A great pub for a summer drink! The staff are very friendly, striking up a conversation the moment you walk through the door. The drinks are reasonably priced and they do a mean roast of Sunday’s. Out back they have a fantastic beer garden with plenty of seating. You can even reserve an area for parties/get togethers. A classic — I recommend!

Passed this place by many times before entering. Was pleasantly surprised. Delicious food, Sunday roast and the sausage platter are amazing. Really cheerful and helpfull staff and a variety of beers on tap, cellar chilled. Atmosphere is also great. Top ten places to go if you have little ones too.

Came here with a friend the other day and ordered a well done beef burger and chips. They served it to me still pink in the middle so I sent it back and came back again pink in the middle. I changed my mind and ordered a chicken burger which arrived incredibly quick??? The waiter was grumpy kept giving me evils and every so often when he walked by he would nudge my friend! HORRIBLE!!!

We just live around the corner and have been here a few times. Mainly sundays! Staff is very nice and helpful. The Sunday roast was amazing! Absolutely delicious and we didnt have to wait long! I had the kids portion which was plenty of food, followed by the apple crumble! They do have an outside area as well! Perfect pub for a relaxed weekend get-together!

This place was cool but since we took a 35 minute taxi ride to come here after my friend read ‘amazing reviews’ about the Bangers and Mash I would say its absolutely not worth the ride. It might be cool if it were a 10 minute walk but definitely not worth the ride. All considering I had a Ginger cider(decent) and Fish and Chips(decent). We also shared the Sticky Toffee Pudding(dry and not all decent). The service was meh/ok. Sorry I wasted the taxi ride and pounds. Nothing to write home about. Would not come back.

Nice neighborhood pub. Good atmosphere and nice selection of beer and cider. Not the best bangers and mash I ever had. Actually probably the worst. But the Scottish egg was amazing! My friend had the fish and chips and while she said it was good, this version can be found anywhere. We ended with the sticky Toffee pudding with the custard. The dessert did not disappoint.

This is a lovely pub located close-by to my house, almost my local. It’s gorgeous inside, cream, gold and dark wood. They serve a range of ales and ciders on tap, along with your usual suspects and lots of wines for every taste. All reasonably priced for London, but not the very cheapest in the area. Try the ginger cider, it’s very tasty and I haven’t found it elsewhere yet! In the winter they serve hot cider punch laced with rum, amazing. They have a small but nice sounding range of food, with your traditional roast dinners being served on Sunday for a tenner. I haven’t eaten there but my housemate has and said the roast was good value. The upstairs has a fire, board games and books. There is also a large outside seating area for sunny days! Dogs and children are allowed, so on a Sunday afternoon it has quite a family atmosphere/feel to the place. They hold quiz night every other week, which is lots of fun. The pub is located right by a bus stop, so handy for traveling home after a few jugs of cider. Only downside is every time I’ve been the toilets have smelt really bad — sort that out and they’ll get five stars from me.

The complete transformation of a local boozer into a destination has been wonderful to see.

I’m not sure how to feel about this place since the refurb, under new owners. It does look very nice and is certainly a lot smarter than its more traditional predecessor. The beer range has improved too, with a wider range of fairly well known beers. I think it lacks a bit of character somehow and I don’t just mean the great chap who was the previous landlord. The mix of the(thankfully) preserved older features and the more modern décor seems a bit uncomfortable at times. It lacks warmth somehow. Maybe when the place feels a bit more lived in. Good pub though… particularly for the area!

I ordered a marinated chicken supreme, while my friends all got burgers. They were all done their food before my chicken came out. We think that the staff forgot about my order entirely by the way they looked at me when I checked up on it. The kale and chorizo and the potatoes were good, but the chicken itself was not. It was possibly not marinated enough: a bit tough and dry on the inside. Good root beer and sour mash beer, though.

An alright pub. Has a good local vibe, warm atmosphere. Beer range is poor to average. Six casks all pretty unexciting — all bitter/golden ale/ESB from the likes of Fullers, Hop Back, Timmy T, Kent. Prices are average. Staff is cheery. This is a part of London I certainly know little about, so this very may well be a good option for the neighborhood; however, it is definitely not a destination pub.

The Brownswood has undergone a bit of a transformations recently, gone are the beer sodden carpets and in come the wooden floors and gastropub aspirations. For a post climb pint and bite to eat it couldn’t be more convenient. Last time I had the burger, it was all very good but was missing the bacon I had paid 50p extra to have added on. On Sundays the usual menu is on hold(including the inventive sausage and mash combinations) while they do a range of roasts. From all the ones we chose, the lamb looked the best but my beef was also decent. This is by no means the best roast I’ve ever had, nor the best roast in the area, but it’s decent and for less than a tenner it’s good value too AND they don’t scrimp on the gravy(although Kevin still managed to use all his up before the food was gone). By about 2:30pm Sunday the place got very busy with families and their(very loud) babies. I’m sure I’ll be back after another punishing climbing sessions in the near future.

Came here after climbing at the castle, it’s right down the friggin street, so great. Was a Sunday evening and a bit crowded but managed to find a place for the four of us to sit and drink for a bit. They have a choose-ur-own sausage and sides kind of menu that I was eyein and finally decided to order. Turns out they stop doing that one on Sundays to make room for their roasts. Meh, an excuse to come back I guess :) But Im afraid that if a big group of us come here after climbing another Sunday there wont be any room for all of us to sit and have a roast too. Going to find out if they take reservations cause otherwise we’d definitely be SOL here despite the upstairs seating as well.

Went to the newly refurbished Brownswood and I hated every single bit of it. Lifeless, soulless and boring.

One of the old breed of «locals» that is sadly dying out. The landlord is usually present and there’s a water bowl out for his dog. It is also the perfect place for drinks after climbing at the Castle up the road. Spacious interior for people carrying bags, they don’t mind bikes being brought indoors(to the right by the door) and they serve Thai food until just after ten. Not a place to travel across town for but well worth stopping by if you’re in the area.

The atmosphere stinks– literally, it often smells of pee and it’s certainly not a ‘destination’ pub. It’s kinda out on its own away from the rest of the delights and curiosities of both Finsbury Park and Stoke Newington but the Brownswood Part Tavern is worth a little visit. Thank goodness it’s so far survived the usual pub gentrification. This is old school Old Man’s drinker with décor and clientele to match. They have the usual draft beers and an uninviting wine selection but the merit of this place lie in other areas. For one, it still has a pool table and Lordy, there aren’t enough pubs that have those. But the real draw of this place is the great Thai food. Walk in and sitting behind a little boothey counter thing, under the big screen tele you’ll find a young Thai lady ready to take your order. Think of all your favourite fresh flavoured Thai dishes and they do them, eat in or take away. And they do them well. The jungle curry is a particular favourite and has a mighty fine kick so try this if you like your food firey. I don’t know why there are so many of these pubs that have decided to serve ‘authentic Thai cuisine’ but for sure this is my favourite go grab yourself a pint and get stuck in.
