The food was amazing. We had the shared platter of meat with chicken and lamb skewers with nan bread as a starter. Make sure to taste the different rice dishes, they are delicious!

Great place, stews are lush chicken melts in your mouth. The venue it’s self is nothing special but ok, but the food is real home cooked Persian style yummy grub! I always have the mixed sharing starter you get a lot to share for two people could easily share for four people. The man breads are wicked also and go well with the starters, you get takeaway or sit in both prices the same. I like this place a lot and would go back again x

I was so, so impressed with a taste of Persia… and I would never have thought to try Persian food without Unilocal guiding me here, so thank you Newcastle Unilocalers! We tried: — Humus(sooo creamy and gorgeous) — Mirza ghasemi, which was a dip with aubergine, garlic and tomato — Dolmeh(stuffed vine leaves) — and some olives and Nan bread For mains we shared: — Three skewers, chicken, lamb and«koobideh» which was minced lamb. All the meat was juicy and delicious! — Stew of lamb, spinach and prunes — The lamb was really tender and went well with the stew. — Stew of chicken, crushed walnuts and pomegranate — this was sweet, and a new flavour for me, but really tasty. The deserts were all amazing too… although I can’t remember which three we tried! The night we ate here was Persian new year, so the staff had all their party food and drinks laid out ready for their celebration after the customers went home. I hope they had a good party as they really deserve it!

My fiancé and I recently gave this close-to-home restaurant a try, and our visit made us feel lucky to have it a short walk away! It’s very quiet inside — I think they had a bigger crowd upstairs(though we weren’t escorted up, for some reason), but the downstairs was far more empty. A bit weird on a Friday night, but that’s okay. We started with the Sini Mazeh for two, which was hummus, a grilled aubergine spread with tomatoes and onions, grape leaves, olives, and a big piece of naan bread. Everything was lovely — the hummus especially being some of the best we’ve had. We demolished it and the aubergine spread — and we didn’t even think we liked aubergine! We like it in this form, apparently, it’s called Mirza Ghasemi and you must try it. £7.50 for a very filling appetizer plate for two people. Moving on, we shared the Gheymeh Bademjan which is a lamb stew with split peas, and the Makhsoos for 1 which is one skewer of lamb, one skewer of chicken and one skewer of koobideh(minced lamb with spices and onions) with grilled tomatoes. Wowza! We came as close as we could to finishing it, but with prices that low we didn’t feel bad about not quite making it(£9.50 for the mixed grill and £6.50 for the stew!) Though we both enjoyed the stew, the glorious grilled meats made an even bigger impression. All of them were great, but the lamb skewer in particular had terrific flavor. Oh — we also had a side of Zereshk Polow which is rice with barberries, almonds, and pistachios, and a side of saffron rice. Both rices disappointed me a little bit, as I expected far more flavor than I got. Even the one with all the little bits added in, there were only a few of them and it mostly tasted like plain rice(which I think I’d get next time). Mainly though, we had a great meal for a very low price, and enjoyed the unique offerings. I know we will come back often — it would be a great place to get takeaway too!

What a great find! With the prices I expected this to basically be a glorified kebab joint with a few seats, but it was a proper restaurant with real linen tablecloths(I’m living the high life!) and some nice Persian-esque light fittings. I don’t actually care too much about this as taste is the most important thing to me, but it was nice nevertheless! The menu was quite varied and had the usual grilled meats, but I wanted to try something uniquely Persian — and this place seems to be very authentic in this regard. I love eggplant/aubergine so started with mirza ghasemi(I kept my receipt so I remembered) on the waitress’s recommendation. It was deliciously smokey and was a great starter. I also got a nan which looked huge but was thin enough for me to manage. For the main I had the fesenjan, which had a sweet-ish but complex pomegranate and walnut sauce. The waitress recommended that I have this with plain rice which I got — I was quite happy that she didn’t try to up-sell me to one of the other rice dishes like lots of other restaurants try to. Service was fast and very friendly — they will be more than happy to give you recommendations if you ask, and will not rush you or leave you sitting there for hours waiting for the bill… As others have said, it’s very good value for money. I noticed that the owner sat down and ate his own dinner from the kitchen — so if they’re eating their own food it has to be authentic!

