We really enjoyed getting the pub experience in this great historical place. Food was all good, I had the steak and ale pie and my wife had fish and chips. My only complaint is that my wife ordered the king prawn cocktail for my daughter and they were small shrimps. We told the waiter and he told us these were king prawns. We did not want to argue, but I would have liked if he would have just said we ran out and this all we have… That would have been fine.

Lovely experience! Ordered some baguette and was surprised to have it served freshly warmed and crisp from the oven. Wonderfully accommodating staff as well — made our custom dirty martinis even though they don’t typically make them. Absolutely recommend this pub!

Love a good traditional English pub. Love the environment and the setting. They use lots of random currency notes to stick on walls as wall paper, you can definitely play a game of spot the currency with your plans while having a good pint. Food was quite good but it took quite a while to come. We waited for 1hr 15 minutes before our food for 7 to come, and the day wasn’t that busy. I was sooo hungry by the time food came. The only other complaint is that the beer was a bit warm. Not the ‘cold’ beer I prefer.

Cold chips. So so burger. High prices. Nice alley. Good service. Lots of money on the walls. Not really worth it. Just my opinion though.

As The Park Tower Knightsbridge has become my home away from home lately, it makes sense that I would need a new local bar to call home as well. Big thanks to the Unilocal community for helping me find this place, but also thanks to Google Maps for managing to actually guide me there. Other reviewers have given the directions down pat, but do note that once you turn into Old Barracks Yard, you’re going to be right at the service exit for The Berkeley hotel, so you might do well to stay on the sidewalk by the office building. Now — on to the venue itself. It’s a Taylor Walker establishment, so you can expect a good experience in general, but The Grenadier staff manages to be discreet yet attentive. The bar staff help with clearing plates in the main dining room, but order taking and looking after the customers falls on a very friendly gentleman named Paul. After only a few visits, he’d taken to looking after me, opening up reserved tables when I’ve come in for a late dinner and suggesting meal options that I’ve roundly enjoyed. Food recommendations — for starters I’d say either the foie gras or the French onion soup. The soup isn’t heavily-caked with cheese, and is actually quite a nice light start here. For the meal itself, I’ve had and been okay with the fish & chips, but would strongly suggest the shepherd’s pie or especially the lamb pie, which comes with a choice of starch and vegetable as sides. Their fries(ahem…chips) are better than the mashed potatoes, as the latter are fairly bland and require some heavy addition of salt & pepper. On the beer front, I’ve seen some changes in their taps over time, but I generally tend to order London Pride if they have it. That seems to be one of the downsides to such a small yet popular venue, as I’ve had to choose a second and sometimes a third beer given how quickly they seem to run through their supply. On the other hand — you can be sure that you’re not going to get beer that’s been sitting there for any overly long period of time. My only complaint here has to be about the time the kitchen closes. According to Taylor Walker’s own website, the food serving times are from 1200 – 2200. I’ve walked in at 2132 and been told that the kitchen closed at 2130, and after having had this happen for 2 days in a row(the prior day was at 2140), I asked for Paul and he was good enough to accommodate my request for a late after-work dinner. Still — it would be good to know when guests who show up can expect to be served, and when they should plan to go elsewhere. Prices aren’t terribly expensive as a New Yorker, and I look forward to many returns to this quiet and secluded gem.

A former resident of the mews told me about this pub and said it was fabulous, so I took a break between the V&A Museum and the Natural History Museum to head on down for an early dinner. Being tucked away in a residential area makes it a little hard to find but it was worth it. It definitely fulfilled my need for a proper English pub and for some delicious fish and chips. You could tell this was a popular local spot and most of the people in there were friendly. Next time I get across the pond I will have to stop on in again and try some of their other dishes.

The beef wellington was good, but overcooked on the ends. The fish and chips will not be a repeat order. The batter was great, but the cod was definitely farm raised and had a mush like texture. French fries, who can mess that up. They were thicker«steak fries» style. The bill all together was reasonable, but the prices are definitely not consistent and somewhat odd. 25 pounds for beef wellington, 5.65 pounds for a London Pilsner and 9.70 for 2 Kronenbourg 1664 lagers. Very odd indeed. The pub however was great and definitely off the beaten path. Cool place.

Stopped over here for a late lunch. The place is very cute, somewhat hard to find. Has a very nice old school feel, classic pub in an area which doesn’t have too many. The beer selection was decent, the prices were reasonable. The service was a bit slow at times. We got some food, none of which was particularly good, but it was edible.

I found this place on Unilocal. It is a couple of blocks down from Buckingham Palace hidden from Main Streets. We didn’t have a reservation but they still have a table for us around 8 o’clock. It has a very comforting ambience no stupid televisions. Very warm and friendly staff with the a lot of local patrons. The food like pictured is amazing. Simple dishes, ingredients, delicately cooked. My husband ordered a fish and chips i had the beff pie. I even ordered a crème brûlée that was pretty yummy. I highly recommend eating here! It is everything that you would want in authentic British pub and more.

5 star for experience. Felt I was stepping back in time to what I’d imagine pubs were like in the olden days. No music. No tvs. Just a small cramped place with friends all celebrating another victorious day of work. It was an amazing people watching place as well– so many interesting people that seemed to have interesting stories. We too felt that we were going to be kicked out and not welcome because it is a locals place. By the end, everyone had warned up to us Pacific NW-erners. The waiter even smiled! 4.5 star for food. The sweet potato fries and beet salad were amazing. The burger was to die for. Fish and chips were good(more oily than I have had) and the beef Wellington was good(wanted to try). Maybe I’m not a fan of fried food and rare meat so I am a bit biased. I’m sure if you love rare meat, their beef Wellington seemed like it was authentic. No one on our table loves to eat cow’s blood. We had an amazing evening. Service was as expected in a pub. They forgot drinks, never filled our waters, didn’t check in often… Yet that was the charm of the place. The money with people’s signatures all over the walls added to the overall experience. It was good times. I would highly recommend it for the experience.

