there was still a good atmosphere from the chattering waitresses and chopping chefs. The central sushi station has been moved to the front of the restaurant so some tables now miss out on watching the chefs at work which is a shame. Offers There are no current offers but the menu has an excellent selection of sashimi, sushi and combination menus of varying prices. Verdict Go! We will definitely go back to Sa Sa Sushi if in the area and will continue to use their delivery service(minimum £15 order within 2 mile radius). It doesn’t push Pham Sushi from top spot but Sa Sa Sushi is the best place for Japanese food in Angel.

So this time I ate in. The service was great – so friendly and attentive. The food was good(not amazing) but good. Eel nigiri was notably small. But in general, a nice place to go in the hood for some sushi.

I’m not a great one for sushi — preferring udon, katsu, donburi, more or less anything else when going Japanese because they seem to be easier to get right. I think the whole sushi thing has been marred by the likes of samurai, yo sushi and the ubiquity of cheap bad rolls in supermarkets and take-outs. Sa Sa Sushi is not cheap, but these were on another plane in terms of flavours, textures and even looks and I was bowled over. I am a convert and could soon be an addict. Let me know if you know of similarly good establishments!

Didn’t have the best of vibes as we walked in. The long, light wood panelled room was harmless enough, and the sushi counter to the right gave the hope of fresh preparation, but it was empty bar the chef, a brace of middle aged couples and the waiter I’d seen outside having a fag a minute previously. Still, it was only 6.30pm so not entirely surprised. People need to work harder if we’re going to spend our way out of this recession… We started with a fried combo, after all, raw fish and rice is healthy, so I needed a little fried to start with. The Harumaki, hot, greaseless and crispy rolls with a minced chicken filling worked well with a good, homemade dipping sauce and the veggie tempura tasted much better than they photographed. A nice mix of veg too, firm but well cooked sweet potato, carrot and sweet shallot along with a particularly tasty aubergine that the pair of us fought over. Fresh and clean tasting batter and a good quantity, it made a sizeable dent in both of our appetites. We shared the Sa Sa Deluxe Sushi set, and it arrived as soon as our starter cleared(though without fresh plates slightly annoyingly). We started well, with a perfectly prepared soft shell crab roll, so freshly cooked that the shards of crunchy crab gave a slight heat to the surrounding rice, balancing with a tiny, sharp roe. After that, the nigiri was a bit of a let down for me, the rice came apart too easily and the sea bream was undistinguished and a little chewy. It didn’t sit well next to several strips of bright coloured sashimi. I’d normally baulk at the idea of over coloured fish, but both the salmon and the tuna were meltingly correct, lovely fresh lozenges of sweet raw fish. When food is this simple, it’s easy to get it wrong by not focussing on the basics and I got the feeling from the dining room(and a few other reviews) that this wasn’t the most consistent of joints. That being said, it served its purpose and we walked out satisfied. I’ll be back, but next time we’re in the neighbourhood and it’s my choice, we’re going to Chilangos…

Sushi is always expensive isn’t it? I’m a big guy and need a lot of raw fish to fill me up! Sasa Sushi is clean, quick and tasty. The weird blue light is a bit odd and the place does lake any ambience. I can’t fault the food, I just always think sushi is expensive as I’m always hungry after!

DELISH! NOTE: This place is closed on Sundays. which really bites because for someone we ALWAYS wake up on Sundays wanting some sushi from here.(Plus it’s right down the street from us. Convenient!!) I’ve ordered the spider roll on several occations and it is amazing. Normally the spider rolls I order is way to big to fit a whole piece in my mouth at once, thus causing it to fall apart. This however, was perfect… not too big, not too small. Also, I love miso soup. I’ve only gotten it once though cuz I’m use to it coming w the meal. and i don’t love miso soup THAT much. i’d rather eat sushi. The udon here — it’s pretty good. i wouldn’t say its amazing but if you’re craving it. it’ll do the trick. I can’t comment on the fish dishes because, well, I’m allergic. but everyone I’ve eaten here w/RAVES about it so it gives good reason for you to try it! I’ve had multiple friends recommend this place to me(And then I tell them that I love this place too!). that has to count for something right?! They’re really nice here too. which is always a plus. =)

The food is moderately price(£15−20/head without drinks). Everything I’ve had here was really delicious, except for the Agadashi Tofu. The sauce was really great, but the tofu was very much over-fried. Friendly, helpful staff. Very high quality ingredients.
