In fairness I would give this place a 3.5*. My boyfriend and I had walked past this place on a walk along the Thames on a sunny day a few weeks ago. Knowing that there were a few pubs in this«plaza» area, we decided to come back yesterday for a pint of cider and a spot of lunch. We opted for the Boathouse because the, food menu sounded good and we spotted a roof terrace and let’s be honest, who can say no to a roof terrace? We got a seat upstairs outside and a menu was brought straight away. It took quite a while for someone to take out food order. Luckily we had been a bit hasty and ordered our drinks downstairs before entering the restaurant part, so I didn’t mind the wait. Turns out we were too chilly sitting out on the balcony, despite that being the main attraction of us going there! We moved inside and the staff were very accommodating of this, although they didn’t bring us any cutlery or napkins so we had to get this ourselves. The food arrived when we moved tables; we got some garlic bread for starter which was on really nice bread and was a very generous portion for £3. We both got the burger which was delicious — cheese, onions and a tasty bun… what more could we ask for! The burger was slightly overdone so a little dry, but was tasty enough. The best bit was that they brought dishes with ketchup and mayonnaise in along with the food, which saved us having to ask for it as we normally always do! This turned out to be a fairly pricey lunch with £4.50 for a pint of Aspall and £12 for a burger. The staff were okay and relatively friendly, although the service wasnt very rapid. Nice décor inside and a lovely view outside on a sunny day but a bit too cold if it’s cloudy.

Unwelcoming, rude, will never go back. Wifi is poor, went in to do a bit of holiday research and the first stumbling block and mission impossible was please may we have two coffees? To which we got a gormless look of confusion and despair. Forget about service… And don’t even get me started on the shezlong… What’s the point in having it if you don’t want me to ‘style out’ on it? C’mon guys, you have an amazing place where was the smile? And tbh, talking about your customers thinking we’re stupid is a great impression(sense the sarcasm) I can’t get over how disinterested these people were. Food looked good though … Shame. How do you give zero stars? Maybe if I was a pretty blonde, the shezlong, myself and the manger would have got on great(who knows?)

Good view from balcony. Fish and chips were great!

This place didn’t blow me away like I thought it might. Like others have said, it’s a great location when the weather is right but it’s pretty much the same as all the other vanilla riverside pubs lining the Thames. Prices are typical Youngs prices and the food does seem overly priced, especially the 12⁄13 quid they’re asking for to have a basic enough burger and chips. Table service was at the standard low levels you expect across this city, empty glasses piling up everywhere and a slightly disgruntled waiter who could have done with putting a smile on her face. I wouldn’t be rushing to return here but I also wouldn’t put the place on my blacklist, however I would be making alternative suggestions.

Went to meet up with my cousin which I hadn’t seen since I have arrived, and have since been a few time. It’s a lovely place to go on a sunny day, however slightly over crowded in the winter months when it’s been raining. The food isn’t too bad, but i also feel it is over priced for what you get. This definitely wouldn’t stop me going in the future.

I agree with the general Qype consensus on this pub. The location is great and sitting on the balcony on a nice sunny day is fantastic. The food however is just ok, not bad just not wow. So with it the food just being ok the prices are slightly inflated. I.e. the food really should be £7/£8 rather than £12. Sure it’s a slight difference but it’s 50% than they really should be charging. If it wasn’t for the location I doubt the restaurant would survive based on the quality and price of its food.

Such a great location by the Thames and a great place to go for an afternoon drink in the summertime. I haven’t been to this place in a long time I went a few weekends ago and when the place isn’t very busy, it feels a bit on the grimy side. It was nice we were able to get real nice comfy seats but it took such a long time to get drinks. Bless the bartender since she was rather new but it was almost a painful experience trying to order 5 drinks for my group. I asked for Pimms and she looked with a clueless look and literally just filled it with Pimms and lemonade. I asked if there was any fruit and she said no and handed it to me. I asked a different bartender and he at least offered some lemon and lime to go with it.

Cool place to go on a sunny summer evening. I wanted something to snack on so I got the tiger prawn starter and thought it was tasty. We sat on the top deck and over looked the river while we drank flavored cider.