Not scared to see this place being discovered because it is so hidden, it will stay the same. In the heart of a very busy city section, you find this gem bar, at the end of a mews. The walk there is a thing on its own. After a few turns and loops to find it, you stumble upon this small, traditional, very cute pub you can reach after a flight of stairs. There is no music just a peaceful crowd a descent selection of beers and whiskies. Friendly staff, peaceful patrons, nice space outisde in a completely silent dead end road. MMH, very very nice place. I will go back for drinks, and maybe for food as well, who knows.

I was not pleased with our experience here. Granted, it is a pub and we did arrive later in the evening, but still. Not good. I ordered a veggie burger and asked for the onion rings on it to be on the side — since they’re deep fried. After waiting about 20 minutes my husband’s burger came out and I got a side salad and a side order of onion rings. I asked where my veggie burger was and the guy looked all surprised. So apparently that was a screw-up. He came back about 10 minutes later and said it would be out shortly. Meanwhile, my hubs ate his burger as I told him not to wait. We were STARVING after spending all day walking around London and this is the place he wanted to eat so he chose it online based on the reviews from Unilocal and the photos as well as the menu that seemed to have a few healthier choices for me. We didn’t see any of that on the menu we were provided so all I could do was choose a veggie burger. When my burger finally did come out — it had been deep-fried. Which made me sad because it looked like it would’ve been delicious — I could see pieces of veggies inside but I broke a piece off with my fork and grease dripped out. I wanted to cry. I simply told my husband I wanted to leave immediately. We didn’t say anything — paid and left — so it was about $ 18 for that veggie burger I waited 40 minutes for and didn’t even eat. I understand it’s a pub — but deep fried veggie burger?! Come on.

I debated writing this review for a while, as the more I rate it, the more people will go to it. This is my favourite pub in London and it is my «go to pub» if I have a friend coming to visit. The reason for this, is its location, it is so close to Hyde Park Corner but to get there, you can go two routes, the boring route round the front or the secret route. The secret route means walking along Knightsbridge and turning left down Old Barrack Yard I think, following it round, past some bins to a secluded mews and down to the pub. Every person I take down the alley… always thinks I may be lying or they won’t be coming out. The pub itself is steeped in history, look on the walls for the amazing pictures, there’s one painting that took so long to paint by the time they’d finished most people in the picture had gone into battle and died. There are also ghost tours that visit this place as it is supposedly haunted…

One of my favorite pub meals in London! Loved the fish and chips. Lightly battered and without the skin. A quintessential British pub. Well worth the effort to find it. Beware– no AC and we happened to be there on London’s record-breaking hottest day ever.

Great spot tucked away in a quite neighborhood — even walking to the pub is a treat. Can either stand outside with a drink in hand or sit at the bar. The inside is quaint and charming — a very old school appeal. Appear to have lots of locals during the lunch hour. Great customer service as well. We had the fish & chips of course — fairly average, but not bad. And for a girl who doesn’t care for peas, I definitely recommend the mash peas vs the garden ones — pretty darn good! It was the perfect spot for lunch.

This pub is spot on perfect! Tucked away in a beautiful little street, it’s the best place for a refreshing pint, delicious pub food, and a friendly vibe! I wandered in hungry for dinner and they squeezed me in, in-between reservations. I had the pie of the day(chicken, bacon, veggies), with sweet potato fries and peas. OMG everything was so good! The pie was piping hot, the pastry was perfect and the filling was divine. The portion was quite generous(if that’s something that’s important to you). The sweet potato fries were awesome. The wait staff was super nice and I thought it was great how much fun they were having together and with their guests. The pot pie of the day(and their whole menu) is a really good value for the price. So glad I found this gem! Go! Go now!

This is a jewel! I almost don’t want to talk about it, because otherwise you’ll go too! Beckham’s, Angelina Jolie and Co. can’t be wrong… The owner shakes her hand when she came to the kitchen to say her Thanks! Get the meat pie of the day! Amazing! Veggies on the side– not inside– so actually packed with delicious, tender meat! Secret find! Don’t tell anyone! Ah and for those that read complains: yes it is popular and crowded when you come here at a busy day or when EVERYONE wants to eat! Reserve a table! Easy as that! They don’t ignore you– they’re simply super busy when you go here Saturday night 8pm. It’s small– just 10 ish tables and a bit more at the bar area. Don’t be surprised if you get to a great place and it’s packed…

Do you want to wow your entourage with an awesome secret pub around Hyde Park Corner? Yes, I am sure you do. We all do. The Grenadier is hidden at the back of an alley, you can access it through a tiny door, or a private road. But the locals know it, and a few tourists as well — because this place is awesome. A very typical, cosy and homey pub with really nice food and nice atmosphere. I highly recommend their pies. Ooh, their pies are scruptious! Small minus star goes for the service. The experience would have been so much nicer with a smile.

Hard to find and well worth it. The Grenadier, tucked down the alley, is a small pub, typical of what you would expect. The best part is the fact that it’s no on the High Street so unless you know it’s there, you would not stumble upon it, keeping it local. With dark woods and small tables, this is a pub that time has forgotten. The food is on par with the rest of your experience and pairs perfectly with a pint. There’s nothing special about The Grenadier and that’s actually what makes it perfect. It’s exactly what you want it to be. If you’re looking for a cozy pub filled with locals and good food.
