This local pub is a great gem in my neighbourhood. The pies and mash are tasty and filling and the staff are pleasant. It’s never too crowded and the outdoor tables are perfect on a sunny evening. There is a very local vibe about it that is lacking in many other pubs in the area so check it out if you want a nice English boozer.

I’m an American so any pie that’s not apple-flavored is immediately suspicious. Throw meat into the mix, and I’m just not sure what you’re up to. I walked into this joint during the Christmas season and ordered a Moo Pie. Wasn’t sure what that nonsense was, but a woman’s got to eat. Well I ate the Moo Pie, and while I’m assuming it was beef, it honestly could have been cat or dog or human and I wouldn’t have cared because that pie was the best damn meal I’ve ever had, and I WILLEATITAGAINSHALL I RETURNTOTHISBLESSEDLANDOFMYFOREFATHERS. Eat the Moo Pie. Drink the cider. Pretend like it’s the 1700s or whatever because it’s a cool, old pub. ENJOY.

Had the Pie on a later night. Wow, just wow. They may be Piemaster pies(I think) but are nowhere near the supermarket quality. Just so good(I had the Chicken and Ham Hock and two others had the Venison and Steak and Stilton). All were amazing. And the woman at the bar brought our beer orders to the table as the pub was so full. Wow, thank you for the first person in London for offering that. I’ve had some great service at pubs, but she just was top notch. Go hear. Wonderfully cozy place, great mix of people, wonderful service, and a proper pie and mash shop. What’s not to love?

Pretty great pub. Nice atmosphere! Friendly staff! The drinks are solid and the pie is fantastic. Try the stake and kidney. Just remember to order at the bar. Enjoy!

Closest pub to my flat, and it’s a cozy one tucked behind the Children’s Museum. Wallpaper of big ol’ roses raining down, and there are fresh roses on each of the tables. Beer selection has nice variation in the bottles, and they have Lagunitas IPA on tap, along with another American-style IPA, at least on the night I was there. They’re known for their steamy hot pies, served with peas and mash for £9.95!

What a lovely, lovely pub — especially if approached via a walk down several back alleys. Unfortunately, there wasn’t time to taste any of the amazing looking pies as we stopped just to meet up before moving on to an event at York Hall around the corner. I will definitely be back and stay till closing next time.

Cosiest little pub. I adore it. It’s not like every other pub has some food on the menu just to be able to say it has but actually serves lots of decent meals. Pies, mashes and lots of ales in a nice and friendly ambiance, what else could you wish for? Maybe some more room for the whole company. The pub is quite tightly decorated and they’ve tried to pack lots of seats in a not very wide space. Apart from that, kudos for the awesome pub.

Our travels started in London as did our food adventures in Europe. For our first meal on day one, we were all starving from long plane and subway rides so we searched for a local watering hole within walking distance from the flat we were staying at. The Camel came up for its status as a neighbourhood pub specializing in pot pies. I ordered the steak and chorizo pot pie served with mashed potatoes, gravy, and peas. It was delicious and filling with great texture, flavour, and well-cooked. We washed down our pies with some local pints of beer including an IPA brewed down the street, ginger beer, and a German lager. I enjoyed the basic English lunch and staple.

My favourite place in the area. I see that many people like it because of the non-smoking policy and I would also join their ”team”. Fast service and always freshly prepared food. Highly recommend them!

I have been visiting this place for years now and it still stays my favourite in the area. Even before the law this place had a non-smoking policy, which was the main reason I visited so frequently. You see most people don’t pay attention if there is a child nearby while they are smoking, but for me that was a huge problem as I didn’t want to harm my granddaughter. We’ve been coming here almost every afternoon. She always has the apple pie and I– the lamb one, and frankly they both taste delicious. The service is great. All the staff are really kind and welcoming, although you have to place your order at the bar, but that’s not such a big problem for me. As far as decorations go this place has a really unique and classy one. The atmosphere there is very warm and cosy, making you feel at home. Although the true character of this place comes out at night I also recommend going there in the afternoon, because you won’t be disappointed, but you might want to take a bit more cash with you as it can be a little bit pricey for some people.

