Excellent food and drink, excellent service, music’s a little loud! This rare bird in Whitefield, out of the city, is worth the trip — come for breakfast, or lunch or afternoon tea, and then stock up your pantry — do people have pantries any more? — with Italian goodies. The service is excellent with staff ready for you as soon as you walk in. Food is great and the coffee is strong. Plenty of seats and when the sun’s out, you can sit outside by one of the busiest roads in Manchester, if you must! No wifi but that just means you have to focus on the present and the company you keep, which must be a good thing. Free parking behind Roma(and Morrisons) and Whitefield tram station is literally thirty seconds walk: there’s no reason to not come out here.

Roma is a nice local deli, it has an Italian root and that theme spreads through the building and down into the olives they serve ! But a lot of the products served seem only like that of the quality of a supermarket yet with an Italian label! Now don’t get me wrong that may apply to the dry goods on the shelf but the fresh cakes and deli items are beautiful ! I can highly recommend the tiramisu — it’s nothing like the drivel you get in a supermarket it tastes extraordinary alongside this the biscotti is marvellous ! Having had friends eat in here I can report back that the service seemed flappy yet slow but it’s worth the wait ! I’ll have to try for myself

When you think of Italy, a shop unit adjacent to Morrison’s on Bury Old Road is probably not what springs to mind. Don’t be misled though — Roma is authentically Italian in every way. It’s a triple act here — shop, café and takeaway. The shop sells all manner of Italian foods — pasta and Roma’s home made pasta sauces, rice, polenta, pannetone, home made ice cream, sausages, charcuterie, antipasti… you name it, it’s here. Then there’s the take out — home made pizzas etc.(we went for a take out salami calzone which was amazing) and desserts. The desert I went for was something with an Italian name which I could barely pronounce so I’m hardly going to try and spell it now, but suffice it to say it was an amazing blend of meringue, amaretti biscuits and Nutella. We didn’t sample the café but it was doing brisk business on a Saturday lunchtime and lots of the people were clearly regulars. The standout feature of our visit had to be the staff. Even though we were only getting a very small order, they incredibly attentive — taking time to explain the options, asking how we wanted things packing, offering to tweak the temperature of the calzone better to our suiting.

Me and Woody popped in Roma for lunch today, nothing more than I would expect, good food(Anti Pasti for me, Woody had Garlic bread with cheese!?) And reasonable prices. One point, I ordered a glass of wine, when the waitress brought it over, I had to smile because she was spilling it all the way to our table, if you know the Roma and part of its charm is it has no pretence just a family run business. We finished with good cakes, Canoli for me and a Mount Vesuvius for Woody. Tip top.

Roma is Whitefield’s answer to Edinburgh’s Valvonna & Crolla, but, without the hoity toity pomp & circumstance. I’ve eaten at Roma before and the food was nothing less than exemplary. This visit I simply popped in for a take out Double Espresso. This is NOT for the faint of heart as it packs one heck of a kick in addition to be one of the very finest coffees I’ve drunk anywhere. The staff are the best, happy, upbeat, down to earth and friendly. Hopefully, I’ll be back again for breakfast in a couple of weeks.

This is great little deli/restaurant/café which I can’t recommend highly enough. They sell all things Italian in their small but very well stocked shop. Several different types of pasta both fresh and dried, specialist sweets and biscuits, pasta sauces, specialist alcohol etc. On the counter they have a wide selection of meats, it’s hard to choose what not to buy! And their cakes(especially the vanilla slices) are heavenly — although one of these is enough to share. They also sell a wide range of Panetonnes around Christmas. They do takeaway and stay in food — the sandwiches come on large floury baps and are very generous — the ham is really tasty, but one of my personal favourites is the Dolcelatte sandwich. They also do a braod range of pizza and pasta dished — if I liver nearer I’d be in here all the time!
