Due to poor Internet connection in the office, we took our work with us to the Slug. Great environment, for most of the afternoon it was quiet. The staff were very accommodating, great customer service and a good Internet connection. I particularly enjoyed the orange juice — I had to have 2 big glasses. The outdoor sitting area was buzzing with happy faces, both passer bys and customers enjoying the little sunshine we had that day. Definitely going back there soon, maybe this time it will be after work and I can enjoy a couple of pints.

Only stopped by for drinks. Lovely upstairs area to sit and relax in, but aside from that, the drinks are pretty standard, some of their mixed drinks seemed a bit watered down.

Ok honestly the reason i come here is for the Sports as they show rugby matches frequently on the upper floor, and there is frankly no other earthly reason to come here. While there are loads of seating inside and outside its not clean and I have to say the choice of beers is really really poor and the food is boring. Plus the staff are slow surly and rude on occasion.

As previous reviews have stated, The Slug and Lettuce at Islington Green is pretty much what you would expect of a chain. .. except in terms of cleanliness or service. The whole place had that air of mustiness about it, piled up plates of half eaten food greeted us, and greeted us faster than the bar staff. It seems ignoring customers, plates and glasses was the order of the day. When service was offered it was done so sullenly, with a blank eyed stare, as though we’d interrupted something really, really important. Tables were tacky to the touch that is, sticky. Many bore ‘swipe’ marks as though a grubby damp cloth might have been applied to spread the stickiness about even more. Desultory efforts to gather the numerous plates and glasses covering most tables were eventually made, with all the grace and enthusiasm of a hippo being invited for a desert holiday. The toilets(men’s) were filthy beyond belief and stank. Damp loo paper littered the floor, some was even in the urinals(?!). The chain one might normally expect to be able to pull to work the flush was absent. The toilet itself was filled with heaven knows what bore a startling resemblance to the ‘bangers ‘n mash’ on offer from the menu. The floor of the entire toilet was awash with liquid, what it was lord only knows, but the smell was a sure giveaway. A thoroughly unpleasant experience from an indifferent branch of a chain outlet. Hmmm, I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised.

Smug & Let us (… be because we hog one of the best corner town houses in Islington though we don’t provide quality in anything to justify being here…)

Handy for the Screen on The Green cinema(i.e. right across the road) this is pretty much what you’d expect from the well known chain reasonable food at reasonable prices, middle of the road selection of drinlks at the bar and a few tvs on which to watch the sport. Also has a decently sized function room upstairs with a large screen & projector.

Unimpressed. I went here last night in a group of five. Nice enough location and setup. Beer lineup is average to most people, or awful if you actually appreciate beer. All lagers, cheap ciders and Guinness. I had the house red wine, which was fine. Others got beer or mixed drinks. Music was a bit louder than it needed to be, which I hate. And some lady shoved me at the bar, I guess because I was in her way. Nothing too wrong with this place and I’m sure most people would be satisfied with it.

I don’t know how it is at other times, but it’s a nice quiet break from Upper Street during the lunch hours.

My friends were craving fish and chips, after an unsuccessful attempt at finding the other place we settled on The Slug and Lettuce for a quick bite to eat. The bar has cool outdoor seating, good drink prices, but average food. I think after a few more beers the food’s taste would have improved a bit. My suggestion, drink more or eat less.

I recently went to Slug & Lettuce on a business trip to London and came here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. I was looking for a place where I could enjoy a relatively quick and good Fish & Chips meal. I ordered my food, found a place in the corner, and in 15 minutes I was brought one of the better fish & chips meals I’ve ever had. I’m not sure if it’s the fact that I like next to a polluted lake in the states, but I’ve never had a F&C meal that was as fresh and crispy. If I ever go back, this won’t be on the top of my list of places to go to, but if I’m in the area I’d be happy to go back.

I recently went to the Slug and Lettuce to meet up with a friend. I had never been there but had passed it often. My friend and I meet on Wednesday about 6:00 pm and I was surprised at how empty the pub was. The Slug and Lettuce is huge, but the dark décor is inviting. The bar service was fine, not too friendly but not rude. I had a rum and coke and my friend had a pint of larger. Because the pub was so quiet we were able to sit at a table by the window and watch the world roll by as we caught up. I was underwhelmed by the Slug and Lettuce; it is right on the corner of Islington Green in this huge space so I think I was expecting something grander in the service and décor. As far as pubs go, it’s okay, it’s in a great location for meeting up and having a drink. Other than that I wouldn’t rush back or make it my regular pub hang-out.

The Slug& Lettuce is a well know bar/restaurant chain, that I had not visited before. The branch in Islington is rather big and spread in two floors, and upstairs is more like a disco venue — at least it was on that Friday evening I visited the place. We went there only for drinks(happy hour) and because downstairs were packed we ended up sitting in a disco. The whole second floor was completely empty, and no wonder why. The music was too loud, the dj was one of the worst I have heard(and even though there was no one on the dance floor he wanted to speak between songs) and it was dark as in a cave. Drinks were good and cheap –but the queue on the bar desk to forever. We ended up looking for a new bar even before the happy hour ended. The place does look like all right, lacking personality as chains usually can. but this experience was just so bad.