The locals round here are quite fortunate to have this pub and The Florist nearby. The pubs can’t get too much passing trade given the location so I guess the punters are mostly from the area. This pub has a nice old fashioned tile exterior They layout here is slightly uncomfortable but that shouldn’t bother you once you have a nice pint of ale(from a decent selection) in your hand.

I got terribly drunk here. And if in this special case I(reportedly) did NOT behave like the pathetic, plastered piece of tourist I was, it was most definitely not due to any good education. It was due to the holiness of the place. Because this is The Pub. The Mother of All Pubs. The One and Only Holy Pub. Thank you for those soothing, sobering vibrations, oh holy Camel!

Really this should be a 5 star pub. It has almost everything: Small and cosy, with big windows, nice eclectic furniture and old wood everywhere; this place just eases you in and everything feels just right. It can get busy so just head away from the doors to ensure you don’t get jossled. And its easy to see why it gets busy: the beer is good(Bitburger on draught being my favourite) the chairs/tables very condusive to sitting all day. The much mentioned pies a delight(good value at £8.95) — this place satisfies on many levels but there is a but — the service. The staff just don’t seem to get the reason why they they are there — customers. And when you do attract their attention, they seem to make very hard work of it. They are not unfriendly, just like its always their first night. If you prepare yourself for slightly slow service and just relax, there is so much else about this pub that makes it very very good. Well worth a detour.

Nice people. Nice pub. Nice pints. Small. Friendly. Warm. Lovely. Around the corner from all the rest of the world and it’s right down the walk from my office. Authentic and local but there are approximately zero people wearing specs without lenses(or with lenses that don’t correct) trying to look like they’re 80s geeks when they’re not. Plus nice food. Which is all you can ask for in East London, innit?

It’s a bold statement(they’re sometimes the best though, right?), but this is the best pub in East London. Sure they’ve incorporated a bit of polish and a bit of wankiness into the mix, but the pub remains an intimate, hidden treasure that serves great food and drink and plays brilliant music. If there was an award for an award for the ultimate Sunday afternoon hangover pub, that rosette would be firmly pinned on the backside of The Camel. A favourite for all who know it I’m sure.

You would probably walk right past this pub if you did not read this. Well if you like good classic gastro grub instead of walking by you must pay this place a visit. Camel is known for its superb pies. It features such handmade gourmet pies as steak and chorizo or wild mushroom and asparagus. Deliciously served with buttery and creamy mash potato and minty mushy peas — absolutely incredible! The pies are free range and fresh, they are made and cooked on the day and really do taste of the good home cooking quality. They also serve a good choice of ales and a really good inexpensive choice of wines. The service is great, the place is small but cozy and the music is like old time jazz which fits the mood. Great pies, this place is a real find.

Posh Pie and Mash has arrived, without leaving a serious dent in your wallet! £8.95 buys you a super size plate of food comprising of pie, mash, minty mushy peas and a gravy boat to boot. It’s pie only with a great selection from the classic steak and kidney to goat’s cheese and spinach. It’s a small, warm and welcoming pub, with the smell of the buttery pies always leaving me salivating. There is a simplicity to the brown exterior tiles, an etched Camel mirror and archive shots prompt a mindful retrospective, while dark wallpaper with red roses and bronze spherical lampshades create a modish retro interior thanks to some recent refurbishment. The booze(Adnams and some continentals on draught, premium spirits and a decent chardonnay). A library of bizarre book titles and well fingered games sweetly descend on your Sunday downtime like a cosy knitted jumper.

The camel had a non-smoking policy before it became law and for that reason it was very popular with the non smoking masses. Since then it has managed to retain a good crowd of loyal regulars, who enjoy selecting from the extensive wine list. The layout is not that exciting, a bar, some tables inside and out, and sparingly decorated. The music is at a level, where you can still talk without having to raise your voice. The prices dictate you require a spare bit of cash to splash, which the clientele appear to have as that wine keeps coming off the shelves and into the glasses. If it is a good conversation you want after work, with a glass of fine wine and a friendly atmosphere, then the Camel will serve you well.
