Great food, good fish and chips. Nice selection of cask ales, not as old as you may think(2003) NYTimes. Watch out for the monopoly guys

Old world charm, fiend my staff and relaxing pub atmosphere is how I would best describe Ye Olde Cock Tavern on the Strand in London’s city of Westminster. Here surrounded by beautiful, elaborately ornamented old churches and buildings from the last few hundred years, I came in for a spot of lunch and one of their many hard ciders. Welcomed by the bartender, I got comfortable and feasted upon hunter chicken.(Spiced ham, and cheeses over baked kitchen with a tangy BBQ sauce, and perfectly made chips and coleslaw. And dessert a nice slice of Bromley Apple pie, with fresh country apples and a warm custard sauce. Finishing off the meal with a pint of one of their hard ciders they had on tap. Talking to a 2 businessmen at the next table, Ye Olde Cock Tavern is also the place to go to enjoy your favorite football(soccer in America) match with you mates. At the next table another tourist visiting from Australia enjoyed the same dish, after she asked how was mine. Ye Olde Cock Tavern is a great place for lunch, dinner, to enjoy time with friend or just a nice break touring London.

Paramos a comer ‘cod and chips’ y unas pintas.

Not much to say about this place, customer service is good. They’re friendly always asking if everything is OK. Which can be a bit annoying when you’re trying to eat. The wine was bad, to be honest didn’t finished. Can you believe that! hahaha Regarding the food is simple don’t expect nothing fancy, still it could be better.

Old pub made modern good range of real ales. Good location if you are attending the old bailey :). Large but narrow is best description with lots of wood. Prices are ok too for London. Gets quite croweded and didn’t find service very good.

What a stupendous building! So gorgeous from the outside! I’ve stumped up and down Ludgate Hill a time or two in my life, and somehow managed to miss this place. On a recent trip to London, hubby and I decided to pop in. And we are sorry we did. Ye Olde Cock Tavern, in its delightful setting that looks like a relic from before the Great Fire, is, alas, a pretty terrible pub. We should have known how bad it was when we walked in to discover that we were the only customers. Good pubs are generally not uninhabited at three o’clock in the afternoon in a busy street in London. But there we were. The spouse ordered a Guinness, and I asked for a half pint of Carlsberg. The slattern behind the bar didn’t know– or didn’t CARE — how to pull a pint of Guinness, and just slopped the pint full in one pour. She was clearly far more interested in flirting with her coworker and singing along(badly) to the jukebox while doing a provocative Beyoncé dance and batting her eyelashes from underneath a teensy Santa hat perched on top of her empty little head. My half pint glass of Carlsberg was fine — but it’s really not possible to mess that up. Bad atmosphere, bad customer service, sloppily poured Guinness. A dud.

Great vibe & service, plus good food. The Cod & Chips is served in a generous portion & the very long bar is stocked with all your favorites. Impressive selection of pints as well.

As a North American in London for 6 weeks, I’d walk past this place every day on my way home from work and I just had to go in. Juvenile as it may be, a name like«Ye Olde Cock Tavern» just stood out from the rest, even if I know they mean ye older rooster. This is your typical English pub with 3 levels, plenty of lighting, good selection of beers, and a decent food menu. They are a part of Taylor Walker pubs, which makes them a «chain,» but not many pubs aren’t in this town. I ordered a Newcastle w/Steak and Ale pie and was completely satisfied with both. Free WiFi is an excellent touch to keep me there longer and preoccupied. The only complaint I really have is that I ordered a beer I absolutely hated and took a sip of it and let them know i’d like something else instead and rather than just give me another beer, they charged me for it. I’m not saying that’s not justified, but I know a lot of bars where they would just swap it out. Oh well. Worth a pop in for a quick pint & something traditionally british to eat. Plus, checking in here confuses your friends on facebook.

