I had a great night here but I think that has very little to do with the venue and much more to do with the company. It was £10 on the door on a Saturday night which might be par for the course in Shoreditch but seemed quite steep to me. The guy on the door was quite pleasant and chatty but the lady taking the money was pretty surly. Inside it’s a bit of a dive and was heaving. The downstairs room in particular was unbearably sweaty. The toilets were gross. I didn’t actually get a drink as after the £10 door charge I had no money left other than my taxi money, so I just drank tap water and danced. The music was mostly good — fun, cheesy tunes to dance to. One major downside was having to queue to go out to smoke. I understand this was health and safety related but it meant that we had to stand near a door like sardines, being elbowed in the face and groped by strangers. At one point the crowd surged forward, pushing me outside, while the bouncer tried to physically push me back inside. Not enjoyable. Although there was the comedy moment of my friend uttering the immortal words«the crowd has spoken» to the bouncer in order to be allowed outside. Speaking of shoving and groping, this place was packed with random lecherous dudes with no game. The type who just lurk next to your group hoping to muscle in. Or, in my friend’s case, the type who just silently come stand next to you and hold your hand. Or pat your arse as though they’re about to say«that’s Asda price». Ew. I wouldn’t really recommend this place, but if you’re desperate for a late night dance then it’s an option.

Pretty grim place, overpriced mediocre food, with slow service, one meal was cold, had clearly been sitting there for some time. Staff were pretty off-hand, made you feel like a burden for being there. Good location, but you can do so much better in Shoreditch. Would recommend people try elsewhere if you’re getting food.

I’ve been twice, both times a Saturday night. Both times it was RnB and people were dancing upstairs and downstairs. I like it. Free to get in so a good place to go after a couple of bars when you want somewhere to dance.

Met a friend here on a Friday evening for a quick drink before heading on elsewhere. When you enter it seemed like your average loud and sticky bar. The music they were playing was really strange and basically sounded like the soundtrack you have in Superdrug(badly sung pop-covers because they don’t want to pay for the originals). We then ventured downstairs where the DJ was shouting into his microphone and his mate was in the middle of the dance floor creeping on women. Bad experience I will never bother with again!

Great little place, ultra conveniently located. It has a warm feel and very friendly staff. They host comedy nights and live music which can be quite entertaining. The menu offers very good quality bar food. As it is centrally located and easy to find, it is a useful spot to catch up with out of town friends who don’t know the area. I recommend checking out the website for their food and drink deals which include very reasonably priced happy hour drinks.

I’m pleased to report the liquor pour here is generous, unlike the rest of London pubs which use a mechanical device to ration alcohol like the world supply is finite and no more can ever be produced.

It strives to be a lot more than it is. People say it’s a great place for a night out. I disagree. Both times I’ve been here, I’ve been disappointed. The drinks are not strong, the music ranges from I don’t know to I don’t know. The staff is rude as well. Move down the road to other Shoreditch venues for a good time.

Ended up here a little randomly on a Sat night. When we first arrived, there weren’t that many people and some tables had families sitting down for dinner. We didn’t try any of the food. My friend said her cranberry and vodka was weak but I was happy with my beer. We started upstairs and went downstairs where there was more seating and another bar. The downstairs was interesting. Strange décor and lighting and random music, mostly pop and oldies. When we went past the upstairs again to leave the DJ was spinning and it had become packed! People upstairs were trendier, more hipster and younger than the crowd below. All in all, a fun night and I’d stop by again if I’m in the area but would not make a trip especially to come here.

One of the stops on a mini-pub crawl on a Friday night, I found The Corner Shop to be very Shoreditch. It gets very crowded on the weekends, with a DJ and lots of people in the central dance area. We were checked for weapons on our way in(which was um… interesting?) but we found the interior to be quirky and well decorated. The pubbers that night were fun, friendly, and not at all as frightening as the pat-down suggested. The music was loud and well mixed and there was a great selection of booze. Despite being packed, we had no trouble getting up to the front of the bar and getting our pints. The staff was very nice and the relaxed atmosphere made for a great pub stop!

Cracking lil place if you’re looking for a chilled out place with good music on a Saturday night. Drinks are average for the area; £5(a single shot and mixer), but the crowd are pleasant and the staff more so. The toilets were in clean wprking order but no soap dispensers means I’m dropping a star from my overall review. Not tried the food but hope to do so in the future.

