I’ve been here twice with my girlfriend during lunchtime on a Saturday and the food is actually quite nice. I decided to bring my extended family as a group of 14 on a Monday evening so it wasn’t particularly busy. I booked two weeks in advance to make sure there was seating for us, which I got a call back to confirm the booking. When I arrived at the restaurant they didn’t have my booking but because it wasn’t busy our group was seated at the front of the restaurant. It all started to go downhill from there as I could never find the waitress to which I had to keep looking for her because no one ever came to our table to take our order. When our order was placed using the evening set menu the starters took 30mins to arrive, at which point it took 15mins to get someone’s attention to get me a spoon. Our drinks order arrived with two drinks short, but a waitress never followed up to check it we had all of our drinks. we order 3 pots of tea, all of which came half full. Our mains order arrived nearly an hour after we finished the starters. The steak dishes were less than impressive for £20. Took me 15mins to find a waitress to get ketchup because we were given one between 14, and it was empty at that. Desserts arrived nearly 45mins later, after arriving at 7pm desserts were served at nearly 9:30pm. The crème brûlée was a let down coming with a slice of tinned peach in the bottom. It took time to pay the bill even though I was paying all of it and requested she bring the card machine over. I had to find the waitress and all the staff in the restaurant always seem to disappear into a blackhole and never re-appear. £200 bill but due to an embarrassing experience will not be coming back with any groups. Also as you walk in through the pub, was greeted by some quite foul mouthed customers who called my group a bunch of tourists and wondered if we thought this was«f****** Trafalgar Square» because I had a camera.

The pub is really old and looks great both from the outside and on the inside. They don’t, however, have a good selection if beers, which is what you’d expect from a place like this, so I’ve only been there once and probably won’t go again. The only good thing about it is the Travelodge nearby.

This used to be my favourite hang out place. Since they rearranged some of the furniture it looks more like restaurant than a pub. Their prices are going up, too. Also they need to have a better selection of non alcoholic drinks. On the other hand I love it in the summer because you can sit outside have lunch with your mates and enjoy the weather.

This place is very local to me literally 500 yards away. The only time I have partaken is with a friend who lives round the corner. The drink selection is OK, prices are average to high. We tried the deep fried mushrooms, these were very good, and also the Crostini with melted Brie(average but quite filling) The only complaints we had was that ashtrays in the garden were overflowing, it wasn’t majorly busy that day but if(as most do) you want to eat out in the garden at the tables it’s not very nice to be confronted by that now is it? oh! and also the service is sometimes crap they need an extra person on from 5:30 onwards as the bar gets really busy. no matter what day its always the same waiting to be served. Originally gave this place 4 stars service hasn’t improved so now marked down to three. PS lots of PPL complain about the service here :(

This is pretty well the perfect pub. Friendly, busy but not too crowded. Great beer and food, helpful staff. I went on a Wednesday and found there was also a great jazz band, too.

Time stands still, but the feeling inside went a bit downhill. I love how Ye Olde Cherry Tree looks like, amazing old times you can still feel, and I used to enjoy a nice drink and meal here. However, it became more of a factory feeling, long queue to order some food and staff running around a bit in chaos. Best to avoid this in the weekends, just too long waiting, but for a midweek it is a nice place, but I do hope they change their ‘format’ back into a more comfortable approach

I usually stay here if on business, the rooms are not economical for a one person stay, as they are the same price for a family of 5. That said, lovely log fires in the winter, tasty food reasonably priced, even better puddings, always busy but usually able to find a spare table, alfresco in the wamer evenings, plenty of parking space and last but not least, guest beers and a good wine selection.

The cheery tree in Southgate has been around for hundreds of years, it use to be a regular of mine a few years back. It is a large pub with a function room where people often hold birthdays, engagements or tributes. You can arrange for your own caterers to operate here, or us the kitchen that they provide. It has a quite a large car, and a huge bar separated by a couple of rooms, and it also has a really nice bear garden at the rear, which on a sunny afternoon is packed. It is quite picturesque from outside, with greenery in front and the surrounding area. It is a part of Southgate’s heritage and will always have its regulars. At Friday and Saturday nights, the crowd tends to be quite young, especially when I was a regular a few years back. Though nowadays it is not so popular with the younger generation. It is a traditional pub and I will be going there this Sunday for a roast, which I have had a few times and give it top marks.

This used to be a ye olde boozer with a small restaurant but it’s now essentially a restaurant that has a bar. It sits in a beautiful old building by Southgate Village Green, and has been in existence for more than 400 years. The food won’t blow you away, but it is good, and reasonably priced. The sirloin steak, onion rings, chips and peas, gets a big thumbs up from me. And because I’m a growing lad I always go for the chocolate puddings. The chocolate brownie is gorgeous! In the winter the log fires are blazing, which makes it a nice, cosy environment. If you don’t like chain pubs, then this probably isn’t the place for you. But if you’re so taken by its charms and can’t bear to leave, it also houses a 19 bedroom Innkeeper’s Lodge. Included in the price is a complimentary continental breakfast.