I’ll be honest, my intentions in popping in to Ye Olde Cock Tavern were not the most noble. If you can imagine exactly what a 10 year old boy might think when reading the name of the pub, there’s a fair guess of the mindset I was in when a friend and I popped in for dinner while waiting on some friends… But maybe the best way to say it is that Ye Olde Cock Tavern has the kind of name you don’t easily forget. Luckily, they also have a great atmosphere, good food, great service, and the range of beers, ciders and spirits necessary to fit a group for the night. It ended up that dinner was so good that all of my friends joined me at Ye Olde Cock Tavern, despite plans to go elsewhere. Perhaps the best way to say that is to say that when a place is this good and you have a table, you just carry on ordering. I would recommend Ye Olde Cock Tavern absolutely, for the atmosphere especially if you are in the neighborhood and looking for a place. There are lots of options in the south Holborn region, but there’s so much pride to be taken in checking in here, how can you not?

Came here with a Globus tour and really enjoyed the meal. This building is very old, one of several that didn’t burn down in the Great Fire. Historic, Charles Dickens used to eat(or drink) here. Very nice service, exceptional food. Two of my companions did not like the mushroom starter. I did not try it. I thought the caesar salad was small by American standards, but a starter is a starter. It was good. The atmosphere is good and the beer is lovely. The steak and ale pie is simply to DIE for. Mind the back staircase to the loos, windy and steep!

There’s no single quality that makes Ye Olde Cock Tavern stand out from any other pub. It’s got good atmosphere, cheap drinks and it’s a great place to hang out after work. But, I love this place solely for the vegetarian fish and chips. I really did love fish and chips, despite the cliché. And though I never ate that much of it before I became a veggie, I suddenly wanted it simply because I couldn’t have it. It was forbidden fruit. Then someone had the genius idea to deep fat fry halloumi cheese. Halloumi has a nice salty flavour and a bit of a squishy consistency. So it doesn’t taste like fish, but I can almost convince myself it’s just as good!

Entendez steak énorme + cheese + oeuf + bacon + beignets d’oignons. Hard! Mal au bide immédiat! Rien à dire sur le service. Agréable, souriant, rapide. Un très bon point à ce niveau. Les prix étaient très très corrects.

Wow. I had totally forgotten that Unilocal is now in the UK and for some strange reason it just occurred to me to see if I could find this place on Unilocal.I’m happy that it is here! It’s been years since I’ve been here but this place definitely sticks out in my memory. While we were doing a whirlwind trip through London to find a church that was referenced in the Da Vinci Code(in retrospect, that was really stupid and totally not worth the time), we happened to stumble upon this pub. Maybe it’s because of the name and my lack of maturity, but my buddy Craig and I just had to come in here and grab a drink. If memory serves me right, I believe I ordered up the spotted dick and a pint of Newcastle. Oh memories…

This is a decent pub on Fleet street which is great for functions. It can comfortably hold 100 for an event and cater for meals as well. A really versatile space.

Over a hundred years old, this pub is one of the most historical drinking places in London. The building was once The Law Courts Branch for The Bank of England. With ornate carvings which are thought to of been from the famous 17th century carver Grinling Gibbons, one have the feeling of waking up in a period drama. The pub serves traditional english pub grub, I had Fish and Chips here and it was very reasonably priced. It wasnt the best food I have had, and it was abit cold. This place is best for coming for a drink.

A bit of an odd-ball boozer in terms of clientele that seems to attract a mix of clerks from the nearby Chambers, local office workers, and tourists(it’s not too far off the beaten track). A deceptively large area means it’s good for groups having drinks after work, and ample seating and an upstairs area both ensure it never gets too crowded. The beer’s good enough(including ales), and the wine’s not bad(but pretty unimaginative), and the food is enough to keep most happy — not brilliant but certainly reasonable for a traditional pub.

An old-fashioned and genuinely old pub in the City with a very comfortable atmosphere and no pretensions to be anything fancier. The service is efficient, and the prices are very reasonable(for central London!). Early Friday nights are busy, but most times of the week, it is possible to find a table somewhere in its cavernous interior. The recently revamped food menu presents a selection that is definitely better than your average pub grup, including the inevitable pies, but also burgers, seefood, mixed platters for sharing and vegetarian choices in all categories.

A nice pub inside the lawers quarter of london. I have been there with colleagues after a hard day of work, and we had a lot of fun. The interior is very nice and cozy and remindes with its rather dark wooden furnishing of typicall irish or british pubs. There is a wide range of beers and other spirits offered. And of course, the Ye old cock tavern also serves something to eat… like the famous fish&chips :-) Have not been to London very often, but I think, Ye old cock tavern is rather cheap, especially for this location.
