I’ve been curious to try SuperStore for a while and finally got my chance for dinnertime(previous brunch attempt thwarted by some kind of event closing down whole restaurant). We decided to try all five small plates for £25(standard prices around £7 so good value). They all came on a board which looked cool but hid some of the sauces under leaves. The plates were(1) calamari: decent, quite spicy which was good(2) grilled halloumi, also fairly good(3) pakora, much heavier than the other dishes and quiet dry(4) chicken wings, which I thought were well seasoned(5) ribs, nothing to write home about. Overall nothing stood out to me as particularly delicious and I’ve had better wings, ribs and halloumi elsewhere in Manchester(El Capo, Cane & Grain and my friend Sara’s house, respectively). The pakora I wouldn’t recommended. Onion rings were pretty good, I really liked the dip they came with. Sauvingnon Blanc definitely not the best I’ve had in Manchester, and I’ve had a lot. They should go consult with hangingditch. Atmosphere was dead as it was very quiet but it’s quite a pleasant looking restaurant with good light by the windows. I wouldn’t go rushing back but nor would I refuse to, which is my benchmark for 3 stars!

A small underground shop selling all your essentials for the lucky folk living in the NQ. Seemed a bit pricey on the drinks side a standard bottle of water was £1 where 20m further down the road same water about half price but food seemed a reasonable price !

Good quality, interesting in the right way, food. I came here for a friend’s birthday lunch in a party of 8. We were asked to pre order and the menu did lookers inviting but a bit too expensive for me. Luckily sandwiches are available at lunch. So I was glad to be able to order a fish finger sandwich with a side of chips and salad for a total of £7.50 which seemed more affordable. The sandwich was tasty with homemade fish fingers and tartare sauce in a bap/barm with some salad leaves. The skinny fries were pretty good too. Everybody seemed happy with what they ordered whether posh burger, wood pigeon or curried cod. I also snaffled a bit of someone’s chocolate soufflé with kirsch soaked cherries and vanilla cream which went down well. I quite liked the industrial style interior with bare brick walls and huge overhead pipes and beaten copper tables. That style been(over)done everywhere but it still looks good to me. Overall a solid place but a bit more than I want to spend perhaps.

Just popped into Superstore for a quick drink with a friend on the way to the evenings Unilocal event. Had a nice Tickety Brew pale ale, priced at £3.70. Alcohol 5.5%. An interesting menu, I’ll definitely go back to try some of the food. Nice drinks, nice surroundings, friendly staff and great service. Only downside is the trendy looking seats aren’t overly comfortable.

Nice ambiance to the place upon arrival. Chairs leave a little somewhat to be desired as unable to out your feet back only facing forward(you will understand when you sit down there). Although a friend and I were only having drinks my flat white was nice and he choose a pale ale from a good variety options. The food smelt good and the ‘Super Lunch’ board(available till 5pm) looked great, I am convinced I will be back to taste… And sooner rather than later!

I had been to Superstore last summer and really enjoyed it. I remembered the food being really good and having a great time, so when looking for somewhere nice to go on Saturday I suggested Superstore. As we walked down Tib St I was concerned that we hadn’t booked a table — but to my surprise it wasn’t busy at all, so we were seated in a little corner and served straight away. The restaurant has an open kitchen, which instantly had my mouth watering — such amazing smells coming from the kitchen. I also like to watch the Chefs work sometimes — so this provided a bit of entertainment for me too! They do 5 small plates for £25 — which I have ordered in the past. I particularly remember the pig cheeks being outstanding from this menu, but this time I decided to order a main meal. I ordered the 9oz Flat Iron Steak which was marinated in ground spices, confit garlic and smoked paprika. The steak was on a bed of dauphinoise potatoes, had tiny brown shrimps on top and was served with tomato chilli and lemon butter. It was FANTASTIC. The steak was so flavoursome and tender — and daupinoise potatoes have always been a favourite of mine. I was very impressed. Tim C. ordered the cumin and rosemary marinated rump of lamb with roast Bombay potatoes, grilled okra and a fresh herb garlic and green chilli dressing. He said it was fab. Nothing from the dessert menu shouted out at me, so i decided not to bother with a dessert. The service was friendly and fast and I will come back here time and time again until I get bored, which won’t be for a while! I have also heard they do a good brekkie!

