What can I say, I used to go regularly to Craig House as a kid for family birthdays, meals out, and maybe it’s that my tastes have seriously changed over the years, or that as it has changed hands, quality has just descended further and further into the gruond, but Craig House really isn’t worth eating at. After a failed attempt to go climbing, we decided to take the easy route and pop in to grab a few snacks rather than go to the effort of reheating some(homemade) soup. We ordered a bunch of starters — prawn cocktail, cajun prawns and a set of sides(garlic and herb mushrooms, chips, onion rings and garlic bread). I know, totally healthy, but you know, whatever. Anyway, We thought the cajun prawns would be in a sort of spicy rub — didn’t expect them to be deep fried in a thick rather flavourless batter. The mushrooms could have been used as cannon shot, the deep fried coating on them was hard as a brick. Onion rings batter was a bit soggy and flavourless. Garlic bread suspected to be deep fried as well. Prawn cocktail — frozen, watery tasteless prawns. Overall summary — deep fried, oily tastelessness. It’s a Brewers Fayre now. With or without ye olde Y, not worth spending your money there on a meal. We went there out of laziness, and regretted the effort it took to go there. Sad really, as it has soured my memories — did I really used to like going there? Why?
