I should start by saying that I have only been to Sindhoor once; but it did leave a good overall impression. The menu is really interesting — with a lot of items that you just don’t see in your standard indian restaurant(perhaps you do see them in south indian restaurants but worth noting the difference). We had three courses — starting with a very nice soup(which the waiter — or, possibly, the owner) offered us in half portions. This is well worth remembering, especially if you just want a taste. The chicken and cauliflower starters were very tasty although I would say that they really should cut down on the colouring(I might be completely wrong, but I can’t imagine getting cauliflower to appear *that* red without it). We also had vada(sort of donut) as part of the starter — turned out to *not* be something I was particularly interested in, but has to be tried. Next up; I would definitely recommend trying the duck — it was very tasty and also good to see something different on the menu. We also had a rather tasty Lamb dish and appam were a great lightweight alternative to the usual chapati or naan. Pros: Nice portion sizes(not too massive) Interesting menu(I have yet to try the dosa) Good attention from the staff(mostly) Not bad value. Tasty! Cons: I said mostly good attention, the first waiter was not quite ‘on it’. He seemed to be replaced very rapidly and then all was fine. Too much colouring in some dishes(again, it looked like it was coloured — maybe I’m wrong!)

Please note that this review is for their takeaway/delivery service: After a long flight back from a holiday in Athens, my ultimate dream was to get home, and with minimal effort order a tasty curry, sit on the couch and get very very fat! With being one of the best in Manchester and having been to enjoy their South Indian delights before, I thought I’d check to see if Sindhoor delivered to our area. Finding out we were about 0.3km out of their delivery area I managed to convince the guy to deliver to us as long as I spent over £20(easy with my hunger and I probably could have spent that myself before ordering my wifes food) After being told it would be an hour due to us being on the delivery far reaches, I said this was fine and sat back to chill out and wait for it to be delivered. After an hour and a half there was nothing so called them back and they said it would be 10 minutes — waiting another 45 minutes it eventually came which I was thankful for as I could have been eating the table and the inflight magazine I brought back due to starvation by this point. Thankfully the food was as good as we were hoping for — the Masala Dosa to start was a fine choice, the prawn moily full of flavour and big fat prawns and the dal tadka being a left field choice by us but one I would highly recommend. One thing which was disappointing was my order of appams was missed off the order even though I’d checked the final order with the guy on the phone a couple of times. Put it this way — the crumpets I used from home as our Indian breads worked surprisingly well in the end but I’m not sure if they’ll be catching on in any Manchester curry house anytime soon. So I’d say that Sindhoor is all about the food and I’d agree with previous reviewers in that the service leaves a lot to be desired. Saying that I will keep going back but think we’ll either eat in, collect ourselves or order 3 weeks in advance of feeling hungry next time!

Real foodies in the know will absolutely be in love with this place. It is an absolute God send, in every sense of the word. Ok so its location first. Burnage is not the best of areas let’s be fair, but this is a blessing in disguise because it is the last place people would think about dining out. This means it is never too busy, which isn’t a reflection on the restaurant but merely on the demographics of the area!!! The food is in one word magnificent!!! I mean the flavours just keep on firing on all cylinders from the moment you sink into your Mysour lambchops to the moment you wipe clean the last of your lamb vindaloo. Yes I did say lamb twice. Why? Well my friends, I have arguably never tasted a better set of seasoned lamb chops in my life. Even the bone seems to have inbuilt flavour, I gotta ask them how they do that! The décor inside is mellow and traditional with South Indian art displayed on the walls and comedy value bollywood song selection on show with various LCDs dotted around the restaurant. The waiters are amongst the politest you’ll ever meet and they are knowledgeable about their respective cuisine. Excellent recommendations. Now the food doesn’t arrive in a flash and you understand why when it does arrive. The amount of effort that goes into cooking it is evident. I’m not talking about decorating the food willy nilly, I’m talking about seasoning. God I love that word in this review. It is very relevent though in this case. There is so much to admire on the menu it is refreshing, South Indian cuisine is different. Indian has over 100 languages with a population of over a billion people you’d be ignorant and foolish to think that all of Indian cuisine is going to be the same. If you ever want to try out the variation and expand your horizons, this is the place to start!!! This place really is as good as it gets, whether you’re trying the Masala Dhosa, or the Mysour chops, you’ll be blown away. I haven’t mentioned prices and don’t feel the need to because the food this good is worth every penny.(FYI for those pedantic souls amongst you it is averagely priced, 5 of us were well fed and drenched with a bill of under £64, you do the math)

In my humble opinion Sindhoor is a very good restaurant. You should know that South Indian food is really time consuming to prepare which is the a whole different concept of Indian food, so you can’t really compare with the other Indian restaurants! You will not find your usual Indian dishes on the menu, and it makes a welcome departure from the curry mile type restaurants. I would recommend trying this place if you are looking for something spicy with a difference, just don’t expect your food to be served within minutes of ordering!

I was recommended this restaurant by a friend who claims it’s one of the best restaurants of its kind(serving south Indian cuisine) and I have to say I was very impressed by the standard of the food. South Indian cuisine puts more emphasis on rice as the staple grain, and in particular uses a lot of coconut and pickles in their dishes too. If you enjoy Thai cuisine but would prefer something less fragrant, then perhaps this is for you. I tried the Lamb Kuruma(Lamb cooked with selected whole spices and coconut paste, a south Indian varient of ‘khorma’) and my friend the Beef Varattiyathu(Beef slow cooked with spices, coconut flakes, crushed black pepper in a thick bottom pan, a dry preparation, all time favourite of Kerala) which were both delicious. We finished every last morsel on our plates! Okay, the service leaves a lot to be desired, but for £5 a dish, you can’t really complain.
