I came here a few times as it was located right next to my office. What I believe to be your standard british pub, they had a wide selection of drafts, bottles, and bitters. The bartender explained the differences and how the bitters were stored in a cask and were not chilled. I tasted a wide array of beer, however Sharps was my hands down favorite. Tracy the manager(I think) was a lot of fun and the staff was very friendly to us foriengers. Great pub with a great atmosphere.

I can’t say I enjoyed my visit here! It seems like a traditional British pub that serves beer and food, but the behaviour of the landlady certainly wasn’t acceptable. The landlady had a very abrupt and rude manner. When I entered the pub and walked past the bar to a spare table, I imagine she thought I was going to use the toilet facilities without buying a drink, which is very understandable. But the aggressive ‘Can I help you?’, as if I shouldn’t have been there at all, certainly wasn’t. After ordering a drink and moving to a larger table that had just been vacated, I received the same aggressive treatment, on account of my not noticing that the table was reserved. I moved immediately, but did take issue with the way she was talking to me. As a result, she grabbed my drink off me(with a refund, to her credit), forcibly made me leave by the back door, which ‘I deserved’ and called me a ‘disgusting human being’. Lovely. It seems like I am not the only one to experience this — there are reviews of this pub that I have read elsewhere that describe the exact same treatment from the landlady. So, a good pub for a few quick drinks after work, but beware of the behaviour from the bar staff! There are certainly better traditional pubs in the area, The Horniman for example.

Need a break after touring London all day. There is an excellent selection of international and local beers(cold ones if you like that). Nice atmosphere inside to just hangout and mingle with the local downtown business people. So on to the food, didn’t really know what We wanted so we tried the Bangers and Mashed. Let me tell you it was done yo perfection, down to the gravy. Classic English pub, loved our time there and will definitely go again

If you are looking for a trendy upscale club type pub this is not your place. This is a classic British Pub, it looks like a pub should from the outside, feels like a pub should on the inside, and serves beer and lots of it like a real British Pub! They have a traditional pub menu and the food I had ordered was very good. Most important the staff at Shipwrite Arms was very friendly. On my last visit to London I was there for work. I wanted to find a classic pub to hangout after a long working day. Shipwrite Arms was clearly the place. If your looking for a real British Pub this is it!

Not a lot of choice, but staff is nice and there are actually more tables than it looks like from the outside.

Even though I dislike it, it’s close to work and on the way to London Bridge station so it’s OK for a beer or two with friends as it sells one of my favourites beers, Doombar. It’s a traditional pub with poor décor and little atmosphere, the CC charge of 50p regardless of the price is not a good move and when a friend of mine opposed the charge he was literally ‘barked at’ by a scary barmaid, and paid in cash. As I said, OK for a quick drink after work but not a night out. Customer Service = 000

The Shipwright Arms is a traditional English pub located on Tooley St around halfway between London and Tower bridges. It tends to get busy with the after work crowd and provides a convenient stopping point on the wak to the station. The ale selection isn’t great with only Doombar and Deuchers to choose from although the pint is decent. The décor could do with updating and they always charge 50p to use a debit or credit card no matter how much you try to spend. If you are lucky enough you can snag a table outside and watch the world go by which is great in the summer. If you are after a quick beer after work then this place could be for you but not a great environment for a few hours

I went here in 2011 and I absolutely love this place! I thought the inside was beautiful. I loved the comical signs around the restaurant. The structure was so lovely to me and it was so centrally located. I think my boyfriend had lamb and he really liked it and I had a steak sandwich with chips that I absolutely loved. I have thought about this restaurant and its a sandwich many a time.

Security guys are all uneducated and disrespectful drones, especially the unhelpful one at the door. «We don’t give a crap about the customers, we are always right». The one inside is not better — preventing potential customers from accessing the toilet on the assumption that they are only coming to the pub for a piss. They are getting orders from the miserable heavy set lady manager at the bar. Worst pub I have ever been to in my 8 years of living in London.

6 draft real ales, 1 cider, friendly bar staff, room to book upstairs. Good to see this pub still being run by the same people and also now back in the Good Beer Guide!

