First of all, this is a cool place: good location, nice atmosphere, friendly and hip waiters. The food is good. Had a signature ramen which was up to taste and had nice ingredients in it. The wagyu beef bun was a bit disappointing. Yes it was fluffy, chewy and juicy as the add said, but that’s about all it was. Little taste and beef that was cook to the max and had no juice anymore whatsoever. The food arrived before my cocktail which was a pity and pretty stupid, as I would have had another(high margin) drink with my actual food. Would I go again? Yes, but rather for lunch than dinner.

Convincing tonkotsu ramen, and believe me I’ve had enough to know. The Hakata tonkotsu is rich, with enough umami stickiness to pass muster. Gyoza is fried to perfection, with a lovely crust. Served with a delightful ponzu dipping sauce. Staff are polite and knowledgeable, service is quite fast — that said, we came in around 2.30pm, and there was barely a crowd. Good stuff, although a touch pricey. Worth a visit to satisfy your ramen cravings!

After queuing for a bit outside because they do not take reservations, we were finally sat at a counter in front of a window and were immediately given our menus accompanied by the recommendation of the waitress. After we ordered(both ramen and sides), the ramen arrived about 5 minutes after we had ordered(making me think they have massive pots of that stuff just waiting to be served). The presentation was gorgeous, but I didn’t remember to take a picture because I begun wolfing it down as soon as I could. About 10 minutes after that, our sides(a pork bun and a mixed side platter) arrived which allowed for a very welcome, but not necessary change in texture. The ramen had so many bits floating in it(pork, prawn, egg, mushroom etc.) that it didn’t feel like just soup. I should mention that the mixed platter that I picked(Soho platter if I recall correctly), whilst incredibly tasty, had a spinach cake of sorts dripping in peanut sauce which was not announced anywhere in the menu. I’m allergic to peanuts, and I’m lucky to have asked before, because I was ready to eat that tasty-looking spinach cake. Towards the end of the meal, it was a bit difficult to get their attention to ask for the bill, as it looks like they were slightly understaffed. Overall, incredible food, very pleasant personnel, quick service(mostly). I just wish they would take reservations so I wouldn’t have to queue. Would strongly recommend to anyone.

Very close to Piccadilly Square, in one of the side streets. Being welcomed in Japanese at this restaurant already makes the experience worth while. It’s usually very crowded but I’ve always been lucky so far. The tonkotsu ramen are one of the best I’ve had, I went for the signature dish and every time it did not disappoint! I ordered gyoza as an appetizer once but could not finish the ramen then. Big portion!

I am always willing to give good rates to places that serve good ramen. And certainly Shoryu does so. We tried a couple of ramen bowls, and they were great! I love the fact that they offer complimentary sesame seeds and garlic. The restaurant is cozy, it looks like a genuine Japanese restaurant, and prices are moderate(not cheap, not expensive). However, the Japanese that the waiters speak is very fake(Japanese with Italian accent?). In addition, there was a waiter hitting a kind of drums that sounds like an African instrument. Please, I recommend the restaurant to stop this very fake things. But definitely I am happy I tried Shoryu!

Nestled on a side street about a block from the touristy Japan Center by the Pic Circus tube stop, Shoryu offers affordable, flavorful ramen. I came with a party of 4 around 7PM on a Friday, and our wait was only 5 min! We ordered soon after we sat down, and our server was quick to refill our glasses(something that doesn’t seem to be the case at many other London restaurants). I ordered their original(11 quid), which came with lots of noodles in a sumptuous shoryu broth accompanied with seaweed, thick juicy slices of pork belly, lots of green onions, and the perfect half-cooked soy sauce egg. You can add spicy chili oil, freshly ground sesame seeds and even crush your own garlic to add into your soup. The ramen was served in a pretty large bowl, and I was stuffed by the end. A friend added extra noodles in his soup, which only cost 1.60 pounds extra, so I’d recommend doing that if you’re hungry. They also seemed to have skewered meats and various buns on their menu, but I’ll have to come another time to try those out! Tl;dr — convenient, delicious ramen near Picadilly Circus.

This place gets quite busy during the peak dinner time, so if you don’t want to lineup, avoid this time. If you’re a fan of chilli and all things spicy, try the«Karaka Tan Tan Tonkotsu». It was delicious, and seriously, that egg is divine. The staff are pretty friendly too :)

Japanese has always been my favourite cuisine and ramen is slowly growing in popularity in London. Shoryu has big competition from Kanada-Ya and Konkotsu, but it’s the best ramen I have had in this city. Also, some of the best gyozas I have had. Vibe — 4*(slightly cramped when we went) Beer — 4*(frozen beer was a nice novelty) Ramen — 4.5*(I was reluctant to go for the Piri Piri ramen, as how un-Japanese does that sound but it was great) Gyoza — 5* Improvements — add larger chunks of meat in the ramen. Not sure if this was done for the western crowd, but there should be thicker and longer pieces. Will be back.

