This society does exactly what it says on the sign on the door, and membership is reserved for geologists. However, they do allow their neighbours at the Royal Academy of Arts to use their auditorium, and this is how I made my way into these hallowed halls. The talk I intended was interesting, but I won’t rush back for more. The experience felt a bit like a timewarp, i don’t think the interior has been upgraded in decades. The place has an intimidating feel to it and is not very inviting — just the way institutions with a Royal prefix used to feel like. Despite its impressive address it is easily overlooked and ticket staff at the RA could not give directions.
