We were here on a famished evening for some quick grub. The man on the counter was very grumpy for some reason and wouldn’t talk to us — even though there wasn’t a single customer. He just grumpily pointed to the tables. The waiting staff was sweet and warm albeit extremely clumsy. I ordered a chicken fillet burger, which was very good. Though when the waitress got the food, she dropped some of the side salad on the table and for some weird reason thought it was okay to put it back on my plate. Convenient place on the High Road for a quick hot bite.

I really wanted to like Catch because I love fish and chips and I love posh things. But I’m afraid to say the two don’t mix. On the plus side, Catch has more choice than your average chippy. You can order fresh tuna steak or lemon sole, which also make it healthier than average. On the sides menu they have garlic mushrooms and while I wouldn’t normally order mushrooms with chips, it’s nice to have the option, I guess. The place is incredibly clean and all fish is cooked to order so it won’t have dried out after sitting under the heated counter that you see at most chip shops. However, the chips taste too healthy. They’re chunky, which is good, but there’s none of the soft, greasy chippy goodness there — they’re too fluffy and light. Although I liked the lemon sole, I’m not sure it was worth £13. Halfway through I wish I’d ordered battered cod and I would have had enough change to pick up some prosecco at the sainsburys across the road. That’s the way to make fish and chips posher — by washing it down with fizz but not by making the chips tasteless and the fish less battered. I’m all into healthy eating and I don’t mind spending money on good quality food, but fish and chips is a comfort dish and should be ‘cheap as chips.‘ I’m giving this three stars because the food wasn’t bad, but it would have been better if it was cheaper and if they concentrated on doing the classics well rather than adding unnecessary dishes like lemon sole and garlic mushrooms.

‘The Catch’ is simply the BEST place for Fish & Chips in Chiswick. It has been around for a few years and has easily established itself the superior outlet to the more basic ‘Chris’s Fish Bar’ on Turnham Green Terrace and 2011 newcomer ‘The Codfather’(my 2nd Chiswick choice). The chips are good old fashioned chunky ones. The choices of fish are excellent and I have ended up trying some different ones rather than wait for a fresh batch of my faves, Cod & Haddock, to be fried up. Everytime I have eaten fish from here it has been filleted properly so no surprise bones! If you did want to eat in the atmosphere is quite pleasant and NOT a brightly lit«chav» style one you might expect from a chippy. It has to be said the only«Catch» is the high price for this type of food. The quality is excellent though. HIGHLYRECOMMENDED!

You get what you pay for here. It is expensive but it’s worth it. Every time i have been it’s always busy with people sitting down and people popping in and out for take away. A modern spin on a classic idea. A fish and chip shop for the 21st century

Since our hotel was down the street, we were told to walk this-a-way to get some eats. We were starving after an entire morning of trains and buses and just wanted something, fast, so that we could get started on cramming in some sightseeing before the sun went down. We stopped in here because it was one of a few places open in that area and it looked decent. As we were tourists, we really didn’t know good chips from bad, so we just asked the girl behind the counter what she recommended. She looked at me quizzingly as I asked how many pieces comes with it(read: I’ve only had fish n chips in the US where they come multi-piece). She said one. So anyway, for about 10 pounds, we got a huge order of fish and chips, and a side order of onion rings for a couple pounds more. We got it as take away and ate it in the park while watching people kick around a football. The fish was good and hot, the chips were delicious and the onion rings were awesome. It could’ve used a splash more vinegar over everything, and I was dying for some ketchup to complete the onion rings, but that’s like asking for ice in Paris. It just doesn’t exist. And for those visiting, just do take away, it’s cheaper, faster, and really, in Europe, there’s no shortage of parks and nice sitting areas.

Want posh fish and chips? eat in or takeaway? — The Catch is the answer but I would suggest not as the norm. Fish and chips to me means cheap and cheerful, you know what you are getting and it fits the bill at that time. This friendly and classy fish and chip«restaurant» is I think a little bit pricey but I guess you pay for what you get, I suppose and with a magic formula for the batter and fresh fish this place is certainly up to standard. They serve cod, haddock, skate, rock, whole sea bass, sea bream, dover sole, and plaice and you can have it grilled or in batter. They also offer their own batter, a recipe that gives the batter a bit more crunchiness and as they are a licensed restaurant they have a wide selection of quality wines available too. Top notch fish and chips if you can justify they £10-£15 price.