Had often passed by this place while walking around the northern quarter and thought it looked cool. Bright, spacious and airy café/restaurant with a shop down in the basement. On a chilly autumn day it was certainly a nice retreat from the cold– nice and warm with good music and an open kitchen so you can see everything being prepared. Ordered a series of small plates to share– 5 for £25– which came presented on a long wooden board. I find a lot of menus quite boring these days– the usual salads, burgers etc– but Superstore has quite an innovative menu with more unusual ingredients and flavours. Can highly recommend the coffee rubbed flat iron steak, Panko breaded pig cheeks, duck and sweet potato arancini, crispy squid and jasmine tea soaked chicken wings. All amazing! My dessert was a bit of a let down– the ginger sponge. It came with a Cointreau crème freche which just tasted very sour and completely wrong. Couldn’t eat it. However the pineapple tarte tatin was yummy and devoured in no time.

A Mancunian slice of a Manhattan deli This is the third version of a local grocer at this site and perhaps this is the first one to work. As well as getting your staples if you live in the Northern Quarter, there’s a pretty good deli café, with veggie salads and charcuterie plates, and a changing daily specials board. Coffee is good so that’s worth a try too, but I will need another visit to work out the best thing here. Really liked it, want to know more.

I am in love with this place. Lovely vibe, in the Northern Quarter of Manchester. Hip without being annoying(if you know what I mean). We had the sampler platter to share, which was incredible. I’d recommend it. You get to pick which bits you want from a small-ish menu. The flavours and combinations were fantastic, big fan of the steak and also the duck arancini. Everything was just spot on. The guys who were with me literally forced me up to the counter to tell the chefs how amazing it was. Cocktails were good too, and they have good quality spiced rum(my drink of choice). Staff were super friendly without being invasive, I hear it’s a family business and that makes me love it even more. You must book if you want to eat here on a Friday or Saturday, I’m told it’s totally packed out. However, Sunday evenings are sleepy and chilled and there is tons of free space — a great time to just swing by and get a table.

Magic Ok needed something to eat before an event and my friend is eating clean(no white carbs) so after looking at a few menus we went for here. The menu is full of wounderful sounding dishes. You won’t know where to start. We went for steak and duck and when it came on my, its was lovely. Tiny bown shimp over my steak made the dish a gorwn up surf and turf. I have to go back and eat more of that great manu. The staff were lovely, loos are a little small but you cant have everything.

Ah its such a shame! Situated in the Northern Quarter, this has the potential to be a great place, it looks fabulous and they offer a good breakfast though I have to say bunging on an extra £3 if you want your breakfast with a big mushroom and a tomato(no extra bacon etc) is a bit much, they also had no black pudding but didn’t know about this at the time of ordering and had to come back and tell us a wee while after we had ordered) The service wasn’t the best really — a bit disjointed and not the friendliest staff, my orange juice was plonked down so hard it almost bounced out of the glass! When the food arrived it was lovely although my friend still received a fried egg after she had specified scrambled. The deal was if you bought a breakfast you got your coffee/tea/juice free and when the bill came we had been charged for the drinks(I also saw the same happened to our neighbouring table) full price with drinks was almost £50 for 4 of us which I think is a bit much for a very average brunch especially when the bread was just cheap Warburtons stuff, not a slice of sourdough in sight which is what I definatley expected when I paid £9.50 for my breakfast. Superstore NQ can definatley pull its socks up a bit, that’s for sure. Décor/appearance and food are pretty good — it’s the service that is sorely lacking… Maybe Glasgow has spoiled me for food — but I don’t think so really, the rest of my party weren’t impressed and said they wouldn’t bother going back as there were far better places they could go for brunch.

Not had the chance to visit Superstore until recently when we went for a Sunday brunch. The menu looked appetizing enough, reasonably priced at £5 a small plate(which you can combined to boost up variety) and £10−12 mains. There’s an array of options with decent sides and sandwiches too. Service is good enough, attentive, not invading. If I’m honest, the food was average, my rabbit stew lacked seasoning(a lot) and no one was wowed by their respective dishes. The wine is quite poor I found. We had the Malbec at £22, dead, no structure, no life in it. At this price it’s just not acceptable. Nathan, who works at Hanging Ditch and part time at Superstore suggested the Montepulciano next at £18 which was marginally better. I’m tired of not being able to enjoy a glass of wine when I go out. But here’s hoping one day it will change(if you want to do better, give me a shout, I can probably help). Anyway, OK overall but I won’t rush back.

