The Underdog is located on Clapham High Street near to the Alexandra. I would recommend it for those put off by the crowds in the Alex or people with a preference for daylight when watching sport. They also have a home brewed lager on sale of which I’m a fan which earns an extra star for the review.

Reserved an area here for my friend’s hen do, after recommendation from one of the hens. Being super organised we dropped off some decorations early and were promised that they would be out when we arrived. They weren’t. The bride to be was happy anyway once we pulled out the balloons and threw table confetti everywhere. We had a great time and the music was fab a combo of everything you could possibly want to have a good old dance to. Drinks were standard London prices and I have still yet to look at the total damage on my credit card. FAB night!

The Underdog appeared from nowhere, replacing the popuar People’s Republic — a bar which was adorned with band posters and artwork, served a mean cocktail and played great music. I was a bit miffed to see it go to be honest. From the ashes of the ‘refit’ rose the Underdog. Which is essentially… err… the same bar as before only with sporting art on the wall and a fair few big flatscreens with token sports on 24⁄7. I like it mind you. So does the Aussie contingent who think they’re a bit above the Alex next door. Solid bar this — serves well as a spot for watching the big matches and just as good for a few drinks come the weekend. Like.

Probably not quite as good as the People’s Republic(yet) but The Underdog is making decent strides into the Clapham nightlife scene. Decent food, great atmosphere on Friday/Saturday nights and a fun crowd. Nearest tube station is Clapham Common and best place to head after here is Lost Society(about a 10 minute walk)

I only really venture here once a year before SW4 but it is a cool plce with nice surroundings and as near to Clpahm Common as you can get(apart from the Windmill) before the festival begins. i had one of my birthdays here as a starting point and it was amazing fun — it might have been all the mates that turned up but its a good place — for Clapham anyway.

I’ve been pretty down on this place without ever having been here, in fact I’ve refused to go in with ahunter a few times as they don’t serve pints. But I threw caution to the wind and went in last Friday night, it was a good laugh, admitedly some people did act like they’d had their brains extracted and replaced with wasabi peas but most people were having a good time and hey it beats infernos! One negative, trying to get to the bogs takes forever as it does get packed, but on the plus side once I did get there i had one of those conversations that makes me truly love living in Clapham.?! For some reason People’s Republic is considered an ‘Aussie bar’ but don’t let that put you off :-). People’s Republic is a great bar, just across the road from Clapham Common tube, it’s a good place to start your night out in Clapham. Be warned if you fancy more of a crawl, you may end up staying here all night. A decent selection of drinks, though lacking any draught beer which means you get stuck forking out for premium bottled beers. I particularly like People’s Republic for a Sunday session, the music is good and food is reasonable.

It’s not big and it’s not clever but it’s become the inevitable end to a few too many nights, recently. The People’s Republic is key territory for south-westers who fall into one of two categories; the young, just-graduated and very drunk type; the young, Antipodean and very drunk type. Crossovers permitted. If you’ve been there once you can guess next week’s playlist and if you’re a regular you’ll be able to spot the final song and pinpoint the moment that the barmen will leap on to the bar with near-frightening accuracy. If you’re a veteran you’ll have a fave barman and a wide-range of nicknames for the joint. PR’s not exactly classy but it can be heaps of guilty fun that’s not as filthy(with £10 cheaper entry) as Infernos. If you’re looking for a ten to two-er(when you don’t want to go home alone) then you might be in luck here, too. Just an observation.
