Ron Burgundy would be all over this: Rich mahogany central. No sign of any leather-bound books, mind. Still, if you fancy pretending you’re in a cinema, there are two such seats near the back. Good selection of beer, very relaxed and people seemed mostly local. Stay classy.

Was recommended The Rose by Casse Croute. Its a small back section of the pub maybe 16 covers. Nice open kitchen and a great two seater overlooking the pass. We sat a two seater made from cinema seats. Menu was simple but looked great. We both had fish Sea Bass and Cod. Superb. Perfectly cooked with unusual but great selection of veg with fish. Beautiful crusty bread provided some starch and green beans some more colour. Chefs definitely prepared food with much care and love. I know i could see them doing it!

Went to the rose for post work dinner and drinks with a few colleagues. Menu is small but very enticing, definitely fat and above our standard pub grub! Open kitchen is great for foodies like me to watch all the action. For my main ordered the sea bream, which the waiter suggested I should try with the sides listed from the cod dish. My fish was crispy and flaky, served with a butternut squash purée and garlicky spinach. Found the dish lacking a little bit of salt and acid, but it was flavoursome and well presented. My friends both had the pork belly, which they couldn’t stop raving about! Dessert menu was lacking a chocolate option, so decided to skip it. Overall a really tasty meal, though service was a bit slow. Great atmosphere though!

Ordered the pie of the day which was very expensive(12 pounds) and was being advertised as chicken pie with vegetables on the side. Not only they didn’t bring any vegetables but the pie was not chicken but mince and seriously was one of the worst pies I ever had in my life, dry and completely tasteless.

We’ve lived on Leathermarket Street for nearly three years and finally, thanks to the Miller and now the Rose, we are starting to see great local beers and tasty, affordable food make an appearance. This place was being renovated for quite a while when we moved here the summer of 2012 and my girlfriend and I would always think it would be great to have a good local to stop at on the way home. The new Rose opened up last summer and we were elated. The interior is gorgeous, especially the copper ceiling/tabletops and wooden fittings. It evokes a romanticized Victorian-era public house. A great London trend these days is barrel-aged cocktails and they’ve got at least six I can see behind the bar. The draught options are interesting and been getting better since last summer. Even better are the bottled options from the likes of Weird Beard and local heroes, Brew by Numbers and Partizan. All in all, couldn’t ask for a better local in these parts.

This place has recently been renovated and is a great addition to the area. There is a wide selection of drinks behind the bar and the staff are friendly and know their stock. I’ve only had a couple of drinks here so far and am yet to try the food but it looks pretty tasty.

This place has been extensively renovated since the last review(and photo). If it was once good, it’s now amazing. An absolute standout bar in an otherwise slightly bland neighbourhood(I live opposite!). The beers are great, independently brewed and well priced. I haven’t tried the food but it always looks excellent. It’s a peaceful place and you can usually get a table fairly quickly, even on busy evenings. The interior is gorgeous — visually one of the nicest pubs I’ve ever been to.

This is an old mans pub. Which is amazing as really it shouldn’t be. The old men go home when the horce racing is over and it all becomes rather cool. The interior is very bohemian and the music is good, you can actually chill here. I love it

Popped in for an hour with a friend last night for a late pint. Really nice little pub, with character and interesting regulars. One Irish chap propping up the bar is always a good sign for any boozer. Very reasonably priced, for London. £7.60 for two pints of Sagres is as good as you’ll find anywhere in this city. They also played some great music. Definitely recommended.

I honestly thought this place was an old man’s pub. Secluded and off the main road, there it stood on the corner. We were looking for a place to go to… this will do we said, this will do. Once inside the music was the perfect music for a chillin’ saturday the Rolling Stones, Bloc Party and Bowie. There were random pictures all over the walls and a fireplace in the other room gave it a touch of class. For a relaxing night out this is your place.

A great little treasure in the Southwark locality, this small unassuming pub seems hidden away like some sort of secret hideout. I discovered it by accident once and often got lost trying to relocate it. I’ve since found a hard and fast route from my house, and frequent it due to its atmosphere, warmth, and the fact that it’s open until 2am. The jukebox is £1 for three songs(so take some coins!) and there’s nothing better than sitting back on the old sofas with a drink, taking in the friendly ambiance, and suddenly having your song come on. By the end of the night, people are usually dancing by the bar, while others sit in the slightly more secluded lounge area, deep in conversation into the wee hours. It’s a perfect spot to go anytime, but I love it when another pub closes at 11pm, and I can stumble to the Rose for three hours of extended merriment. Or perhaps I should not have told anyone…
