Local fishmongers who have been around for at least as long as I have. When other places have closed down, and the fish van no longer calls into our street, my family now go to Clark Bros to pick up fresh fish. John Dory, salmon, rainbow and sea trout, clams, fresh mussels, queen scallops, samphire, live razor shells, own-smoked salmon… yup, the list does go on. My parents partake in the smoked haddock on a regular basis(non-coloured/treated), while today I picked up some of the rollmops. It’s OK, I’m single, and I am alright with fish-breath. Yes, these were pretty tasty, meaty rollmops too.

Having consistently seen this place recommended in cookbooks over the years, I was please to have it within(a moderate) walking distance from my house in Portobello. They stock a wide range of fish, fresh from the boats in the harbour and supply a considerable number of restaurants due to their high quality. Staff are knowledgeable and always happy to prepare fish for you if required. A very wide range is available if you are early or head there in an afternoon to take what’s left and negotiate a good deal before the local Chinese restaurant buys the remainder. Lots of hard to get items can be found too such as samphire and live razor shells