I‘m new in London and one of the first pubs I‘ve been is The Boathouse. I must say I like it very much. It is a walking distance from my house and is very near to the river. I prefer to sit on the terase, the view is beautiful. The food here is simply delicious. I had a chicken(freerange!) breasts with salad and I can recommend it to anyone. The service is also good, nice friendly people :) I‘ll come again here at Friday to try the Lobster night.

The Boathouse is where I spent most of my Friday nights this past summer… my co-workers and I would always head here for an end-of-the-week pint or three, and it was always a good time. It’s a bit pricey and only a few draughts on tap, but the outdoor area is good-sized and right on the river. Wouldn’t go there much in the winter, though, as the inside bar can get quite crowded… but on a breezy summer night, there’s nothing better!

The main selling point for this pubs is its large balcony, by the river, although this is less of a plus than you might originally think, when you realise that this part of the river is on a very obvious flightpath. Plane after plane flies past, destroying any potential tranquility. Beyond the balcony(and the tables outside) this is just an overpriced, over-shiny Youngs pub. My pint wasn’t up to standard either.

Location location location & that if your being harsh are the three things this pub has going for it.. . So summer time by the river it’s perfectly pleasant, but otherwise it’s overwhelmingly average.

Nice burger, good outside space and properly cold perroni on tap. The décor especially outside is all a bit too modern though and its probably rubbish in winter

It’s a pub by the river. In Putney. It’s expensive. Big Dave likes to drink until he’s drunk. That’s all.

Yet another Young’s pub aimed at the affluent Fulham set, this place sometimes feels as though it’s not putting in the effort because people will nearly always stream to a pub by the riverside(unless it’s excruciatingly grim)(or a Walkabout). The three floors provide plenty of space but it still manages to get busy and crowded. It is possible to reserve tables and comfy seats though. The usual drinks and food offered by a reasonable Young’s pub at slightly above reasonable prices(although they often offer special deals on meals). Service can be a bit hit and miss, it depends who you get and how well the kitchen is coping that day. Basically it’s OK for a quick drink after work and good if you want to go to the pub with smokers who will appreciate sitting outside in the summer with a view.

Decent Young’s chain pub, although how decent you think it is I guess depends on your opinion of those river side developments, of the glass box variety. This put is slightly conspicuously located amongst one such development but has made concessions to the local architecture in it’s glass front and balcony/terrace bit on top. As a result it’s a total summer pub and as it’s right on the river, it is a nice location. It can be ridiculously busy though and frequented by people who consider sport interesting enough to sustain a wardrobe and a friendship. I’ve eaten downstairs where there is a more casual bar style menu to upstairs. Hummus features inevitably as does the usual raft of burgers and pies. I had the Chicken Caesar Salad which for around a tenner I found a little on the steep side. Can you justify something loosing around £5 as well as a 100 calories on a bowl of lettuce? Obviously the beer is mostly Youngs so you know what to expect there, there’s a wine list too and a full bar for everything else.

The Putney Boathouse has definitely attempted to secure a position at the high end of British pubs. That is not to say that it is anything overly special. During the months when the weather is pleasant enough to make use of the outdoor terrace and balcony overlooking the river, it definitely has a certain situations advantage over other pubs. However, when the sunshine is slightly more absent, the pub is nothing out of the ordinary. I find The Boathouse rather overpriced and disappointing. There is nothing overly offensive about it but equally little to draw me back.

This pub really gets the points for its location — wonderfully situated beside Putney Bridge and the river with great views. I took my mum there for lunch one Friday afternoon, but was very disappointed with the food which was lukewarm and very uninteresting. Surprisingly pricey too so be warned.

Beautiful building, beautiful area and beautiful views. Food? Not so beautiful! Went for a company lunch one deliciously sunny afternoon and everyone of the 10 in attendence were dispappointed. Dry chips; bland and boring tuna salad; dried burgers; store-bough lasagne. Not good! The barman was understanding and did take comments on board, however. Maybe just give the Boathouse a try for drinks in the sun and avoid eating there. Nearby Carluccios’ is recommended!
