Waited 20 minutes for a half empty coffee. Staff attitude very hit and miss. Keep walking.

Very disappointing after the great reviews we’d read. No coffee available as the staff hadn’t turned up. We were offered juice which turned out to be bottled squash. The toast was burnt and the eggs benedict was served on toast instead of muffins with a mean portion of sauce. Won’t be returning!

What a great discovery this place has been. Located just round the corner from my new flat, this local coffee haven is a little corner of Australia. With Anzac biscuits and other delights on the coffee bar they are best known for their all day brunch. Simple food with great products produce describes it best. Free range eggs and locally sourced sausages, bacon etc really bring a touch of quality. As they expand they have been recruiting new staff and some are not brilliant truth be told. The upside though is at its route is all about great coffee which they nail every time. So for that I will stick with them.

Came here on a friends recommendation. Menu is a little limited if you’re not into eggs, but the coffee is worth the visit

We ended up here at about 2pm on a Saturday and was delighted to be one of only two sets of customers! So, obviously the service was super fast and the lady who took our order was super friendly. I ordered the Eggs Royale and it was perfect. Eggs were delicious and the hollandaise was spot on. My only issue was the massive pot I received for my tea was full and only had one teabag in it, which made for quite a weak brew. But the brownie more than made up for it on the side! This place is perfect for a café, not too showy, just does very tasty food with excellent service. I can’t comment on the coffee as I’m not a connoisseur myself, but it smelt wonderful in there. Just wished we lived closer — we’d be here all the time!

I have to admit I’m a little surprised by all the rave reviews. Went here last weekend and was pretty underwhelmed. It wasn’t awful, there are just a lot of better options out there. We won’t be returning.

My husband and I popped in for a mid day brunch last Saturday. The coffee was great, especially the deliciously yummy piece of brownie that accompanies it. Food was good and service was quick. The space was cozy and not at all crowded. Only complaint was the background music which was country. Would definitely recommend NEVER playing it.

Ok, first off, it’s a lovely café — Probably the best in Clapham/South Lambeth. Great coffee, great environment, and great food. Would recommend the Bullet Bang covered in their rocket fuel sauce! They roast their own beans too so the place smells delish. You get a little lump of a brownie with every coffee too, which is a nice touch. *(Edit) They have updated their opening times now(open til 5pm). Top notch café. Staff are very friendly and great food & music!

Another hipstery coffee shop with fancy coffee from all over the world claiming to be an Australian blend. Once I walked in I was greeted by a lovely girl who was very friendly(I was a little lost and looked for directions as Google maps failed me). We soon got down to business and I ordered my coffee without wasting time. Ok no more blabbing, down to business. Their coffee is good. It’s a stronger blend than Allpress and their coffee beans seem to have had a good swirl around the roaster. Bolder and nuttier than other places and definitely not Starbucks-burnt-blend. So far so good. The space was decent looking but it was overtaken by those people who sit at cafes all day and work on their MacBooks’. I just picked up a coffee and left. The brownies seemed very nice and I was ready to pick up a couple but then I realised I had to watch my waistline. All in all a good experience, slightly different from both the typical high street coffee shops and the overpriced wannabe trendy places of east London.

Definitely one of my favourite cafes in London. Chilled atmosphere, not pretentious, great coffee, great baking friendly staff. Haven’t tried the cooked breakfast menu yet but the food always looks very good and prices are really reasonable.

I didn’t expect anything special when I walked through the door. Ultimately, I had a good brunch, but I probably wouldn’t come across town for this. It may be a different experience for coffee and a brownie. I haven’t been to many places that make french toast how I like it in London, and unfortunately this place was similar to other places. It was a bit too bready and hadn’t been soaking in the egg for long enough. It also wasn’t crispy enough. However, the staff were amiable and there was a good welcoming atmosphere. I liked how there was Brooke Fraser playing in the background — reminded me of home!

Ever since the proper Kiwi barista with the cute smile left, the coffee hasn’t been as good. Not that the loss of said cute smile affects my judgment in terms of the quality of the coffee-making at this establishment, I assure you. Plus, last time I came for a takeaway long black, I waited for 15 minutes. 15MINUTES. The two baristas working were potentially the slowest baristas in the history of espresso machines. And no one even bothered to apologise. Dead to me.

I’ll agree with other reviews– great atmosphere, really friendly staff and delicious food, albeit a little pricey. I had a biscuit, a latte and a bagel for 8 pounds. I stumbled upon this place on accident when I had some time to kill and it was the perfect place to kill said time. There was free wifi and really great music piping in.

