I’ve been to some Whetherspoons which have had great staff and surprisingly excellent, great value food. However, this is sadly not one of them. We were hungry and were looking for a quick, cheap meal in East Ham but we didn’t fancy Indian. So, The Miller’s Well it was. We started by ordering a couple of drinks off the Miller’s Well menu on the bar. I saw they did cheap cocktails so asked for the Porn Star martini from the list. ‘We don’t do that here’ said the barman. I thought it was odd when it’s on their menu but ordered a glass of wine from the list. Again he said that they don’t do that there. Finally I got a glass of chardonnay but it was quite vinegary. We ordered burgers and then 5 mins later we were told they only had one beef burger so we changed one to chicken. The chips were good, the onion rings were excellent but the burgers were a huge let down. The chicken was tough, dry and actually inedible in places. I know not to expect a lot in whetherspoons but this was particularly bad, especially the way the barman spoke to me as if I was stupid for asking for drinks that were actually on their menu. I’ll definitely stick to the fantastic Indian restaurants in the area in future.

Pints here are cheaper than the rest of London, around three quid. If you’re trapped in Barking for some reason or looking for a cheap piss up after a West Ham game without a crowd, this is your place. About Barking, I started chatting with a local, after a minute he asks, «You’re American? You came all the way to London and you’re in Barking. Why the hell are you in Barking?». That sums up Barking.
