I tried this place as part of my ongoing search for good falafel options in Manchester. I like the friendly ambience in here. Also, the naan bread is first class. For bread, from the same dough, they offer both a ‘sandwich’ baked in a normal oven(which is good for takeaway) or else naan from the tandoor and also freshly baked pizza. It is really cheap here. I am vegetarian, so I only focused on the falafel — I think it was 2.00GBP for a falafel sandwich or 2.50GBP for falafel, two naan and a small mezze plate which I think undercuts anywhere on Rusholme and that is really saying something! So, maybe even best naan in the city and up there with my other favourite naan which is Hadramout.(Although I prefer tandoor chapati if I can get it!) Mezze is OK — not a huge choice, but some good basic mezze such as hummus, salads and a mint-yoghurt dressing. The falafel here are OK — really light and crispy, although I would prefer something a bit more substantial and with more parsley, like the falafel at Atlas Shawarma. All round, even though this place has a strong emphasis on kebabs, it is still worth a look for vegetarians for the falafel and pizza options. Also, a cool thing happened, and not for the first time in an Arab place — I had been chatting with a guy and his wife, and when they got up to leave the guy noticed I didn’t have a drink, so he offered to buy me one!(I asked, and Today is a Kurdish-run place. So, like Pasha, or Kurdistan Restaurant which is also on Grandale Street.) Lastly, nearby Marmara Grill let you bring in fresh bread, which they don’t provide themselves. So today I brought in two hot naan from Today, to team up with the more varied vegetarian mezze at Marmara — best of both world! I think I like Today naan better than Atlas — Atlas naan is a bit too elastic for me, but Atlas falafel is really good! Today do four naan for a pound, and like I said three times before, they are good naan bread! Good luck to the friendly Today team!