I’ve been pretty excited to eat at Superstore since before Christmas, yet my first time dining there can be summed up with a resounding ‘meh’. I feel a little mean giving it a 2 star rating but hopefully I will have a better meal there in the future. 5 small plates for £20 seemed like a total steal. Yet when it arrived — all on one wooden board rather than separate plates like I was expecting — it didn’t really seem like such good value. We shared: — Tea Smoked glazed Chicken Wings — Honey & soy Belly Pork, glass noodles — Hand-made Black Pudding, fried egg, turmeric Aioli, toasted corn bread, cayenne pepper — Curried Chicken Arancini, mint raita — Ginger Beer Battered Prawns, sweet chilli sauce Looking back, the best dishes stand out as the chicken wings and the arancini. The worst was, oddly, the black pudding & fried egg dish. I’m a black pudding fanatic and I love a fried egg on anything, but somehow the flavours were all wrong. The black pudding itself had an odd texture — maybe instead of hand-making it they should be getting it from a good local supplier? Service was friendly and efficient although all the tables were rammed so close together that staff had to push past every so often. The Superstore lager was a decent, fairly cheap pint and while the puddings looked good we chose not to risk disappointment for £6 and wandered round to Simple Bar & Kitchen for a boozy milkshake instead.

We dined here as part of an impromptu meet up with friends. Looking for something informal and easy on the pocket, this place seemed to offer both. The concept is pretty unique, with a ‘store’ donwstairs and an ‘open kitchen’ /New York bar style diner above. Dining wise, Superstore is pretty laid back; the spascious high ceiling warehouse style building, low hanging lights and rustic décor certainly hits the visual wow factor mark when you first enter. So, all good up to this point, but food wise, it was all a little disappointing unfortunately as I expected great things. My partner and I had squid to start, and this was probably the best part of the meal. The dish came with a dusting of chilli and a mustard dip. For my main meal I had the burger and fat chips, and this is where the meal went downhill as my burger was overcooked — literally charred and the chips had the taste and texture of being left to keep warm after cooking. My partner had the pulled pork thai green curry off the specials board and that lacked any real flavour. The sauce was also very watery. Our friends had soup(which was actually very good) and fish and chips. Again the fish and chips didn’t hit the mark. Hardly any batter on the fish, more like a dusting of breadcrumbs really. Perhaps we just went on a bad day as I know most people had a positive experience here. Just a shame it didn’t happen for us and the food didn’t match the wow factor of the look and feel of the place.

The first main point to know is that Superstore Grocer is more than the name would suggest. Downstairs is a grocers, with a strong selection of good and craft beers, whilst upstairs you’ll find a fantastic restaurant. Although i’m quite familiar with the Northern Quarter, Superstore NQ just hadnt been on my radar. When looking for a bite to eat on a Monday evening after work, my husband suggested we tried it. A quick 5 — 10 mins walk from either of the main train stations and only 2 mins from piccadilly gardens and the main tram stops, Superstore NQ is in a good location. The restaurant space is wonderful. High ceilings, steel lintels exposed bricks and low lighting. Along the back wall is a long bar and down the far side an open kitchen. The space is spacious and airy, yet intimate and warm. Quite an achievement. The staff are warm, welcoming and happy to talk you through the menu and make recommendations. The specials board caught our eye and we decided to share a surf and turf style platter. Fillet steak cooked to our liking, tempura king prawns and scallops served on a wooden board with a dressed salad, tomato and chorizo side and 2 dips, one chicken gravy(i think) and a salsa verde… all cooked to perfection.(we also ordered a side of chips, which i can only assume were cooked twice creating the fluffy potato on the inside complimented by the crisp and perfectly salted outside). We were delighted with our choice and only £26 for a platter for two we were impressed with the price too. Nice atmosphere, Beautiful food and great wine. What more could we ask for. I would highly recommend to anyone that they visit superstore NQ as i’m sure the menu and setting would suit one and all.

Perhaps I’m just in a generous mood, but my experience at SuperStore was worth 5 stars. A colleague and I were looking for somewhere laid back and not-too-loud for a catch up last Tuesday and, ever looking for somewhere new to explore, I suggested we popped along to SuperStore. It was fairly empty, with only one or two other tables, which probably did improve the service we had — what else were they supposed to do? Nonetheless, the atmosphere was just what we were looking for. We sat near to the open-kitchen, meaning we had a good peek at what the chefs were up to(cooking, mainly.) Although the small plates have received rave reviews, that lamb burger was something I couldn’t wait to get my chops around — especially with the promise of a bhaji on top! The meat was moist but held its own, and the bhaji was simply delicious, the whole meal packing plenty of spice. Cooled down with the raita, it was a really great alternative to your standard burger offering. We shared a portion of the chunky chips, which were really quite amazing. It is a pain that you have to order these things on the side, but it gave us an option, and it was a portion worth the money. We were checked up on throughout the meal and I had no qualms with paying the money at the end. Can’t wait to go back!

