I came here once for a quiet drink on my way home from work. Great food, great beers, great internal design and seating and the staff are friendly. The atmosphere was nice and it felt like an upmarket, fresh, airy light bar.

The Windmill is a fairly average London pub, mostly serving the neighboring City and Old Street office populations. I’ve only attended for office group outings, since it’s large enough to accommodate parties of 15 – 20 on short notice. The last time I was there, we’d pre-ordered catered starters, which were fine. I can’t comment on the beer selection but the wines weren’t bad. The staff seemed overwhelmed by having to deal with us along with the usual pub patrons, although they didn’t have to do much for us besides serve up bottles of wine, set the platters on the table, and pour a few beers. It’s not a place I’d go out of my way to visit, but it’s OK if you’re nearby and need to host a group.

Came in here for lunch last year. Nice space but cold chips. Food was adequate to bad, and they refused to serve me iced tea even when I asked for hot tea and a cup of ice.

I quite enjoyed this pub. Cute bartenders and a good crowd from the nearby Old Street tech scene. But there is nothing special about it, for sure. I just had a good time here, so 4 stars.

Standard London pub with a below average beer selection. Due to the location though, it’s filled with lots of Old Street tech types(including myself) who ignore the terrible beer selection and keep going back anyways.

This should be a brilliant pub. Spacious. Low cityboy/skinnytrouser quotient. Cosy. Lots of tables. Warm wood walls. Somehow falls flat, though. It could be the lack of decent ales(Guinness & Old speckled Hen. I didn’t try the Guinness. The Old Speckled Hen was typically OK-to-arsey). Also Beck’s, Peroni, and some sort of cider. They’ve decent enough food, and haven’t gone the Thai route, sticking instead to potato-and-sausage based dishes. Which is nice. I wish they’d just get some decent beer in. Still, better than many of the pubs in the area.

been a couple of times for lunch. different vine to most city pubs. Italian theme, food and staff. very nice sandwiches that my Italian mates enjoyed. pretty quiet at lunch not sure about after work. ok for something a little different pub food-wise.

Is it a pub? Is it a bistro? Is it far too expensive, and do the staff need reminding of their jobs? Yup.

If I could give a zero rating, I’d give it to this bar. Perhaps it’s just me, but when you’ve been sitting in a bar all afternoon with a crowd of workmates(from about 12.30 until 6), coming over and putting a bunch of reserved signs on the table you’re sitting at is not my idea of good customer service. The bar manager didn’t even have the dignity to come over and explain the situation, which I could have understood. It’s also quite expensive, and the food is not very good, but OK for a pub I guess. The manager is truly up himself, but the other bar staff are friendly enough. It’s got quite a trendy look and feel having been done up a couple of years ago, but overall I’m really not a fan and haven’t been back since that afternoon.
