The food here is really nice and the atmosphere is lovely. As it is a butchers it has high quality meat and it tastes gorgeous. We had the pork belly in bourbon sauce for starter and it was amazing. It’s a must try. And then I had a lamb burger for main it nice however the lamb was like a salt crust and was very salty unfortunately that lowered my opinion of it however the rest was nice and at the end none of us had room for dessert! We went for the early bird 25% off offer we hadn’t printed the confirmation out so we had to email the confirmation email of our discount to their business account which was a bit annoying and then when they removed the discount it wasn’t actually 25% off because they added a £10 service charge! But we didn’t notice until we left. This lowered our overall opinion of this place.

I bring my family to the butcher and grill when they visit London. It’s has a lovely, relaxed atmosphere and the food is always excellent. Since it is a butcher’s and a restaurant, you can expect to find a large selection of good quality meats. I enjoy their fillet steak, which is always cooked perfectly. On my most recent visit, I had the free-range chicken breast which was very juicy and flavourful. Despite being a butcher and grill, my sister is a pescatarian and she really enjoys the selection of fish and vegetarian dishes on offer. We never seem to have room for dessert(!) but I have tried their liquor coffee which is very good. They also have a large selection of wines to choose from. I feel that the service can be a little on the slow side, but as my family aren’t a fan of servers hovering around the table, this doesn’t worry us too much. I look forward to returning soon!

my son said the burger was the best he ever had, and the scallops were amazing. We have had their steaks before all of the food is great and very fresh. Their butcher is also excellent if a little expensive. The service is exemplary, the staff really really care.

A hidden gem in the SW area. I love this place!!! I’ve passed by it a million times thinking it was just a deli and butcher place up until a friend recommended it sometime last year. The restaurant is at the back of the deli/butcher ara. We had the delectable t bone steak for 2, spinach, fries with bernaise and garlic butter sauces. They have a very good list of wines. I would recommend the malbec and the merlot on the list to go with the steak. The service was good and the place was clean and nice relaxing atmosphere. I love the waiters there. You can also see some yachts/boats by the deck at the back.

The food is excellent here, but the service leaves a bit to be desired(also confirmed by friends who have dined here). One of my wife’s Eggs Florentine was overcooked, but they promptly replaced it — my burger was missing the cheese I had requested, but they quickly added it… So, a few hiccups during our brunch, but when the food was finally correct, it was really delicious! Anyway, I’m willing to overlook mistakes as long as they are put right, so I’ll give it 4 stars as the food is quite good and I will go there again when in town.

As the name implies this is both a butcher and grill. It is handy to go for a bit to eat while they are preparing your butchers order to take home. The food is okay but my issue with it is its inconsistency — in both portion size and service. They do serve a full breakfast on the weekends and I’ve heard their Sunday roast is excellent.

Only went for a cappuccino which was… just ok, but I sat outside on a sunny day so that made up for it. The food looks very nice and it had reactions of the other diners. They have a small«store», but most things are very expensive and kinda useless. I recommend they start selling items that us locals can use at reasonable prices.

The take away food is alright in terms of quality, although most salads come with way too much dressing and onions. On top of it, it is outrageously overpriced: nearly £6 for a salad?!(Servings are smaller than before) The dish of the day is in the same ballpark, around £6, whatever it is: for a beef bourguignon it’s fine, but for a bowl of pasta, I doubt it’s worth it! Behind the counter, the staff is very unfriendly. I’ve never heard a «hello» from any of them. I understand during rush hour it has to go fast, but being polite should not come as an option. Butcher & Grill take-away just take advantage of the fact they are the only take-away around to pump up the prices and to not give a damn about customer service, especially since the Spar next door had shut down. Loafs of people working around have already stopped going there and prefer to walk a bit further to get lunch from the Co-Op on Battersea bridge, or at the Street Kitchen(same prices but friendly staff, good portions, and no onion based salads).

I confess I’m playing catch-up on reviews but luckily the Butcher and Grill stuck in my mind so I feel justified writing this a few months afterwards. Basically, try this place out for the Monday steak deals where steak and chips are just a tenner. Not too shabby right? The steak itself was a decent good value piece of meat served with peppercorn sauce and a bowl of thick cut chips. If you do the deal, you only get the rump steak whereas the a la carte menu offers up the usual suspects. I’d asked for it medium rare and got the US version of that(more medium than rare) so if, like me, you enjoy a bloody piece of meat I’d go for rare or maybe dare to try asking for it blue. The chips are like the steak, good value but not going to knock your socks off. Cocktail are made a bit weak especially given the hefty £9 price tag on my old fashioned. I’d probably stick with beer and wine and wander down the street to one of the many bars(say the Doodle bar if it’s open) for drinks afterwards if need be. But it’s a Monday so you can just have a beer and not think of yourself as a failure. I promise. The other thing is that the ventilation sucks in the warmer months. It was hot enough that I think my steak was still cooking while I ate it. We tried opening a window but the difference in air pressure meant we created a mini whirlwind inside and had to quickly shut it. So perhaps save this for a winter spot when the impressive heat retention is a plus point. Overall, good value place if you are in the area or fancy a steak but are a bit skint. Not a place to impress but rather to catch up with friends.

Good steak, not great. Good service, not great. This restaurant could be superb, they have the ingredients for something really special. At the moment it is just a little like sitting at the back of an expensive deli.