I’ve been here 60+ times and I always end up ordering the Karaka Tan Tan. The place is amazing, you should try the Tonkotsu broth ramen in any of their varieties. One of the most tasty tonkotsus i have tried in London. The ingredients are really good, you won’t be hungry after eat this. The buns are pretty good as well. Regarding service, they are all of them really kind, and willing to serve you. In addition, they have a reward program with some free dishes or price cuts each 5 visits.

Wow, this was delicious. We eat so much phở, but we rarely eat ramen. I’m so glad we mixed it up this time! We came at a really strange time, maybe like 4 pm, so the place was nearly empty. I had the signature Shoryu Ganso Tonkatsu, and it was gorgeous. Really silky, rich broth. The meat was tender, the noodles were slurp able, the egg was soft, not too salty… all just wonderful. We also got yakimono — beef teriyaki, chicken teriyaki, and salted chicken thigh with spring onion. The teriyaki ones were my favorites, though the other chicken one was a big hit. Maybe we’ll come here again next time instead of going back to Phở — it really was that good! Totally different, richer and heavier, but a delicious meal.

The tail of two broths. I recently went to House of Ho on Old Compton St and had a bowl of noodle soup. I think the way they made it was like this… Take dried noodles from a packet. Add luke warm tap water, a bit of urine and serve with a sprig of crusty mint, a handful of beansprouts and some raw beef shavings. I made like Gandhi and drank it down. It was so insipid and tepid I instantly removed it from my memory. Then the other day I went to this place and as I made my way through the unctuous broth to the beautifully tender noodles with bite and creaminess I was reminded of the crappiness of the House of Ho version and how good a bowl of soup noodles can actually be. Shoryu Ramen has its faults. Shit service for one. And the layout is higgldy piggldy. Two restaurants knocked into one. It’s pretty hard to get the attention of any of the servers, who seem to be made up of those foreign exchange students who were turned away from Pret because they wouldn’t smile. But throw something at them or turn the menu into a megaphone and you’ll be treated to a mighty delicious bowl of soup noodles. Every ingredient — and there are loads — has its own taste and texture. From the just set egg to the seaweedy bits near the bottom. The pork I had in mine came in delicate fine slivers which tasted beautifully meaty and added to the umaminess of the whole thing. Absolutely delicious. We also had the steamed buns cos it was a Monday two for one offer. And they were delicious too. Light and fluffy with juicy tempura prawns and a tasty mayonnaise. The whole thing was melt in your mouth double niceness. I have heard that this place is a complete mare around lunchtimes with people queueing round the block and service apparently much worse than when we went in late afternoon. I totally believe it but would encourage people not to be put off. Just go when it’s not so busy. The place won’t provide you with much comfort but the food really does.

Shoryu gets really crowded really fast. We tried coming here a couple times previously but have been scared off by the queue. To avoid queues, come at an off-peak time! Only when we decided to go for a very early dinner were we able to be seated immediately. Anyway on to the food… the karaage hirata bun is a MUST! Really delicious. Soft bun with juicy fried chicken. I had the dracula ramen, which was very nice. The broth was rich and tasty, but wasn’t overly salty(which is my main complaint about Bone Daddies). My one complaint was that there was far too much garlic! I usually love extra garlic, but they were a bit too generous for my liking. Come here for delicious ramen. Enough said!

RESTAURANT The restaurant is really nice. I’ve been to many ramen shops in Europe and North America and they usually look all the same with only a different touch here and there. These restaurants are clearly no place to hang out for long. Just eat and leave. Of course you won’t be forced out and you can take your time. It is just that feeling that you only come here to eat. SERVICE No complaints here. Everything was pretty quick and the service staff was friendly and helpful. Good! FOOD I had curry ramen with chicken karaage. They used chicken breast to make the chicken karaage. Good for people on a diet because of the low fat. I’ve seen other ramen shops making them using chicken leg. The extra fat will give them more flavor which those chicken karaage really needed because they kinda tasted bland. For my taste some more spices would have helped. The noodles were good. Nothing spectacular or something I’ve never tasted before but good. CONCLUSION The price was OK, the food good, the place nice. I would recommend this little ramen shop and come back again.

I meant to go to the other one with the better reviews but this one sufficed. Probably the most expensive bowl of ramen I’ve ever had and it was just ok. Noodles were noticeably more firm than other ramen I’ve had in SF and Japan… and I didn’t request any special handling of the noodles. It was unexpected and maybe contributed to my ‘meh’ response to the food. Not sure I would return.