The Roastery is a cute little place located in the Clapham neighborhood of London. Great place to stop by for coffee and brunch! A friend and I stopped by for Eggs Benedict(with spinach) and a French Toast. Their french toast has Canadian Bacon and Bananas on it. Both were delish. Worth a stop by if you’re in the neighborhood. This place is super close to our flat, so was hoping it’d be unforgettably delicious but regrettably, I wasn’t too impressed with either the coffee nor the brunch menu. Whilst the café itself is quite small, its very warm and welcoming once you step inside and I suppose, the size is perfect relative to the location, especially if half of your clientele are just takeaway coffee buyers… I ordered the big vegie bang(roasted capsicum, tomatoes; sauteed mushrooms; wilted spinach and 2 eggs, cooked to your choice); my friend ordered the french toast with fruits, maple syrup and bacon(they ran out of bread at 2pm and substituted it with brioche which I absolutely adore but is perhaps too soft for french toast and therefore was rather soggy under the heave of the maple syrup and mushy bananas). My other friend ordered the meat alternative to mine(so lose the capsicums and replace with Moen & Son’s organic breakfast sausage & bacon). We ordered some coffees and fruit smoothies. Frankly my flat white and friends’ macchiato came out tasty really funny. The coffee tasted a little sour and really thick on the palette. Service was wonderful though and the staff were quite attentive and polite, albeit our food took a while to arrive(maybe because we rocked up for brunch at 2pm)! Frankly, after having read other reviews about how great this place was for coffee, I was pretty disappointed. But I am putting this down to one of their ‘off’ days. and will be returning for a coffee some other time to give them(and me) a second chance in the hope that I am now finally in walking distance of fine coffee(at last)…

I wish I knew about this place years ago… I would have been one happy if not slightly chubby Kiwi. The coffee is pure lush, just thinking about it now I have a nagging feeling to take a jog over Clapham Common to purchase a bag of ‘Dr. Ropata’ Guatemalan coffee beans and a Flat White to go… in fact, I might just drink if there if not for the chocolate brownie on the side, but for the ANZAC biscuits and just to listen to the accents and tunes of home. The whole place is beautifully chilled and comforting(even for non-Kiwi’s) The Brunch is yum and they are pretty relaxed and will make suggestions if you must make alterations to the menu — while I was there some guy asked for just eggs on a plate as he couldn’t eat bread… long story short, he got them on a portobello mushroom instead(I did good to not let my jealousy get the better of me). If I was living in London much longer, I think I would move to be a little closer to this little gem of a café… Does anyone know of a similar place in NY at all?

A calm antipodean delight with great coffee and cakes. I went here on a Bank holiday, it was almost closing but I managed to get there before and my was it worth it. Particularly enjoying my flat white I sat reading one of the many magazines they had. I will definitely be returning here again.

Now what would make a perfectly smooth and tasty cup of coffee perfect? A massage by some hot fella? Possibly. A hug from your mum? Almost. A pay rise? Most definitely! Here at The Roastery they can’t give you that, they do however give you a little lump of home made brownie at the side of every cup. Now what’s so perfect about this is that it’s not real calories because you aren’t eating the whole thing! You also didn’t ask for it so it’s fat free and guilt free — basically it’s perfect. As far as brownies go this one was pretty awesome, now I was so blow away by the coffee that i can’t really talk about it too much but yes, I would travel across South London for a treat like this. The whole café is very… brown. It’s like the 70s showed up and vomited all over the show, in a good way though. The happy little chap who was working was fabulous, so on the ball, getting our coffee, making us breakfast, chatting with the regulars. It was just perfect. During the week they don’t have the full brunch menu so I didn’t get to sample that, I did however have a freshly made roll with egg and ham. For the sauce lovers there is Rocket Fuel, some NZ condiment that puts ketchup to shame. I just wish they sold it to take away.

This is a great little coffee shop in Clapham. I’ve lived in London for about a year now and the thing I miss most about home are little coffee shops and restaurants like the Roastery. The type of place where the people working there genuinely enjoy it and everyone knows each other. I’ve looked all around London for such a place. Turns out it was right around the corner from me! What makes the Roastery great is the atmosphere. But what makes it AMAZING is the food and drink they have. Unlike the previous reviewer I’m not a coffee snob. But I can tell you that the coffee they server here is some of the best I have ever had. For those that know San Francisco, it’s as good as Philz! I am however a smoothie snob, and the spirulina smoothie is amazing! Same with all the other food I have ever had there. And make sure not to leave without getting a piece of the carrot cake. I thought about downgrading the Roastery to four stars because their chef won’t share the secret to the amazing eggs and smoothies that she makes. But I guess if I could make something that good, I wouldn’t either. Five stars it is!

I went to the Roastery for the first time a few weeks ago — and was kicking myself for not having gone earlier. This Ozzie-run neighbourhood place has arguably the best lattes(or flat whites, if you’re being technical) in SW8. While I’m normally a one-cup man, I found myself having three. Also sampled the eggs benedict, which were… well… perfect. They are surely putting some Class-A’s in their hollandaise because every weekend hence I am craving their brunch. Only 4 stars because brunch stops service a bit too early for my liking(2.30pm at time of writing), and for a lazy bones like me, I like to get my eggs up till around 4pm.
