When Sushi Wa opened in our neighbourhood, we were all excited as the previous restaurant had been such a failure. (Seriously, I think it was a money laundering business as they never had any customers, it seemed.) And thus a few days after it opened, we went to try it out… that was quite a while ago and we’ve been back several times since.
However, to be quite honest, Sushi Wa wasn’t what I would call one of my instant favourites. My first visit was actually not so much of revelation — I liked the décor, the nice service, but thought the food was only so so. Plus, I thought it was odd that a sushi place would also offer a partially Korean menu, such as bi bim bap.
Now Sushi Wa has come to be one of our deafult take-away locations and funnily enough, the bi bim bap has become a favourite of mine. (To be sure, it’s not amazing, but quite good.) My partner always orders the Mixed Chirashi and the rolls are generally also of very good quality.

Proper Japanese sushi bar with apparently Japanese staff. Reasonably priced bento boxes etc at lunchtime when you consider some of the food is cooked on the spot.
Actually, really hot Japanese food is a bit of a shock when you’re more used to Taro, Yo! Sushi etc and I burned my mouth. Silly me!
I wasn’t keen on the maki in the bento box as I wasn’t sure what was in it crabstick possibly? I’d have preferred something like oshinko maki. Also the green tea was very tepid. Still, I did walk in there just before they closed at 3pm so perhaps I shouldn’t complain.
Anyway a good addition to the Highgate/Archway area, and certainly far, far better than the rather odd little Japanese place in Seven Sisters’ Road.

Little Japanese restaurant on Highgate Hill.
Staff are really friendly and the food is delicious.
They serve a selection of good Japanese food but I’m addicted to the Korean Bim Bim Bap.
Could do with a little more atmosphere in the lighting but defo worth a checkout as the food is splendid. l
