It’s that personal touch that makes Yumitub so special. Inspired by Thailand, the idea of making the ice cream in front of you so you can create your own mix of flavours makes this place cool. Personally I’ve had higher quality ice cream which have been smoother and creamier so if you’re expecting that you may want to lower your expectations. So you choose your cream. The guy pours it over a frozen metal plate and using incredibly speed and strength he chops it with two metal blades and smooths it out and keeps repeating these two processes until the cream freezes and holds together to turn into ice cream. It was pretty awesome just to watch him, like a piece of art. There was a crowd forming just to watch this guy in action. But to be honest I would only recommend one dish which is the brioche s’mores that comes with vanilla ice cream. Melted hot marshmallow between two warm toasted brioche served with cold freshly made vanilla ice cream. I was cheeky enough to get extra fudge in mind for free. You can try your luck ;) Pure bliss in my mouth. After all the savouries I had in Brixton market this was the perfect dessert.

I had seen a video on the Internet of this unusual method of ice cream preparation in Thailand where they freeze yoghurt or milk over a cold steel plate, then shave rolls of ice cream or frozen yoghurt in to a cup. To my delight I found Yumitub, an ice cream and frozen yoghurt stand in the Pop market in Brixton. It’s £3.50 for a regular, and £4.50 for a large. You pick either an ice cream flavour, or yoghurt. Next you can pick two toppings, with an option for extras at an additional cost. I went for the yoghurt with mango and blueberries. The yoghurt and toppings are then chopped up and worked over on an ice cold steel plate, the end result a paper cup of fruity, frozen yoghurt shavings. There is also an option for sauce on top if that’s what you fancy. I prefer my frozen yoghurt naked and went straight in. Verdict? Delicious! So tasty and so refreshing on a hot summers afternoon. I can’t wait to head back and try other flavour combinations!
