After a Sunday morning London Walks tour of Hampstead we stopped in for a light lunch. While the cuisine was very good and service was brisk, the waiter forgot our tableware, the S&P, and never brought our waters. We were pleased with the pricing and the location. Very popular area and limited seating, but it turns over fast.

Unfortunately my experience here wasn’t great. Honestly, I don’t think they’re well equipped to be cooking. Every time someone ordered this tiny café was flooded with clouds of smoke from the burnt oil off the pan they use to cook. It became so thick that we had to prop the door open and we stunk of burned oil after we left. Coffee is good tho.

I wanted to love this place. It is located on one of my favourite little backstreets off of Hampstead High Street. As I have walked past it numerous times, I always thought this place seemed cute and quaint and looked like it was a great spot for a Sunday breakfast or lunch. However, sadly I was disappointed with my experience. Now I do feel a little bad for the two guys working here, as the place did seem quite busy and they seemed a bit understaffed. But as they were cooking they were COMPLETELY steaming up the whole café. Man, they needed a new extract-a-fan or something, because the place felt like it was going to go up in smoke. We reluctantly had to open the front door for a bit of ventilation, even though it was absolutely freezing outside. Yikes. Also, my breakfast order came out wrong and then it took them about 20 extra minutes to bring another. The meal wasn’t cooked or anything at all, it was simply a yoghurt, fruit, and muesli breakfast. I didn’t get my meal until both my friends were nearly finished with their English breakfasts. Oh, adorable Simply Scrumptious. How I wanted to love you so…

Nice little place. Friendly people. I would love to give it more stars, because the atmosphere is quite pleasant and the food is not so bad. However, my policy says any coffee shop that cannot make a proper cappuccino will not get more than two stars. Both coffee and croissant was quite a disappointment, so despite the lovely girl who was serving me I can’t give them more than two stars. Could be worth a visit if you are not to picky about the coffee. The place is more peaceful on the weekends, compared to Gail’s and Ginger & White.

Not too many even vaguely greasy spoon type places in this bit of London. Any contrast with the silver spoon would be appropriate at this point. And to be honest I’m not even sure this place qualifies at all, but there is a neon open/closed sign, plenty of busy tables, a dash of Formica and the efficient buz of waiters getting on with it and people chatting. They serve all the usual suspects, loads of sandwiches and meals like lasagna and ham, egg and chips. Tea and coffee as standard. Smoothies and fresh juices, less so. Either way I’d definitely come here for lunch again when I’m around.

Simply Scrumptious is a sweet little café down Flask Walk which is Victorian looking alley way in the heart of Hampstead. It’s a cosy little place which is well cared for, the staff really look after the place and it’s clean and welcoming. They serving a wide range of sandwiches, salads and home made hot food. Their lasagne is a good hearty meal on a cold frosty day. They sell a choice of coffee, tea and they have refreshingly tasty fresh fruit smoothies and their milkshakes are yummy too. It’s a lovely little place to stop off and have a drink and read the paper and it’a always full on the weekend when the Hampstead families are out in full force. Cute.
