Good location, decent selection of booze and if you can get in the beer garden it is a nice place to sit. Is downstairs is really busy most nights, but often if you pop upstairs there are tables free. The food is a bit disappointing so I wouldn’t go back for food, but a nice stop off for a pint on the way home.

On a lark(hehe), the wife and I hit up the Mudlark while our bike tour was breaking for lunch. After muddling through an order at the bar(we’ve only been in the UK for a day, but every meal we’ve had has featured some sort of French waitstaff) that almost resulted in two burgers, a lamb pie, and no beer(instead of a lamb pie, burger, and a beer), we settled down and I enjoyed a pretty decent pour of a nice pale ale I picked at random. While the beer was good, the food was the real star. I had the peri peri burger, which was nicely done and loaded with spicy peri peri chiles. Delicious! The wife had the lamb shank pie, which featured a shank bone sticking out of a puff pastry. Once the pastry was pieced, there was a very tender hunk of lamb shank underneath, resting in some warm and hearty broth. Well done! While our meal was quite random, we were very satisfied with it and we’d go there again if we found ourselves down by the docks!

The hubster and I originally wanted to eat lunch at Borough Market, but because we were cold and wet after riding around in the rain for 2 hours on a bike tour and knew we would have 2 more hours to go afterwards, we took the recommendation of our trusty bike tour guide. Yes, we were cold, wet, and hungry, but I was thoroughly surprised by how good the food was. I had the Lamb Shank Pie, which was a real treat. The crust was nice and flaky, and the shank bone was just peeking out of it. Inside the pie, the broth was tasty, the lamb shank fell nicely off the bone, and the the green beans were a nice light addition. At the half(hubs and I always switch our plates halfway throughout the meal), I got to taste the hubs’ Peri Peri Burger. It looked like a typical burger, but boy was I happy to take a bite out of it! The roasted chilies, meat, and bun were a perfect combo! I would definitely come back the next time we are in the area. The question is whether the Lamb Shank Pie or the Peri Peri Burger wins. I’ll save this tough decision for later!

Typical olde English pub, good ales, nice heated garden. Came here on a stag night, was a bit pricey but a good start to the evening.

An excelent pub, if a little commercial but with a small range of very interesting beers, plenty of room to sit outside and a very ordinary menu. It’s right at the foot of London Bridge and very convenient after a hard shop at Borough Market.

This was the venue for a Unilocal UYE a few weeks ago when we introduced to the lovely Josephine B as one of our new London CMs. Not being familiar with the area, I did struggle a bit to work out how to get down to the lower level from London Bridge — unlike the smart Katie B who asked someone, I just went the long way round! It was crowded on the ground floor and despite my best efforts to recognise people from Unilocal profile photos, no one looked familiar. Just as I was heading back to the front door, I bumped into Katie B and between us, we still couldn’t see anyone who we recognised! Just as we were about to be puzzled out, Katie spotted some stairs and we found the rest of the Unilocal gang upstairs, including visitors Vinny from Philly and Gemma G from Brighton. There was a reasonable range of non alcoholic drinks and unlike the hustle and bustle of downstairs, it was quiet upstairs and great for nattering as Unilocalers do. The Mudlark was a good venue for our UYE

Oh what larks! I stood on the bridge looking down at The Mudlark with one thing on my mind…“How the hell do I get down there?!” After asking a very busy-and-important looking suited lady(London Bridge — you know the type!) who treated me with the exasperation you would a naughty toddler I was shown the steps just to the right of where I was stood. Hmm, blonde moment! But never mind, I was one step closer to a glass of vino! The Mudlark is pretty small but there is ample seating with a ground floor and first floor bar and lovely little beer garden/patio down the side. In fact I think the first floor is usually reserved for dining but as there was a large group of us they had reserved us a table up there. I didn’t try any of their food so can’t really comment on that but the wine was cold and that was good enough for me. An enjoyable evening due to the wonderful company, although not much of an atmosphere upstairs in the dining area and so quiet that it was noticeable if anyone raised their voice even slightly. I wouldn’t go out of my way but if I wanted a quick drink and was in the area I may pop in again. In summary — meh!

Hmmm. Quite a lot of space downstairs, including a decent-sized beer garden in this traditional-styled pub. Some unusual guest ales too. But the ale upstairs that I’d recommended so enthusiastically to a visiting American was off and the burger I ordered was nothing special. I might hang out downstairs next time.

An ok traditional style pub. Downstairs is a bit more modern and has a big nice heated outdoor area for smoking. Upstairs is more traditional, it has 1970s style wallpaper, carpets, tables and chairs, but was playing loud dance music last night. Quite a good atmosphere whilst I was thre(from about 7 – 9 last night).

