Had the fish(Cod) and chips here and both were great! Didn’t think I’d be able to handle a large but once I had a bite, it wasn’t hard to finish it off. It’s a little hole in the wall but don’t let that stop you from checking it out. This is a must stop for foreigners that want to try authentic British fish and chips. I always tell anyone visiting not to get it at a pub but a real fish and chip shop.

It was a blustery sort of day in Greenwich, the kind where the sun is bright enough to tempt you outdoors but the wind reminds you it’s a long way til summer yet. Cravings for fish+chips struck so we did the obvious and Unilocal-apped our way to this place. It hit the spot just right — I had a medium cod and chips served ‘open’ to take away, so essentially a cone of chips wrapped in paper with the fish ungainly balanced on top. I liked the batter — light and crispy so you could really appreciate the fish without just getting mouthfuls of fried batter. The chips also nicely spanned the texture spectrum — a good mix of squishy soft ones with yummy crispy bits too. I liked that you could add your own salt and other condiments to your taste rather than them going crazy on it. The guys behind the counter were really friendly and it was nice to share a smile and brief chat too. Though from the looks on their faces I think I may have looked a little precarious with my cone! My date then had the treat of watching me eat the decent-sized fish whilst walking(not the most graceful thing I did in front of him that day… eek). With all the pretty places nearby I’d defo recommend taking out rather than eating in — we headed to the Cutty Sark and then strolled towards the river, taking a pit stop on a bench to concentrate on eating. It was a good value warming treat in the windy weather and the portion size was so generous I had trouble finishing it. Not that I needed to worry — my date managed to eat a large and still help me out!

I tried The Pier today and I must say that the food was good in general. I think the cod crust was a bit too oily and they might have put some more salad together with the fish and chips. Despite to this, the portion was generous, the food was tasty and the place very clean and tidy. I would recommend it.

We decided to take a Greenwich to visit the cutty sark. When we got there we were really hungry and this place looked really interesting. We weren’t disappointed the food was really tasty I had minced beef and onion pie and chips. Not very exciting I know. My mum had rock and chips. The latte was good too. Nice friendly helpful staff too 10⁄10

A friend of mine who grew up in England said I must order fish and chips from a shop and eat on the street in order to experience the real deal. I’d seen the meal at pubs around Cambridge and London but didn’t finally see such a shop until I visited Greenwich Village. With flocks of local families and teenagers in line for food and eating outside of the shop while waiting for the bus, it seemed to be popular in the area and fit the description my friend gave me. It lived up to expectation, as I could choose from a variety of affordable fried fish to go with the chips, and there were a few other British favs on the menu, like bangers and mash, but really nothing else and most customers did takeaway. I went with the classic cod, as suggested by the woman behind the counter. At a medium size for the fish and medium size for the chips(small wasn’t available), these were generous portions. In the traditional fashion, the dish was served in paper cone, and there was little grease that showed. The fish was incredibly fresh, juicy and flaky and the breading was well-coated and crisp. The chips were thick-cut and crisp on the outside while maintaining a soft consistency on the outside. This is the perfect quick, affordable, filling and authentically British meal!

I AMJUSTREVIEWINGTHECHIPS. Actually, I am just reviewing the large order of chips, «open,» with vinegar and salt, shared with the one I love while standing at the bus stop waiting for the #188 to Russell Square(in bright wintery sunshine after touring the observatory). I knew that this joint would have excellent chips because it was rammed with teenagers when I went in. Teenagers know their chips. And indeed these are hot, perfectly fresh, fluffy/creamy on the inside, and toothsomely crisp without. The small order is one pound seventy. The large is two pounds fifty. The large order was almost bigger than my head, and I wear a men’s size large hat. Soooo. For chip perfection: 5 stars. For value for money: 5 stars. For the perfect day in that lovely place? Well, Pier Fish Restaurant can’t take credit for that, but it probably worked in their favor.

On a dreary cold day, we stumbled in and I ordered the Haddock & chips… nothing like Fried goodness to brighten the day! Fish was cooked well, no excess grease drippings(same goes for the chips). One downside, the dish was served with the crappy pre-packaged Heinz Tartar Sauce. If they’re going to serve sauce, why not with one that is as good quality as the fish? Oh well, I stuck with the vinegar & lemon. Stellar!

I stopped in here because of the other positive reviews. My first impression was that it is sparkling clean! We were told to walk through to the seating area in the back. The only reason this place didn’t get 5 stars was because neither of the two waitresses brought us a menu for about 5 – 7 minutes. Once they realised, they took care of us and the food came out very quickly. We had two medium cod and chips. The fish was lovely and fresh and crispy. You could tell that the oil it was fried in was super clean. Same with the chips — there was a nice combination of crispy small chips and larger softer ones. The portions were very big. My daughter and I shared the medium. The bill was very reasonable and I’ll definitely be visiting again!

Mediocre fish and chips. Pretty dreadful scampi and chips. Services abrupt, rush and beyond rude. 2 waitress arguing amongst themselves. Heard complaints from nearby tables about speed of service and quality of food. Take away costumers seem to be given priority over seating costumers at the restaurant. Avoid if possible

Best fish and chips in Greenwich. Get the classic cod. Sprinkle some salt, pepper, whatever you please. Enjoy with fresh thickly cut chips. I think the real charm was the old-school paper cone wrapping. It really absorbed the oil well, and I felt assimilated into British culture. No, not really. But the fish and chips here is really good. One serving is a meal for me. If you’ve never been to England or tried real British fish and chips, get out of London and enjoy this place near the Royal Observatory. Or if you just really love fish and chips, this place would help heighten that affection.

Curious about the best chips in Greenwich? This is where you’ll find ‘em. It’s so simple in here. Come in(bit of a squeeze) order some chips, throw your own salt and vinegar over them(although, try not to throw it over your date’s sweater and in their eye — they won’t like it if you do that. Ooops) then pay about £1.20 and leave. Then you have a choice I guess — where to eat your yummy yummy yummy yummy chips? By the Cutty Sark looking at the boats? In the market watching the traders pack up for the day? On the way to the cinema? Or walking through the University grounds? Doesn’t matter where you go — the chips are aces.