Thanks to good old Unilocal I did not have to worry or fret about where to eat whilst visiting the lovely Newcastle Upon Tyne. Thank you fellow Unilocalers! You rock. I probably would have actually passed this place by had I not had the Unilocal-knowledge I now have(Muhahaha!) as it does not look particularly ‘stunning’ from the outside and it’s situated in a part of town surrounded by lots of kebab shops and other such take-away joints, but i TRUSTED the Unilocalers not to do me wrong so in we went… Must admit we got a wee shock upon entering — it’s rather teeny downstairs and we did not realise there WAS an upstairs *gulp* Wishing we’d booked a table now we approached the waitress; ‘Table for 2? Have you booked?’ ‘No…’ ‘No problem, follow me’ and upstairs we went, cue huge sigh of relief(I didn’t have a safe back-up plan had they been fully booked) We were seated and given menus. Having never eaten Persian food before I didn’t know quite what to expect, but again I trusted the good Unilocalers! For starters we chose the Dolmeh(stuffed vine leaves) to share and for main I opted for the Joojeh, which is chargrilled & marinated chicken breast chunks, with rice and a nan bread. The Boy chose the Fesenjan — a chicken breast stew with a pomegranate & walnut sauce and rice also. Service was swift but not rushed and the Dolmeh were delicious. The main courses we had were both very very tasty ~ my chicken was melt-in-the-mouth and the Boy’s stew was so tasty. The rice & nan were both also very good and the surroundings were pleasant indeed. Staff were friendly and efficient and it was very reasonably priced. All in all we had a great meal. Deffo be back if I’m in the Newcastle again. Just wish they had this restaurant in Glasgow.

This place was really amazing. We visited on the spur of the moment, not sure what to expect. We found some great food. Chicken was great, lamb was great, naan was perfect, smokey tomato dip was out of this world. The service was very friendly, very helpful. Coming back!

Oh yes. Delicious, reasonably priced, conveniently located near the station, friendly service. Everything was delicious, but the best thing was the chicken joojeh, which was as moist and tender as it is possible to be, but also really flavourful. The hot nan bread with smokey tomato and aubergine dip was also a favourite. Totally worth the insomnia caused by overeating. I’m definitely coming back here.

I was stuck at the holiday inn express hotel and looking for somewhere quick, cheap and close by for dinner. First this place is just across the rd from the hotel. Second it’s really reasonably priced(around £7.00 for a main) and they will also do takeaway for you. More importantly the food is delicious! Make sure you start with the hummus and nan bread which is seriously the best I’ve ever had and at £1.50 well worth it. I also had a lamb stew which was really good, nice tender lamb and sweet Persian flavours. I’ll definately be back next time I’m in Newcastle. Oh and they even kindly gave me a free sweet cup of tea whilst I waited for my takeaway(and they were extremely quick)!

Maybe it has been my lack of previous exposure to Persian food, but this food really blew my mind. They have a variety of dishes and my favorite is definitely the minced lamb kabob. They also have a variety platter for two that I would suggest if you want to get a taste of it all. The platters come with some delicious rice(even more delicious if you add a pat of butter) and roasted tomatoes which add a juicy flair to the dishes. I’m not even a fan of lamb, and usually find it too chewy for my tastes, but I will eat this lamb until I have to undo the button on my pants(don’t tell me you don’t know what I’m talking about). All of the appetizers I’ve eaten have been worth ordering again — babaganoush, hummus, and a tomato eggplant dip — eaten with nan. The dessert here is not the highlight, but if you ever want to try something out of your comfort zone you can go for the faloodeh, a dish of rice noodles and rosewater sorbet, which in my humble opinion tastes a lot like eating an air freshener(but somehow never goes uneaten). The baklava was small and not memorable. I think the service you get is probably in line with the culture; they bring you your food and make sure you like it, but they allow you to sit for as long as you like before bringing you the check, which typically means you’re waiting a really long time. Also, if you have a group I would highly suggest calling ahead to book the top room. It is a fully decorated room with persian rugs, and floor pillows for seating, and everyone can share a bit of everything with everyone. This is one restaurant I will go back to every time I’m in Newcastle.
