Had a nice time here on the way back from the royal observatory. The biggest thing is that ordering is very confusing. You have one side that is a bar only and one side that you can eat in. The staff serves both sides. You have to order at the bar and then get your drinks and sit down. I would suggest they add more staff, maybe it was just the time of day I was there?

Only came in for a drink. Pub is split in two by a fish n chip shop… well that’s a first for me. Pleasant enough music and ambience inside. Three real ales and selection of tap lagers. A decent enough place in the hub of greenwich for a pint or two

Don’t waste your time here. The roast beef sandwich was the driest I have ever had. The mustard saved it, but that was the best point of about it. My children did not enjoy their burgers at all. The beer was good, but that’s not enough reason to go there. Look elsewhere.

Really nice pub located quite close the Greenwich Park and the Cutty Sark. I briefly popped in here for a beer with a friend a week or so ago had a good time. Quite busy but what more do you expect from a pub in the middle of Greenwich! They also have a fish and chip take away which serves as a perfect meal if you can’t be bothered to cook after work! Naturally, being an part time athlete, this didn’t apply to me but never the less thought it was quite a good idea and convenient! The food looked good!

So I came here back in March wanting to try some fish and chips(apparently you need to try it at one point while you’re in Britain) and I wasn’t impressed. The food was cooked well except it was lacking… flavor. Service was decent and the beer wasn’t bad. This isn’t a place I’d go out of my way to come back to though.

The service here was a rather slow, but when my Master Brew did finally arrive it was a rather good pint of the stuff. Unfortunately this is one of those pubs where if the football is on it is pretty much impossible to avoid. The layout is rather uncomfortable too, I think.

I visited the Pub for the first time ever for a Birthday party in their private room. I asked for my friends pint of guinness to be filled correctly to the top of the pint glass but was told that if I did not like it served this way then I could leave. When I spoke to the Manager he handled my valid customer complaint in a very aggressive, rude and unprofessional manner and was told to leave. I am 56 years old and had only a single pint of ale at that time and I actually work in the hospitality industry and have never, never experienced such shocking behaviour from a so called Manager. Needless to say I wrote to the owning company Shephard Neame and their various responses have been disappointing to put it midly without even so much as an apology. The Management’s attitude at all levels leaves a lot to be desired. Hugh.

Wasn’t keen on this pub due to previous experiences! They were good in that one of the group never had I. D but was still allowed to sit with us and have a coke, on the otherhand the were a bit rushed with us at the bar and made us feel unwelcome!

Standard pub. On appearance it’s nice enough, not unpleasant but hardly gleaming with glamour. A good selection of beers on tap and the usual variety of bottled beers and spirits. Split in to two rooms, each with it’s own bar area and a flat-screen TV in both rooms and so on to my own reasons for spending some Saturday late afternoon/early evening time in here. For sports fans this is a handy place, what with the two screens and a penchant for showing sports, particularly football. To add to that they have ESPN, and as many sports showing pubs don’t this is an advantage for the Spanish Galleon Tavern. However, sports fans, prepare yourself for disappointment. For the reason this Tavern is only a two star public house is that you are not permitted to wear anything displaying which team you are supporting. I couldn’t quite believe I was seeing the bar staff asking people to remove scarves and whatnot as it’s «policy». Why? If the jumping up and down, shouting and swearing(which is all fine by the way) doesn’t indicate which team one is rooting for then a scarf isn’t really going to make much difference. Utterly stupid. Only due to some poor planning on my part I arrived team-colourless. I did find it amusing that as a result of the pubs«policy» the establishment and it’s staff were the target of more displeasure and ill-will than anything between the two sets of rival fans. The Spanish Galleon Tavern advertises upcoming live sports events in it’s windows, just don’t enter when visually displaying your support for any particular team — or they’ll kill your mood! Handy for having ESPN but try to find another place showing the big game(small game?), I certainly will be. Don’t advertise sports if you’re not comfortable showing them! Love and peace, Ian

A decent pub, very crowded when there is live sports happening. They have a small dining room at the back that looks a bit tacky. Nothing impressed me about this pub, but there was nothing wrong either. Just your average local watering hole. EDIT31/May/09: I’ve been back again, this time having the Sunday roast lunch. To be honest, it was very bland and average, and out of all the Sunday pub lunches that I have had this would probably be slightly less than average. The food also took a long time to come, despite it being quite empty and 3 in the afternoon. For £10.50, save your money and go to another pub in the area for roast beef. I have now changed my rating from 3 stars to 2 stars.

This time last year the pub had just gone under a refurb. It was just what it needed to help things as it wasn’t exactly the greatest pub. unfortantely it obviously hasn’t helped. I went in around a year ago and i stayed for maybe 20 mins. I put it down to all the NEW staff and i mean ALL! even the manager didn’t really eem to know what was going on. I put it down to that. It was like watching chaos but only worse and like at the circus. Everyone was rushing around and on top of one and other. Obviusly from the other reviews it hasn’t changed, only seem to get worse as the staff are now rude as well as incompetant. Where’s the need for that, if you are rude to the punters then you aren’t going to draw them back in are you? !? ! ? How UNsuprising that its always a hit and miss pub and that people don’t want to go back again. I have a friend that left another pub working with me that she left as the Galleon where offering more money and better hours, i think she left after 2 weeks as the manager and other staff were so rude to her. I don’t think there’s even the slightest chance that i’d knock this one up to a 2*…

There is something strange about this pub. I never go in. On the rare occasions I’ve been in, it’s very hit and miss. Went in for mulled wine once and it tasted like ribena. Which is not good. I was trying to convince my friend that mulled wine is lovely so this didn’t help matters. Then i went in again and had some pretty good fish and chips. I was shocked at how nice they were. But I do agree with the other review. i don’t like this pub. I find it just average. There are so many great pubs in Greenwich that there’s no point going to this one.

I went there once and never wanted to go back again, staff are just rude and the whole place stinks. By the fact that they don’t have anything to compensate thier downside, I will have to skip this one when wandering in Greenwichshame.
