Whilst grumbling about the lack of entertainment(apart from flash city boy hotspots) to be found in Canary Wharf, my friend introduced me to The Space, which is quite literally a godsend in this otherwise dreary, concrete jungle. Truly, if it wasn’t for the Space I think I would have slowly died of boredom living here! A centre for performing arts including music, comedy, theatre, dance and film they have a really innovative calendar of events. I’ve been to see some experimental(and quite frankly surreal) performances that have been real eye openers and definitely something to be discussed long into the night. Whilst the last thing I saw was a Classical Music Recital that included an all girl barbershop quartet, a Tango-cabaret(including songs of Marlene Dietrich) and a piano Beethoven trio! This is what I love about the Space, they’re not afraid to mix things up a little bit and offer some exciting and very original acts. Also, if you live close by they offer a few of the performances for free. We received a «For being our neighbor…» letter through our door inviting us to a Christmas anti-panto and a comedy night, both absolutely free. It’s their friendly neighborhood attitude, trying to survive in an area of suited and booted city types, that I love the most. The cool Hububb bar and restaurant is upstairs too and if you are coming here don’t leave without popping in after a performance. Open until 12am most days, it’s a great place to wax lyrical over whatever you’ve just had the pleasure of seeing. Keep up the good work Space!

I have both performed and been a member of the audience at this venue and it’s good fun being in both. There is so much variety with regards to what is put on, you will not fail to find something you fancy seeing. This venue may seem out of the way, but a bus from right outside Canary Wharf station will take you right outside the door of the venue. The bar is small, but the menu is lovely. The inside seating area is light and welcoming, and they have a beer garden for those warm days(when we have them). They have a website, so check it out, and tickets are always inexpensive.
