I’ve walked the bottom section of this numerous times with Duke of Edinburgh candidates. The Mugdock Park area is lovely and well maintained, but don’t expect a 3G signal for most of it! Dog walkers are in general responsible and tidy and cyclists are pretty good as well. In fact, it seems to be an area that brings out the nicest in people. Wear decent walking shoes, though, as it can get a little muddy after rainfall.

I’ve never actually WALKED the WHW but I do love visiting many places along the way! The scenery is some of the best Scotland has to offer and is well worth the long windy drive/hike to experience it! My particular favourite spot is Glencoe(along with Rowardennan which you can read about on my Loch Lomond review on Unilocal) with stunning mountains and interesting(!) weather and lots of lovely places to eat too(I love the Clachaig Inn and Crafts & Things!) :) Will add photos later but there are LOADS in and around Glencoe on my photo website(link in profile).

The West Highland Way is a long morning stroll, but I surely recommend it. It is likely to take you a few days, to get all the way along but it is really a challenge and an achievement if you persevere. I was unfortunate enough to have went in rainy season, I know it is hard to miss, but try if you can because it really is a whole lot of beautiful scenery which you will love if you appreciate Scotland. It is surprisingly easy to get on to also, as you can start in Glasgow? I have only recently found this out! What a revalation!

I have attempted the West Highland Way on many occasions. I never get more than day’s walk away from Glasgow, because I am just not fit enough. The first few hours are delightful, and I walk along, singing and sighing at the beauty. After lunch, I slow down, claim that I am taking my time, enjoying the scenes(which I am!), but loosing energy. By teatime, I am looking for a main road so I can hitch a ride home. Pitiful. However, it does remind me that I am living very close to some of the most beautiful countryside in the world, and there are often other travellers alongside me, who are far more capable, and have proper shoes for the hike. It’s a good way to start walking in the outdoors– an easy enough path and spectacular view.

Fancy a little walk from milgavie just outside Glasgow to Fort William? Yeah? Why, are you crazy? You kknow we have other forms of transport now don’t you? Cars, trains, buses? No? Ok well if you really want to walk over 95 miles of breath taking Scottish countryside from the central belt to the gateway of the Scottish highlands then this is the walk for you. A world renowned walkway, the west highland way is visited by thousands of walkers each year, from those walking on behalf of charity or those who just fancy chalking it off the list, this is truly a gem of an attraction within these lovely shores. Not being one for walking, i would also suggest that this route can be cycled at most points and if you don’t mind slinging the bike over your shoulder then it maybe worth a go. There can be no other more stunning way to see the real country side of Scotland, maybe except by bus.