I was in London on a holiday in the middle of winter when a friend and I stumbled upon this place as we were lost and hiking along the Thames in the evening trying to make our way to the London Bridge tube station. Because we were in a contrary mood from being so hungry and didn’t know how much further we’d have to go we decided to stop in for dinner. I’m glad we did. I had the fish and chips with a pint of London Pride ale and it was such a great meal. The fish and chips were crisp and flavorful and the London Pride ale gave me the perfect buzz that had me floating for the next hr after I had finished my meal. Such a memorable meal.

#2 on the London Bridge to Tower Bridge DW ale trail is The Mudlark. What is a Mudlark? I still don’t really know.(I’s pretty sure it’s a bird though) A little hidden because it’s below and over from London Bridge but that only adds to how wonderful of a pub this is. Its got great outdoor seating with heap lamps and enormous umbrellas. The inside is smallish but full of warmth that makes me wish I lived closer to this area. They serve this green looking beer, at first you think something’s wrong with it but it tastes great. When the sun shines here in London the lighting inside is fabulous, bright airy without the chill from the nearby Thames. The ladies is near the entrance which was a little confusing and they have an upstairs but I wasn’t able to check it out. Most of the menu/beer list is the same as the other Nicholson’s. Yet I would love nothing more than to constantly spend every Saturday afternoon enjoying a pint with someone. Who it’s owned by doesn’t stop me from seeing what the building has to offer me in regards to atmosphere. Not too sure how busy it gets after work hours or in the evenings, I think this place is awesome so I’m guessing those time have it packed with people. A great place to stay, relax, and enjoy yourself in a truly cute little pub!

This pub is great for a swift after work drink. They have a selection of draught beers and constantly changing real ales for the beardies. There is generally a nice atmosphere here and quite a large seated area out the back. The staff are top notch too. The only downsides are the small bar which when busy can be a pain to get served at and the lack of crisps. They do bar snacks buy they are way overpriced. Oh and prepared for annoying bell ring practice on Wednesday’s from Southark Cathedral. Overall a mice quaint pub.

You know what? This pub is actually fantastic. Centrally located but off the beaten path, so not overcrowded. They have a lot of unique beers to choose from and their list is ever changing. I went on a two hour hunt for the perfect burger last night and my search ended at the Mudlark. I peeked in a lot of restaurant windows and checked a lot of menus and none of the other places sold me as they were either too expensive(for what you’re getting) or were piling too much crap on the burger. I just wanted a big juicy hunk of meat, man! So the Mudlark sparked my interest with £6.95 for the ‘regular’ burger and chips. The thing was gigantic and OH. MY. GOD was it good. So good. So so so good. Perfect. We had a great table off in a corner, and even though the place was jammers we didn’t have to raise our voices to hear one another. The bar staff were friendly, the pub was clean and funky and the beer garden is huge, with lots of heat lamps. Basically you cannot go wrong.

This is a very popular pub just down some steps at the end of London Bridge(South Side y’all!). I’ve decided not to come here a couple of times recently due to just how busy it is. On a recent Saturday I decided not to let the crowds put me off and actually really enjoyed my time here. The service was quick despite the crowds, the ales were in good nick and although I am sure it is awful for the environment, the outdoor heaters double the amount of room for punters and there is something nice about being able to stand outside in this weather, particularly when you have the view of Southwark Cathedral that they have from here. There are better pubs in the area, but you’re doing alright if you end up here. The name comes from the 18th century term for child scavengers by the river. Nicolson’s pubs are growing on me after my early bad experiences with their grim toilets.

Large selection of sausages on the menu here and at a decent price considering its location. Pints at £2.50 too(London Pride a steal at £2) with a good selection of Real Ales. A place I’ll be keeping in mind for my next trip to London Bridge.

Small, traditional pub. Tucked away with a large outside smoking area with tables and heaters. Get’s quite busy on Thursday and Fridays but still a nice afterwork place to have a drink or 5. Because its quite well hidden you can usually get a spot to stand.

Ah, the Mudlark: the perfect spot for after-work drinks — within spitting distance of the city and London Bridge. Over the past couple of years I’ve lost many hours to the charms of its umbrella-ed in beer garden. If you want a seat, you need to get in quickly once people start leaving work — the Mudlark fills up quickly inside and out during the week, though at the weekend you’ll find you have the run of the place if you pop in. Sitting ouside you can enjoy the sounds of passing trains, and the view of the side of Southwark cathedral, while sampling the pots of bar snacks — pistacios and spicey rice puff things coming highly recommended.

I had a business meeting here the other night.(By this I mean getting drunk in a pub — were you fooled?) And it’s not too bad. We came here because the nice little wine bar over the road was closed(permanently? I hope not) and it’s alright. Nothing special about the pub itself, but it does have a really lovely outside section for warm summery evenings. It’s not an easy pub to find(down Nancy’s steps) so it wasn’t packed and it was the perfect place to chat with a beer or six. They did call last orders pretty early by our watches though and we missed our chance to get another beer. :-(