So I really struggled with this review, I really wanted to give it 3.5. First of all, this restaurant has the best service. They’re super accommodating and patient and carefully note any changes you want to make to the order. I ordered the natural ramen with matcha hosumen(green noodles) and asked for the«hard» noodles. I loved the broth, which was light but flavorful and tasted like a mix between mushrooms and miso. However, the noodles were pretty well-cooked and definitely did not have the texture I was expecting. Also, some of the noodles were clumpy and undercooked while some were soft and overcooked. The noodles came with mushroom, shredded ginger, carrot, bean sprouts, spinach and tofu. It was definitely really good ramen, only I wish it had been more consistent throughout! Also, I had a bite of my friend’s egg and I DEFINITELYRECOMMENDYOUGETONE if your noodles don’t include it! Overall, for 11 pounds(12.50 after service charge) it was a great deal and pretty high quality food. I definitely recommend this place if you’re craving ramen! (The normal most popular one comes with pork broth instead and has slices of pork, bean sprouts, some other vegetables and half an egg. This one’s 12 pounds, so they’re all around the same price!

So the word on the street is that Shoryu has been opened by the Japan Centre, so off I went for lunch with a friend. The place is sleek looking, black design, dual store space, although the tables are slightly cramped together. At lunch time it was super busy, must be a testament to how good its food is. I believe I had the dracula ramen(can’t remember — see photo) and I remember the broth was quite mild but I prefer this broth to the broth at Tonkotsu and at Bonedaddies. The egg however, pales in comparison to the runny yolk amazingness that is the egg at Bonedaddies. It is not too thick and creamy, how this compares to authentic Japanese I could not say, but it was nice and gentle to my sensitive stomach. Drinks on the other hand could do with some work. My lunch mate’s drink tasted horrible, and mine was just decent. It felt like too much ice went in so it went a bit too watery. Please introduce some nice drinks for people like me, I have a super sweet tooth. I do not really care that much if the drink is super unhealthy :) Overall, I think I would come back here again, maybe to try the hirata bun, but Flesh & Buns come first for that.

Shoryu was a pleasant surprise for me. As a ramen lover I’m always up to try new restaurants that claim to be great at preparing it. Plus, it would be my girlfriend’s first ramen experience. The menu is self explanatory so that newbies won’t feel aside. I had the shoryu signature ramen and it was absolutely delicious. The broth was amazing. I can definitely say this was the best ramen I have ever had!(I’ve never been to Japan ;)) Overall I was happy with the experience specially because we both enjoyed it a lot! I would just point that the waitresses could be a little bit more proactive and outgoing. Oh…I almost forgot. The mochi is AMAZING!!!

Most people so far will have tried this place as a result of the superbly generous 50% off ramen deal. As a result will have missed out on some of the starters. This review is partly to tell you don’t, as the Hirata buns are unmissable. Service is not normally one of my complaints(food is king amongst all) But when it affects me getting a free starter, it’s gonna make it into my review D: Basically we queued for a while then were taken to our seats by a man that reminded me very much of Mr Miyagi from the Karate kid(no offense to anyone intended) with a friendly smile and similar dress. There we were left. Nobody attempted to ask us if we wanted drinks, nor were we given any menu. So we just kind of sat there a while till we decided it was becoming a joke and asked for menus. Once ordering, we looked around and little plates of raw cabbage were being handed to every new group that was being seated around us. Now I didn’t remotely want or have a need for cabbage at the time, but if you don’t get something everyone else is getting, then it’s a matter of principle. This really annoyed our group. Anyway, this poor service is reflected in the 4 stars. The food itself with no feelings to hurt, was a different story. Stunning. The starters, Hirata buns with bbq pork, chicken and salmon were TASTY. Think soft white chinese steam buns flat and folded in half. I ate two by myself and they aren’t small. We also got the soft shell tempura crab which was okay. That extra hirata bun and the crab was a small mistake along with ordering 1 ramen and an extra to share with the group. After all 50% off means you should eat 50% more right??? Well the ramen soon arrived and I was around 40% full but looking forward to the delicious Hokkaido curry ramen that had been smelling so good on the table for a while. The chicken karate well crispy, despite being submerged in hot soup. The pork broth still standing out against what appeared to taste like katsu curry. I was convinced I had ordered the best dish. The noodles were particularly nice. Good texture and firmness without getting soggy throughout the meal. The cold ramen is also good. The chilled spicy mince sauce was different to anything I’ve tasted as a dipping sauce with flavours hard to identify, but citrus was quite strong. Anyway, I was sad that our group couldn’t finish the extra bowl of cole ramen. Anyways, I hope to go back, hopefully before the 50% promotion ends :) We shall not make the same mistakes we did on this visit and over-order with some luck.