A great place for a pint! Friendly staff, good pizza and nice décor. Monday nights are a great night to check out The Corner Shop because they hold a weekly open mic. The musicians are usually great!

Good like corner pub. Stopped in to have a beer and watch some sports. They had rugby on, which is close to NFL. Smelled a little old and place was definitely a drinking establishment. Staff was friendly and they had a decent selection of beers, including London Pride. Not too bad to grab a pint and a game.

Best Pub in Shoreditch. Staff is super friendly and extremely fast. The food is tasty and high quality. Used to go there every now and then after work, it’s a great place to relax and to meet new people(especially when theres football on tele).

En-route to the bus stop from Columbia Road, laden down with more flowers than a Dutch barge, I suddenly found myself regretting that pint of water I’d downed before leaving the flat. I popped in to the Corner Shop for a loo break and ended up hanging out for the better part of an hour, nursing the cup of coffee which I’d been obliged to buy in return for using the services. Can’t complain, though — it’s a cool joint. The décor is great and kept distracting me from my book. Considering I’m usually the sort of person who shoots death lasers from my eyes when people interrupt me mid-read, that is some pretty impressive interior design. The loos deserve a mention, with the cubicle doors decoupaged in old magazines(giving a hefty nod to flower-arranging, perhaps due to the proximity of the aforementioned market). The sofa looked a lot more comfortable than it actually was, but I found the sweet spot. I didn’t eat anything, although several plates wafted past and looked extremely appetising. Although it was a very pleasant way to while away my Sunday afternoon, it’s nonetheless annoying that they wouldn’t just let me use the facilities since I’m pretty sure — somebody with proper law knowledge step in if I’m mistaken — that any public house is legally obliged to allow non-patrons to use their toilets for free. But they’re not the only ones to turn away a desperate woman in her hour of need(hmm, biblical). Also they served the coffee — which was fine, but nothing special — in a tin cup that burnt my fingers, so it was typically Shoreditch i.e. achingly cool with a vintage vibe but utterly impractical and oblivious to discomfort. I was going to score it a four but then I realised my generosity was more to do with the fact that I fancied the barman, even though he was a Hoxton trendy, so I knocked it back down to three. I’ll return at a later date to test out the evening ambiance and maybe I’ll get a date and they’ll get a fourth star(but frankly it’s either both or nothing).

I’m gonna go ahead and give The Corner Shop four stars, because I feel it deserves a bit higher of a rating. Not the most cheap spot, but have great food and a nice selection of beer. Can be a but loud/crowded at times, so not the best spot if you’re there for dinner and well-heard conversation. But the atmosphere is nice and conveniently located on Shoreditch High Street.

We popped in here last Sunday as we were walking about Shoreditch and needed some food(and a drink). Great place, was surprised it wasn’t busier! Since we were trying to cure a bit of a hangover we opted for a cheeseburger and BBQ chicken burger. Portions were huge, just what the hangover doctor ordered. The chips were homemade handcut and delicious. If you’re in the need for a good burger in Shoreditch, I highly recommend. The bar staff were exceptionally nice!(they also do pizzas so good for a bite to eat before a big night out).

I’ve been to The Corner Shop on two occasions, both on a busy Saturday night but the first visit was better than the second, though the latter was my recommendation to come here inbetween going to other Shoreditch drinking spots so I felt a bit bad. On that occasion we didn’t have a bad time — infact a really good one — but things seemed to fall a little short compared to the first visit. On the first visit though the service was a lot better and we ate too, the pizza my friend and I shared — it was like a platter! — was delicious and really filling. I would return but only ever as a inbetween other venues as previously. For the now over trendy Shoreditch location it could do and be better.

The Corner Shop is a bit of a strange one — Its a large spacious pub/bar situated where the Jam used to be on the corner of Old Street and Shoreditch High Street. Its one of those places that seems to have potential but hasn’t really settled on an identity just yet. It looks like it is going for the ‘living room’ theme but the room is so big it feels more like a warehouse. In a way, it seems like they have been opened before they have finished decorating with the odd patch of bare plaster on the wall(perhaps this is just some new trendy form of interior design that I have yet to become aware of??) The bar staff were friendly but seemed inexperienced. They didn’t know what flavour vodkas they stock and seemed to struggle with the concept of a Baileys Coffee even though its included in their drinks menu. I didn’t eat here so can’t comment on the food but the menu suggests that they specialise in pies. I’m not sure how long this pub has been open but I guess its not been long, maybe they will slip into their stride given a little time…
