There was chant of «get em off, get em off» from the barmaid as we entered the pub. Unfortunately it had nothing to do with our arrival, we just turned up at the perfect juncture for out of context amusement. This is a nice shop conversion and I’ve had some decent beer here previously. Unfortunately on this occasion the Waggle Dance actually smelt and tasted like lager. Although it was only me who thought so, so I may have been having an ‘episode’

I haven’t written a review on Qype for a while, but after visiting The Garden Ladder for a late Saturday afternoon lunch a few weeks ago, I was so impressed, I thought it time to put finger tips to keyboard to add comment on this fine local«Wine» bar! We’ve lived in the area for just over 4 years, and although I’m ashamed to say it, we’ve only been to The Garden Ladder a few times. I’d heard Sunday lunch was definitely«The Ladders» forte, however I can now wholeheartedly recommend Sat lunch/dinner! Four of us were dining and we all chose from the rather extensive pie menu. Now me being a northern girl, I love a good pie and these my friends, are fine pies! Steak and Guiness, Stilton and broccoli, Lamb and Mint, and Pork and apple were our pastry choices. Cunningly we all chose a different filling so we could compare and contrast(and of course taste!) each others. I always find sharing food adds a sense of fun to eating out and with a hearty pie, creamy mash or thick cut chips, mushy or fresh garden peas there was plenty to share and still feel full! The girl serving was really friendly, attentive and on hand to recommend which local ale(or two) we should try with our food(order at the bar for food). On the Sat we went, the Ladder had an Ale festival promotion and is something, I believe, they run quite often. Well worth trying out the range of Ales, even for the chance to say you’ve tried a local tipple brewed in Tottenham! The ladder wasn’t busy when we were in, but as we visited around 3pm on a Sat, this wasn’t such a surprise. The interior makes for a relaxed feel and even when there was only two tables of folks eating(us and one other), it had a warm, welcoming atmosphere. I didn’t go for the 5th star as I’ve always felt the interior is a funny mix of contemporary and modern wooden furniture, but it just doesn’t feel like they’ve got the look and feel quite right. A few changes here and there and this would be a 5 star local recommendation. Give it a try for a chilled bite to eat with friends or family. You may just like it :-)

Interesting place, this. A real-ale bar that could easily be mistaken for a trendy café. Or is that a trendy bar-café that serves real ale? It looks to have had a recent makeover, and the décor is as hard to categorise as the venue itself, though not unpleasant: modern, big-print wallpaper, lots of mirrors, polished wooden floor, some strange ‘ladder’ tables and subtle lighting. The bar area looks like it has come from a different venue, with a funny long light box of red and bright green perspex windows. All hard to put your finger on, but it feels trendy without being too painful, and results in a relaxing sort of vibe. After this, the good selection of real ales comes as a real(but very pleasant) surprise; Wadworth’s Bishop’s Finger and Courage Directors amongst others. Efficient service, a good range of bar snacks, and food(though I’ve not eaten here) completes the bill. Nice, modern and clean gents loos, too: in fact, the first bar I’ve ever been in with almond scented hand-wash. Nice /interesting clientele — one chap engaged us in conversation about the ‘eclectic décor’, which is not your average pub talk. This is all very different, to me, but I could see how this could grow on you…

Converted from a rather grotty Indian restaurant a couple of years ago. Directors is the house beer, two other handpumps dispense alternate guest beers, beers are well kept but not very adventurous. The food is good, modern British, curry night is Monday, selection of roasts on Sundays. All in all a great little venue, easily the best on Green Lanes, but if they upped the ante on the real ales it would merit four stars, maybe even five.

Not many pubs in Green Lane that fit the bill but The Garden Ladder is a really good pub! Small and unassuming with friendly staff and a nice mix of customers. Food is cooked fresh and their Sunday roasts are great. Music is played from the bar PC — challenge you to find someting they don’t have. There is a small decked area to the rear which is great in the summer. They have a good range of drinks and also guest ales which are always in tip top condition. The only downside is that it doesn’t open until 4pm on weekdays! Blame the recession. Otherwise a great place to feel at home and easily meet new people from the area or have a quiet drink on your own, papers always available and a window to boot to watch the world go by.

used to drink in here a lot, but seem to have gone off it a bit recently. The food is still great, and fantastic value for money, but it seems to be lacking something. Maybe the reintroduction of Open Deck Night and Open Mike Night might be a good idea. The staff are friendly and I love the smoking area, though it can get a bit crowded at times. The cocktails are excellent :)

The Gareden Ladder is a recent addition to the barren pub land of Harringay, it scrubs up pretty well but could do better. The place is friendly, quiet at times, serves good food and all the drinking requirements are catered for. The Garden Ladder is a perfect place for a quiet afternoon drink and chin wag, a large party would pretty much fill the place. There is a sofa at the front for the idiots who like that sort of ‘friends’ nonsense otherwise there is plenty of seating. In my opinion the seats are far too big and give off an ‘Alice In Wonderland’ feel. The lighting is also dead weird, there is something unfamiliar about it that can deaden the atmosphere a little. You may well encounter our East European brothers drinking their body weight in vodka but they’re very friendly. So part bar, part restaurant, brasserie, pub whatever,; there are no real faults with Garden Ladder just no startling positives. Worth visiting if you’re in the area.

Friendly local brasserie which serves good traditional food(think roasts, bangers’n’mash), imaginative specials menu and a fair selection of alcohol. Relaxed and cosy, there are tables or sofas depending on your mood. Never too busy its a great place to spend a Sunday afternoon.
