We came here for a large Christmas lunch booking(although it was mid afternoon rather than actually at lunch time). The booking process and any updates all went smoothly and the staff were very easy to deal with. The actual location for where we had our lunch was a bit off though — it was in one of the alcoves downstairs, which was pretty dark, and meant that all 14 of us were sitting along one long table but in order for anyone to get up, everyone closer to the end of the alcove had to get up and move out so they could get past. They were obviously struggling at times with the numbers, as the starters came in batches. The mains were all fine, although compared to the copious amounts of food on the turkey mains, the cod loin mains looked tiny. I understand fully that the protein was obviously more expensive in that, but it seriously could have done with a couple more potatoes or more veg to bulk it out. The puddings were fine, most people got the salted caramel and chocolate torte which was a bit sickly towards the end, so I’m glad it wasn’t any bigger. But frankly for the price and the convenience of the location, it was perfectly fine and colleagues afterwards haven’t sad anything bad about it apart from the awkquardness of the alcove afterwards.

The best of the fish and chips we had in London. I had a great club sandwich knowing my wife wouldn’t be able to finish the fish and chips. We truly enjoyed the feel of this place and the great mix of people. The service was very good for the limited staff and I truly appreciated the sense of urgency they expressed for all of the diners.

Stopped here for a quick pint, on the way to the tube from St. James Park. They were closing at 5pm on a Saturday, which seemed odd, so for us, a very quick pint. Atmosphere was very cool, multiple levels and an extremely intimate basement area, with many small tables and coves everywhere. Seemed to be very versatile from the traditional pub, to an intimate date spot! Service was fine, nothing to speak about, and we didn’t try the food. I’d stop back for a snack or another beer — but as it stands, it’s a pretty average place to go — especially given the higher prices. Much higher prices.

Stopped in for lunch off the street. They were able to accommodate my party of 3(including baby in stroller). But — we did have to carry the baby in the stroller down a flight of stairs. Aside from the carrying down, then up stairs. A-OK. This place is only wheelchair accessible if you can get up one step and can be seated on the main floor. Food — meh… I ordered the falafel. The flavor was OK, texture — much softer than I’m used to, but whatever. The bread it was on was described as naan, but really it was that store-bought, highly processed, pre-made«naan» style bread — not good. I wouldn’t order it again. My friend ordered the barbeque pork wrap. She had the same opinion about the bread and mentioned that the pork wasn’t seasoned. She is more used to Memphis-style BBQ and this wasn’t that. I had a cider. I believe it was an Aspall. I’m bummed I can’t remember the brand now(two days later). I wasn’t informed which type of Aspall it was(if it was, in fact, an Aspall).

Great spot located right near St. James Park Tube station! Drinks on tap are great they also offer an American Goose Island IPA which I haven’t seen ANYWHERE in Europe!

Lots of cool nooks in which to sit & beer selections were good. I ordered the British Shredded Salt Beef Ciabatta which needed more beef(had mostly lettuce with beef added in rather than the opposite).

A fun pub for after work drinks. They also have a great area you can hire which is away from the rest of the hustle and bustle. Very nice staff. Drinks a little pricey but it is London!

A lovely establishment just across from the James’s Park tube station. Olde world charm with very nice plates to offer. I had the carrot soup with brown whole grain bread, and a pork pie starter with a tangy/sweet chutney. All was tasty and satisfying. But, I am getting tired of ordering a lemonade and getting 7Up :-) «true». A very nice respite. The waitress, Beata, was punky sweet with lime green hair, a matching headband, springy stars and a cute German accent.

We found this place after walking all day and it happened to be right by our hotel so we tried it out. It is a nice hipster casual pub like restaurant. Everyone was very friendly and the service was great. I ordered the mac and cheese and it was great but I wasn’t used to white cheddar. It was good though I just didn’t prefer it. The chips(fries) were great though! Definitely a nice place to have a quick bite or drink.

I was there during the Olympics and loved the basement coves especially. We don’t have pubs like this in LA with all those fun nooks and crannies. You can definitely find a quiet romantic spot downstairs. The service was good, but then again, we didn’t stay for a long time. It was just one of many stops along the way. Cheers!

Just okay. The staff was cold and slow. Didn’t really like the atmosphere. They are probably too hardened by the many tourists that frequent the place. I see no reason to return. I don’t want to discourage others, but the place is not my cup of tea.

I visited here for a table top game meet-up day. It was my first time at such an event, and I think the Old Star was a good venue for that sort of thing. Drinks were decently priced and the food was so-so(nothing terrible, but nothing great). A very good atmosphere and friendly service — a nice pub!

We stumbled upon this pub during our visit to London. I had been told the best fish and chips were found at The Golden Hind, but we thought The Old Star’s version tasted better. Maybe that’s due to our American palette, but the breading to us really packed a lot of flavor vs. the fish served at the Golden Hind. An unexpected treat: a group of guys came in for a pint dressed in various superhero outfits. Batman, the Riddler, Scooby Doo and a couple others I couldn’t identify drew amused stares from some of the patrons. We never did find out what that was all about, but it was amusing. We speculated that they were either coming from a bachelor party or they were participants in the upcoming London Marathon.

This charming pub has a nice, modern vibe. The Old Star offers an updated take on the classic pub! It’s fun and refreshing, catering to a younger more vibrant audience. I attended a private party here and was amazed by the large booths and the variety of «pub food». The Old Star is perfect for shying away from tourists and is a great place to enjoy a casual party or a chill night with close friends.