The Butcher & Grill is a decent, if pricey, butcher, deli and restaurant. I’ve stopped by twice now: once to source some ‘Tea Pigs’ from their deli, and once to eat there. I happened to swing by for food on a Monday, when their steaks are half-price. That made ordering very easy — I’ll have a 280 gram Rib-Eye steak and chips for £10.50 please! I accompanied it with a glass of Chilean Cab Sav and some broccoli, and was given some complimentary bread and butter in a small wooden crate. Everything was pretty good: the meat succulent and well-seasoned, the broccoli buttery but crunchy and the wine reasonable but a little flat. I glanced at the dessert menu, which continued in the above-average quality yet pricey vein e.g. a brownie made with 70% cocoa solids Valhrona chocolate for £7(you can get the same from Galeto’s stalls at food markets across London for no more than £2.50). I then finished with a glass of their more expensive ports, which was rather pleasing — certainly, I was slightly disconsolate when it was gone. The service was quick, polite and helpful. The interior is all wood(tables, chairs, floor), while walls and blue ceiling. The restaurant backs on to a wharf leading on the to the river. It’s slightly secluded courtesy of the buildings on either side, but it’s still possible to dine alfresco by the water if so desired. Candles are lit as the evening progresses, so I was somewhat surprised when the sound of… Moby began to be played in the background. I would have thought some soft trumpet or piano jazz would be a better match. The clientele are just the kind of residents one might expect this close to Battersea Park: moneyed young professionals, young families and older couples. My favourite of the evening was the lady who(successfully) remonstrated with the staff telling her that they were fully booked that she and her husband only wanted a table for«One ARE! One ARE!» I presume an ‘are’ is a unit of time. I was slightly stung however by the discovery that they’d charged me an ‘optional’ service charge on the steak at full price rather than half-price. I asked that it be removed and I added a tip separately, but it did it rather shock me: how many other customers were likely to spot this? Very few I suspect, resulting in most of them being(by London standards) fleeced by service charges of around 20%. Overall, I was happy with my experience on half-price-steak Monday and will probably return for more of the same in the future. But I’ll be keeping a close eye on their calculations of the service charge.

Oh, how I miss Butcher and Grill. I would walk there every morning from my place in Battersea for breakfast. I particularly miss the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. .. and the berry compote they serve with yoghurt. .. and the Croque Madam. .. everything! I also enjoyed a few solitary suppers there– I always ended up ordering the steak tartare and a glass of champagne. Lovely. I have posted a few longer pieces on B and G on my blog:

An ok place with so so meat, which is a let down in itself as that is what they specilase in .Nice staff but food quality avarage and could not undersatand why so pretencious(price wise) considering it was nothing special. If you need a propper meat fix then rather try Hawksmoor.

This not a real butcher, only men who know nothing about being butchers behind the counter with ready cut meats. When I asked for tripe and beef tendon, the so-called«butchers» looked at me as if i had a third eye. Fine, not everyone eats this stuff but they should at least know the anatomy of a cow. So the next time I stop in I picked up a £3.33 jar of olives which did not taste fresh and firm. For a place to rave itself as such a high quality butcher and restaurant, I give it 1 star for even pretending to try.

This place is very good. If you are looking for some great meat then look no further. I think this place is a really good idea. It’s a combination of butchers and restaurant, hence you choose the meat that you want from the counter and they cook it for you. I went her for lucnh a few years ago with a friend and we had a lovely afternoon. I started with the squid, which was not great. It was a school boy error on my part, as I should have stuck to what they were good at. The shoulder of lamb more than made up for it. It was a huge, delicous piece of meat. It was complimented with a lovely bottle of Rioja. We finished with the cheese baord(very nice) and another bottle of Rioja. I had heartburn that evening, but it was well worth it. Thorughly recommend this place. It’s up there with some of the best in my carnivore’s guide to London.

Just thought the last review should mention a few changes. Menu is now bigger with Fish and vegetarian dishes, butcher’s shop has grown to include cooks ingredients and foodie goodies. Wine list is bigger and now there is also a large impressive range of retail wine — from small pockets to deep jangly pockets. Steaks which are the main drawer come in 3 sizes up to 16oz. Meat is free range from Highfields farm in Sussex — about as close to London as farming gets… if you register on their website they always have some offers /events worth checking out too. I am a big fan

Battersea isn’t much of a tourist draw but this combination butcher shop/steak house is a good reason to head south of the Thames. With exposed ducts, brick walls, and wooden floors, the split-level dining room has a bit of an industrial feel, but it’s bright and airy if not a bit noisy when full. Our only complaint is with the hard wooden chairs, which become less and less comfortable as time passes. Don’t expect to find much in the way of seafood or vegetarian options. This is a place for dedicated carnivores. You can select your cut of beef, pork, lamb, veal, poultry, or game from the butcher counter and indicate how you would like it prepared or order sight-unseen directly from the menu. Either way your choice will be cooked to perfection, because the kitchen crew knows the difference between medium rare and well-done. There’s not much in the way of extras here. The mashed potatoes and garlicky grilled mushrooms are perfect sides for a juicy steak or moist burger, and they have a nice selection of puddings for dessert. Dinner for two with a bottle of wine runs about £90.

Very, very good steak. We went in on a Saturday evening without booking, which could have been a mistake, since it was quite busy and we could hardly find an open space But then the manager kindly made up a special table for us in a cozy nook. We were then given free glasses of champagne due to the wait We ordered steak with various delectable side plates of veggies and chips We were most impressed. The steak was very well prepared and tasty. The food on the side was also very good. It was quite expensive but with the quality of the food– it is to be expected. This is a great place to go for a night out It is like a modern butcher shop, a relaxed restaurant and plus they serve a variety of food options to buy over the counter
