I do lurve a goood Burger and, ever since I set foot in Musselburgh during the summer of 2012 The Mercat(formerly known as The Dolphin Inn) has consistantly made THE best Burgers I’ve ever eaten, The Mercat(winner of multiple awards) is run by Graham Blaikie and team, the food, atmosphere & service here is beyond compare. You’re treated like Royalty whether you’re eating a full meal, or, just having a pint, or wee dram. Everything on the menu is sourced locally from East Lothian. The marmalade in the Haggis Cigars(see pic) is made with Glenkinchie Single Malt. The Burgers are made to order and while this may add a bit of time to your visit at The Mercat, it’s more than worth the wait. The desserts are home made, and should you visit The Mercat and you have some space left in your tum, then I’d humbly suggest you go for it. The Mercat have there own Whisky menu and a selection that rivals some of the best bars in town. At least one Guest/Cask Ale is always on tap, but, mostly it’s two. This is in addition to the regular Ales & Lagers. This is my true favorite of favorites, and a real bonus as its only just down the road from me. Whilst it may be a tad out of the way for some, your patronage will be more than rewarded, and, for large groups they have a mini bus and would be only too happy to pick you all up from a local pick up point. The Mercat is served by two(very) close bus stops. 10⁄10 — 5 Stars — Highly recommended.

My parents like a visit here, and my sister too, however she was far more disappointed than I when we visited over the summer. The toastie that she raved, was rather healthily doused in butter before toasting — something that she loathes. My baked potato, was, in fact a baked potato with nothing spectacular to report. I don’t think our ladies wot lunch routine will include this in the future though after Toastiegate.
