Absolutey one of my top 5 pubs in London… and I’ve been in a few. This is how a pub should be, no loud music, mismatching furniture and carpets, beer pulled properly by old school bar-tenders. A block away from the tourist hell of Notting Hill Gate.

I went there for a really important meeting one lunchtime having been associated with the publishers next door some time back. The landlady was frosty and sour faced from the outset for reasons that defied me ‚ My friendly banter fell on deaf ears and was greeted with nothing more than a monosyllabic grunt. When I requested more ice in my drink I begrudgingly got an extra cube! Getting dressed down for the ‘crime’ of my phone ringing was the last straw . The Gentleman I was having my meeting with left for the friendly atmosphere of the pub around the corner. Bazil Faulty is the perfect public servant in comparison to this woman Or perhaps she just got out of bed the wrong side. I will never step foot in that lair of unpleasantness again

This is a lovely quiet backstreet pub, surprisingly close to Notting Hill Gate station. The idyllic tranquillity when I arrived was kind of ruined by the rest of my friends showing up and being very noisy. The locals were probably glad to see the back of us! Sorry pub, but as long as you serve such delicious pints of Tribute I will be back.

A good solid pub away from the all the hectic bustle of Notting Hill Gate. This place is as tucked away as a pink shirt in the morning and is pretty much all about getting the basics right. There is no music here, I don’t think they serve food and the distractions are only as good as the conversation you’re having or the drink you’re drinking. They’ve got a really nice fire in one corner and plenty of tables scattered about the stacked bar. Naturally, the choice is pretty varied and the house spirits tend to come in doubles and double is better than single, just look at the fuss about Valentines Day. I like it if I’m going to one of the local cinemas here as it never gets ridiculously busy and the crowd is always mixed and never a turn off.
