Newly renovated from being a rock bar, this pub is now a quiet squeaky clean local for people living around Stockwell. It was not particularly crowded when I went there on a Saturday night(thank god because I was quite hungover) so it was the perfect place to relax and play some board games(who else loves battleship?) without much noise or loud music. I think it is great place for people who find pubs a bit too rowdy and prefer quieter places where they can chill and have a chat with friends. If you live in the area it’s worth going in to check it out but if you are too far away don’t worry about giving it a miss.

This is a great place to go for a late night vibe. It is very atmospheric and the drinks are good value. There is a lot of live music played here too varying from heavy metal rock to reggae. And on the nights they don’t have a band the tunes are still pretty banging! It’s not everybody’s cup of tea — this is a grungy pub, but if you are looking for an alternative venue playing decent music(note: not current chart music) and some good drinks then get yourself over there.

This place has an awful reputation that is not entirely supported. The staff are nice enough, the selection of drinks are quite limited, the bathroom facilities leave a lot to be desired. The fact there is no kitchen is quite reassuring given the questionable hygiene standards. However, there is a charmingly post-punk aesthetic that is firmly upheld. A good place to go for a casual visit but not one to be frequented, on the basis of what is offered for the amount you will spend. A word of advice: hunt hard to find a seat that will not disintegrate.

Nice tunes, nice crowd, nice pints. What else? Cool art(essentially clever words to be printed on overprice t-shirts, but still, fun stuff). Doom bar. Generally a nice vibe. Just far enough from a Tube station(midway between Brixton and Stockwell, but on the Stockwell Road) to be relaxed. The sort of place & people you might expect to see equally at home in the pub at 2PM on a Tuesday as well as a Sunday. Not that that’s a bad thing. Maybe they work nights. Or weekends. Also. The roast. Damn fine. Fresh vegetables. Handmade lovely Yorkshire puddings. Nice(but not quite enough) potatoes. Enough beef. A litlte on the spendy side at £11 but I thought it was worth it. Downside? I’m afraid it might get all hip-sterical. But I have hope that it won’t. Authentic and lovely. Drink here.
