Yialousa Greek Taverna

A quaint mom and pop joint with a nice menu of greek favorites. Hummus and dolmades were average, but the mussels special was delicious. Very fresh tasting, and nicely complimented with hot pita. Service was pleasant. It’s a wonderful respite from heavier fare you can find at the pubs. They need a veggie meze option!

I had two meals here in London while staying in Russell Square for seven days. I was very tired and really needed a good, hot, well prepared meal. No complaints here. Menu was standard Greek fare but well done and satisfying. Just what the doctor ordered after a long day of touring.

Good food, not so good prices. While the prices aren’t awful (it is central London, mind you), they are enough to make me feel grumpy. The prices for vegetarian dishes is the same as meat dishes and even the house wine is expensive. That said, it was good and I will probably go back, until I find a better Greek restaurant in the area. I had an aubergine appetizer that was quite tasty and the house red was good as well. Again, toilet is downstairs unfortunately.

My husband and I walked by, was looking at the menu outside and were greeted by a very helpful waitress. We were impressed by all of the vegetarian choices offered on the menu. The food was delicious (Stuffed peppers and moussaka) and staff was very nice to us. I would definitely go back here again. While the food was a little expensive, I think they were pretty normal for London.

The food was pretty good and reasonably priced to me. The service was fairly lacking, however, for no apparent reason. There were plenty of wait-​staff who were standing around most of the time, but they just didn’t seem to care about refilling my water or bringing me a check. When I finally did ask for the bill, they had to go get the manager and have him ring it up, which took a while.

There seems to be a lot of limited vegan places around russell square so I decided to get take away from here. If you like packet pasta — go for it. The Napoli sauce was boring and under seasoned. Will definitely not come back.

I had an excellent meal at Yialousa, a place I had passed for years but had never tried. The lamb shashlik was very tasty, and came with grilled vegetables and rice/​orzo. Greek salad very fresh with loads of cheese. Portions are huge! Hot pita bread and a small bowl of excellent olives made this a totally satisfying meal. The service was a little chaotic but friendly, as was the Filipino manager. I would definitely eat at Yialousa again.

I am a fan of Mediterranean eats. I decided to try this venue out despite some of the negative reviews on Unilocal,almost all of which are several years old (the better ones were more recent). I am glad I did! The staff was extremely friendly and doting. And, the food was delicious without disappointment! I ordered tzatziki, falafel and the Moussaka. This venue was buzzing for the 1 – 2 hours I spent enjoying my meal, without being rushed out… In fact, I was encouraged to stay as long as I wanted. HIGHLY recommended.

The food was really good and service was good, maybe a little more attention than I needed from the 4 waitresses who all kept asking me the same questions, in the end it was refreshing to know they just wanted to ensure the customer was happy.
The one thing I noticed that I didn’t like is how an Asian man with long hair talked to the waitresses, I think he was the manager. They seemed to almost be afraid of him.

The food was great but the atmosphere and service left something to be desired. My keftedakia tasted great and the hummus avid tsaziki we ordered was better than I usually find. There was no music, both waitresses seemed to have trouble understanding us and they forgot to give us pita bread after bringing out the spreads for a good ten minutes. I would go back only because the price is right.

I wasn’t quite expecting this to be the greatest meal I’d ever had, based on the reviews here. But the restaurant was close by to my hotel so I decided to try it. It was DELICIOUS. I had a Greek coffee, which the waitress was nice enough to explain to me, and the Vegetarian Moussaka, which was honestly the best I’ve ever had and left me craving it as a midnight snack later on that night.
The staff were very friendly and my waitress was an absolute doll, who took time to recommend things to me and explain what they were, as some of the dishes I was unfamiliar with.
I was there at a relatively slow time though, so I cannot comment on the state of the service when it is busy.
I’d recommend it!

My friends and I wanted a meal late night after seeing a play. We walked out the back of our hotel and saw this nice restaurant across the street.
There was a very nice waitress who let us in despite the closing time soon approaching. We all delighted in our meal. We shared a hummus plate and had individual meals. Our drinks were very well appreciated.
I recommended this restaurant to everyone in our tour group and delighted to see others our last night there eating.
We had a more substantial meal that night. I loved the lamb casserole that filled the plate! I would say this restaurant serves the hearty eaters that may need a big meal following a long day touring the city of London.
Our waitress was the same lovely young woman.

My girlfriend and I were wandering around the backside of our hotel area and found this. She is Greek and she said the food sounds good and the price was in my price range. We looked at the menu outside but the waitress came out to greet us and if we wanted to be seated. We chose inside as it was a bit chilly. We ordered an app and out entrée but they also gave us free olives. I honestly would not recommend you eat those lol. They looked like they were sitting in the back marinating.
Anyways what we ordered was great! I am still a bit picky but I thoroughly loved my chicken and the waitress was helpful in informing me that if I wanted veges and chips as my sides. which I loved the recommendation because I did want both lol. I ordered the Greek beer.
All in all, I would totally recommend this place! It’s definitely affordable, it was the end of our holiday and my funds were running low and I wanted souvenir money lol rather than food. There were 2 – 3 parties in there by the time we sat and left. Quiet, our waitress checked on us the number amounts of times necessary, she noticed when I wanted to ask for the check. I mean the décor is a bit «cheap» is the first word that comes to mind, but I was warm and I was fed without waiting too log for our food and the service was excellent. Definitely recommend this place!

I don’t know what all the negatives are about. The food here was fine (and that’s coming from a Greek). The place itself could use an upgrade… the flowers on the tables were a little wilted and the tables themselves and chairs looked like they were from the 60s. But the food is what important and I thought it was fine… nothin to write home about but certainly not bad!

This was the worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had!
First off… we ordered 3 plates total: one appetizer, and one plate for myself/​one for my friend.
Our meals came before our appetizer. I had to remind the waitress and she informed us they «forgot to make it.» Okay…
Then, halfway through my plate I realize my dolmas are not of the «mixed» variety like I ordered, they are all the same.
My friend, who has been a vegetarian for 10 years, ordered the VEGETARIAN stuffed peppers. After her first bite, she realizes there is meat in her dish.
We inform the staff, who tell us «they were out of vegetarian» and proceed to substitute her dish with a completely different dish. Of course, we are still charged.
My dish was incorrect, and I was informed they were also «out» of what I had ordered… and this was never corrected. We did get free dessert out of the whole debacle. This was mediocre.
The best part: as we left, we heard the lady next to us informing the waitress her fish was RAW in the middle. RUN, don’t walk, away from this horrible restaurant!

If you’re looking for a restaurant close by the Royal National, this cosy Greek restaurant is a good value.
I’ve been twice, once for lunch and once for a late night dinner. Both times, the food that I’ve ordered has been delicious. The first time I had beef in a stew like sauce with rice. It had lovely flavour and the meat was fairly tender. The second time we had the humus to start with, and then I had a lamb that was braised with vegetables. The lamb just fell apart and was so tender. And there is a lot of food… I always leave very, very full
It isn’t a fancy place, but for the price I think the food is good and we haven’t had a problem with the service so far.