Found this by chance and was looking for a pretty cool place to go for breakfast with a mate for a good old saturday morning catch up, it looks like a place you would find in NYC and its very trendy and a cool place to be, The décor is the same as many other Northern Quarter Bars and restaurants but its fun and not overcrowded, There is a nice looking breakfast menu with loads to choose from, i just had a coffee but my friend had the full breakfast which looked really yummy, its all cooked fresh and you see them making it in the open style kitchen, the whole place is open plan and it looks like they do dinner and theres a few beers on tap so might have to give it a try in the evening too! it has a fun chilled out crowd and had a nice atmosphere to the place, so if you’re looking for a pretty chilled out cool place to go this is the place for you!

What do you get if you take an old corner shop, totally gut it, move the shop downstairs fully and make it into a NYC style open plan kitchen, lounge and dining room serving great food and drinks — phew… Well the answer is Superstore! I decided to meet my wife for lunch at Superstore the other day and after reading lots of great Unilocaler reviews, see what the all the fuss was about it. It’s safe to say we made a great choice in terms of where to fill up on fodder — with the super tasty lamb burger, with Indian spices, and onion bhaji inside a brioche roll really hitting the spot. My wife’s chicken and prawn biryiani was absolutely fantastic too, really fresh and served in a giant poppadom. The staff were friendly, with us doing Dryathlon they didn’t mind us sticking to water and brought us a big bottle of tap for the table — plus from what I saw of the bar, there are enough craft beers to keep me happy once Feb 1st come’s around. The menu looks exciting and eclectic — breakfast looking especially tempting in the coming weeks and although a lot of the specials had run out, it was great to see added variety this way. It was £22 with a tip for these 2 dishes which isn’t a cheap option for lunch with no drinks and on top of this the only thing letting them down was the fact that I had to pay a further £3 for my fries to go with my burger — that really was the only part of the experience that made us feel a bit like it was cheeky on their part. I’m sorry but burgers go with fries automatically — that’s just the way it should be, especially at these prices. Overall looking forward to going back and it’s nice to see a bit of variety in venues and new ideas popping up in the NQ again.

Having heard several people on my(foodie heavy) twitter feed talking about Superstore I wanted to try it out ASAP to see what the fuss was all about and I’m glad I did. It’s very NQ’ in style with lots of exposed brick etc but with a cosier feel than other bars in the area. As soon as I walked in I was greeted with a warm welcome and told I could sit wherever I wanted, with the offer of a highchair for the babs. In fact throughout our lunch the staff were friendly and attentive without being overly intrusive. The menu comprises of ‘small plates’, sandwiches, burgers and mains(as well as breakfast, sides, desserts etc) and there is also a small number of specials too. The husband opted for the rather epic looking lamb burger whilst I chose the pulled chicken biryani served in a poppadum bowl. The biryani was really good and it was interesting to have the chicken ‘pulled’ instead of the usual chunks you might get. It was garnished with a grilled prawn which looked nice but had been overcooked and tbh I’m not really sure the point of it as it didn’t really add anything to the dish. Portions are pretty decent so unfortunately I was too full to try any of the desserts which all sounded amazing but that’s just a good excuse to return, yes?!

I’d had this place recommended to me by a friend and we were in desperate need of a fry up after a particularly heavy night out the day before. It was quiet on the Sunday morning we went in and we had a choice of tables. It reminds me a little of Caravan in London, which I love, in terms of the interior. The seats are a little industrial for my liking, I want a really comfy chair if I’m honest but the table we had was fine. The menu is enticing with lots of things we wanted but as I mentioned only a fry up was going to hit the spot. I had the smaller breakfast and the Mr(as usual) has the larger option. I’d actually rung this place the weekend before to try and book a table for one evening but had some major communication problems with one of the staff on the phone that actually meant we didn’t risk it and went somewhere else(I wasn’t sure I’d even got through to the right place or she understood what I wanted). I think the same lady served us and we had problems again. Just some issues with her not understanding what we wanted and random things turning up. That aside — this was a fantastic breakfast. Just typing about it is making me want to go back there. It was perfect. We polished it off and were very happy. Another small issue was the tea I ordered afterwards. Their tea strainers didn’t close properly and I couldn’t drink the tea as it was so full of tea leaves. As the rating says — yay I’m a fan! In terms of food we’ll be heading back there asap for more of this. It’s breakfast heaven!
