And today’s lesson is «Never judge a book by it’s cover». Inside this small and rather dark newsagent sits a small curry takeaway service with a truly authentic, extremely yummy selection of main dishes, rice and sides, all cooked fresh daily. The currys cost £3 for veggie or £3.50 for meat options, so it’s by far the cheapest place for lunch around Shoreditch! You get three big scoops of curry(there is a wide selection, from an exceptional paneer to masala and dopiaza) on a generous bed of rice(choose from white, brown or pilau) and the samosas and bhajis cost just 50p — £1! Now they’re even throwing in a free poppadom with your order! Don’t be afraid, give it a go! Update: Warning: these guys ALWAYS seem to forget to put my bhaji/samosa in the bag. Check before you leave! They owe me a few quid at this point!

Awesome place for cheap and delicious Indian Food. It is located in an off license store so may seem odd, but the food is delicious and you get Veg for 3 pounds and non-veg for 3.50 pounds. You can also mix and match as you please. Check it out if you are in the area and looking for a quick lunch to go.

Amazing, cheap curry. Don’t let the price fool you — food quality is great. And it’s also a newsagent

Shoreditch Plus is an amazing takeaway curry service being run out of an off licence/newsagents on Great Eastern St. £3 gets you rice and a choice of 3 vegetable curries, £3.50 gets you meat curries. They also do some tasty lamb samosas for 50p and something which I didn’t try but which looked amazing — giant deep fried green chili stuffed with potato. The mint raiti dip tastes as lurid as it looks, but in a good way(in my opinion). The portions are pretty substantial and definitely good value especially considering most other places in the area start at £5. I tried paneer, daal and aloo gobi and found them all to be not just a decent standard but actually pretty damn tasty. Staff are super nice and as it’s essentially a production line you don’t have to wait too long for your food. In short: the ideal lunchtime curry.

A great little gem on Great Eastern Street. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, just your average run-of-the-mill cornershop, but, inside lies an Indian takeaway which serves tasty good at affordable prices. For instance, you can get a rice with vegetable curry option for £3 or rice with meat curry for £3.50. Not bad considering the soon-to-be-opened Pod down the road charges close to £6 for a similar-sized serving. Off the top of my head, they serve channa(chickpea curry), Punjabi daal, spinach and lentils, mutter paneer(peas and cheese), chicken curry, lamb curry and so on. You can also choose to add an onion or potato bhaji for 50p. Best of all, they can heat the food for you there and then so you don’t need to worry about stinking up your office. All in all, three stars for the food and an additional star for being so cheap, particularly given its central location.

Had been meaning to check this place out for a while, since there’s always a big queue for their lunchtime curries. Must say, very tasty and very cheap £3.50 for a decent sized lunch is very good going.