Cosy little pub located in the vicinity of Southwark. Very old décor with the bar located in the middle and surrounded by seating all around. Friendly atmosphere and good range of spirits, beers and ales — including Hoegaarden on draught. Friendly staff. This pub is very busy. Function room available above the pub. Worth visiting for a quick pint whilst on your travel

On the plus side, it’s a grade two listed building with some really interesting tiles and old features. And that’s all I can find to be positive about it really. A lot of other reviewers have mentioned the«interesting» smells from this pub, and I have to agree. It was not a pleasant experience, the carpet is old and sticky and the furniture is the standard cheap pub stuff from a few decades ago. It’s a real pity that the inside doesn’t match the beauty of the outside. The real killer for me was the unhelpful woman behind the bar. I was getting a pint of lager for a friend before he arrived and didn’t really know which one to choose.(I don’t drink lager), so I asked her which was the most popular — «they all are» was the reply. So I asked for the cheapest — what a missed opportunity to encourage me towards special, more expensive lager!

This isn’t the greatest pub in terms of beer selection, food, or even general smell. But it is our pub and the location(right opposite the office) can’t be beat. The bar staff are friendly and when you make a habit of going there every Friday you are quickly on first name basis with all of them. I’d recommend this for Friday nights only when the place is packed with people unwinding after a long week, the drinks are flowing, and the banter is in high gear. I went once on a Saturday evening and the change was remarkable. Fridays = Young crowd, heavy drinking, occasional signing, lots of laughing Saturdays = Old men, not a sound, just one confused drinker looking for some company The Shippy’s will always have a space in my heart, for the memories made there, and jaeger trains conquered.

A very old school pub. I came here with a junior colleague for a work feeback meeting about 3pm yesterday and it was full of smashed builder types, evidence behind the bar of plentiful jäger bombs having been drunk, and they were playing hard house. Hilarious. But not that good, beer was average and the place smells a bit funny.

Stopped here in the afternoon after I saw the bright blue painted façade, and I hadn’t eaten anything all day. Inside were a handful of people in suits having some beers, and a group of older Spaniards eating fish and chips.(There were probably just as many people working there as there were patrons.) Their lunch menu was short and sweet. I was starving and opted for the bangers and mash. The servers at the bar were nice. I liked the décor, as far as the bar situated in the middle of the room and the old, patterned carpet. At one point during my meal a drunk homeless guy walked in, and what I assumed was an owner got up from eating and threw him out. Aside from that my meal was tasty. Wish I’d had a friend to eat with because I would have gotten a pint… seemed kind of wrong of me to be there without one.

Tooley Street, between London Bridge and Tower Bridge once had a lot of pubs, all built in the century before last, serving the longshoremen that lived near and worked in the pool of London. There are two still standing, the other, the Bridge Lounge although a great place, would be unrecognisable to the men that spent their days loading and unloading the ships and barges that packed this part of the river. The Shipwrights is caught in a little time capsule somewhere in the 19th or 20th century, largely unchanged for a very long time. The clientelle are a mix of commuters catching that last glass before the last train and Bermondey Street locals that lived there before Bermondsey Street became über chic and unaffordable. I don’t know if there is rally a connection, but the coat of arms on the sign outside is definitely based on the one used by the livery company of the same name. Overall, it’s a little dim and grubby, perhaps it’s the lighting that’s wrong. The service is quick, the beers are fine, but it isn’t actually a very nice pub. I like it because it’s refreshingly unmodernised, unpretentious and a little piece of old Bermondsey, it’s special but not especially nice.

I would give this place 2.5 stars preferably. It does have a very sharp smell of stale beer when you walk in. The bathrooms continue to add to the variations of interesting smells you get here. The upside is that the beers are reasonably priced, it is a good jumping off point once you and your mates are all together. I didn’t have any food, but just by judging the place, probably isn’t a place you go for dinner or an actual meal other than some chips or so.

This is a nice enough pub not far from London Bridge. It serves some ales, at a fairly high price, but then London Bridge is the 2nd business district of London these days. They also do some nice smelling food(was sat right by the lift that took the food down). They also bang on the little lift in order to have the empties/dirtys taken back up. This was a source of some childish interaction by ourselves I am ashamed to admit.
